Half Moon cookies

Yes. Being an old Central New Yorker, which is where the Half Moon cookie was invented, I've found that the ones offered in Florida, where they are called Black and Whites, completely unacceptable. So, a while back, I set out to create an authentic Half Moon cookie.

They are good. The Half Moon was first invented in the '20s, by Hemstraught's Bakery, in Utica, N.Y. I've never had one of theirs, but the best ones I've ever had are from Harrison's Bakery, in Syracuse, N.Y. They are a big Central N.Y. Tradition. Whenever I get back to CNY, I always make it a priority to get to Harrison's. But I am so fond of them, I had to find a way to make a reasonable facsimile here in Florida.

hehehe loved the video hun!! Definitely more of a mousse than pudding! Loved the tail waggin when the music started!! ........... the dog's not yours...........well.......ok..... yurs too!! ;)

The corn starch baffled me til I realized your blender heated it up. A cornstarch slurry has to come to boiling before the thickening kicks in.....but maybe heated then sitting overnight does it too. Sounds yummy.......but wowsers that's a lotta heavy cream. Did you just use chocolate chips? Couldn't tell for sure.

One last thing....... Emeril Lagasse

LOL :D I wondered if anyone would notice Boomers tail wagging :)

Ya, the blender heats it up to a pretty high temp. I used regular chocolate chips but I want to branch out with other chocolates and candy bars.

Jup.......never been to NYC, but have seen em on food network, but even they called em black and whites, and it was somewhere up north. I think NYC, but not certain. Your recipe will suffice if you're so inclined......no pressure heheheh

The biggest difference between authentic Half Moons and Black and Whites, which NYC lays claim to, is the icing. Authentics should have butter cream frosting. Black and Whites have fondant icing.
