If i'm making Claptons and that's mostly what i use in everything now, then i wrap the coils on a drill bit or screwdriver, but i hold one end of the wire in a vice on my desk.
It makes it a lot easier to stretch the coil to get it to lie neatly on the drill bit. That might not matter so much with a single coil - but with dual coil builds, you want the coils to be as identical as possible, else they heat at different speeds.

Like Rule, i'm not into making coils for fun. i wait until i have 2 or 3 atties that need rebuilds then sit down and build the lot, and some tanks heads for anyone at work that asks! After all, i have the gear.
My coils are only wicked with RxW and i now don't get less than about 3 months out of them. It's a very cheap and lazy way to vape and best of all i get the clouds i want and the flavour too in a low-maintenance deal!

I'm exclusively using RxW and most of my coils see at least 6mos of service before being changed out from boredom. I have one of my grands that was coiled mid November and still is going strong... I have noticed a difference since switching to 0mg liquid 8-10 months ago. When I vaped nic I had to dry burn every 2-3 days and now I dry burn once a week usually whether it needs it or not.

That's the big thing with me too, getting both coils firing exactly the same. Just about everything I've run, even back to my later ss mesh genisis days, have been dual coils. The only exception recently has been with the Stumpy. I didn't like duals in it as well as a single z coil between the posts. I'm awaiting a Maker, which should be here tomorrow or Monday. It's somewhat like the Stumpy, except it's 'top air' like the Manta. I expect I'll build it similar to the Stumpy, with a single 2.5mm dia. 24g Z coil.

The old A7 that a lot of us used before Rob modded the Triangle to become the RM2, was a similar z-coiled affair and i still have a few of those.

I'm a cloud chaser, so airflow is not an issue to me - i use Dark Horse or Velocity atties all the time. Airflow can be an issue with that z-coil arrangement and that was true of some of those atties. Some judicious hole drilling!

i cannot dual coil one fused clapton build i have on a mech, because it would be 0.15Ω. And ugly as i am, a little mechanical sympathy and battery safety is best.

i never got a Derringer or a Stumpy, because the builds i tend to go for these days will make them run really unpleasantly hot. Not seen the maker, going to Google it after dinner!

I have a couple A7s around here that I converted to top airflow and stabilized the center pins on. I even carry one as a backup in case I blow a coil.

Howdy all!

I do the same thing, wrap up nice coils for all the reos, then use and clean them for months until they finally fail, then repeat the process. I haven't used my reos all that much lately, so the coils have lasted for months. I bought me and the wife RX200 TC mods and got a couple tanks. I've been enjoying my tank and VW setup for months now. The vapor and flavor at 70W is perfect for me and all I do is refill the tank once it's run dry. I'm getting about a month or month and a half out of the premade coils.
I succumbed to temptation today and got an RX200 (the white and seam foam color - then had a friend put blue carbon fiber vinyl wraps over the sea foam color - I'm a Penn State girl!)(I'll post a pic tomorrow) and Griffin RTA. I put the Hobo v3 clone on my white Reo Grand and am not so impressed with the vape. I've got dual 24g A1 on it (about a .3 I think). It's just not that good - not like my derringer with the single 316L at 0.4. I'm either going to rewrap the hobo or just throw the derringer back on it. Haven't decided yet. I have so many mods, but only minor buyers remorse from all of them. I think I have 7 or 8 regulated devices (ranging from 40w to 250w devices), 3 tube mechs, a parallel box, and of course my 2 Reo Grands. We don't talk about all the tanks, drippers, RTAs, and RDAs I have...and don't even think about mentioning all the juice outside of my DIY. I basically have a tackle box full of vape hardware and another of DIY stuff. I'm almost ashamed of my collection. lol. I rarely vape over 100w, but I actually got the RX for the battery life. I think I always carry 3 batteries for my Reo (which is always with me), and at least 3 matches sets of batteries (for one of my regulated that's always with me) plus an unmatched set for the tube mod that's always with me. I said today at the B&M that I have backups for my backups backups backups. I really should sell some of it, but I always end up with that thought of, "what if the vapeocalypse actually happens? Then what would I do without my Vapes?!"
Is there a Vapors' Anonymous group?

My usual build is dual 2mm diameter 26g kanthal coils. Wicked with either KGD cotton or Cotton Bacon. About .4 to .45 ohms.

That the same build I'm using in my Manta. I think my current one is at .42 Ohms The only difference is my legs are even shorter. My coils are real close to the posts. Love the Manta flavor. Is yours a V1 or V2 cap? Mine is V2, I'm not really sure what the difference is though.

I have several Manta2s. I really like them. I have one V1, which I didn't like at all. The main difference is in the cap. The air inlet to the coils on the V1 is a single hole on each side, inside the cap; where the inlets are slots on the V2. It makes the airflow too restrictive on the V1, plus it's noisy. The decks are different too, although the early V2 used the same deck as the V1. The older decks are flat. the later decks have a shelf, and a different positive post and insulator.

Picked up some new batteries at the B&M today. I couldn't pass up a spring sale and no shipping. lol. I'm not quite ready to retire my AWs, but I'll at least have some back ups for when I am ready to move on. lol. Wonder if my flashlight will take the button tops... lol

I know the feeling. I don't tend to list all my mods and toppers because it's kinda embarassing to have such an excess. Yet, like you, I worry about vapocalypse. I've also got about 20 yeas of nic stashed.

A piece of carto condom wrapped around the post to leave it bottom breather just be sure to leave a gap for the air to flow I drilled the top cap for to air hole and did a complete condon wrap around the center post

I need to stash some nic. Unfortunately I don't have any place at home to stash any. I think I figured out that a liter will last me 9 years or something to that length. Probably about 4 liters will last me until the nursing home. LOL

i just bought HRH a chest freezer about 2 weeks ago, partly to store meat - so i can buy it when it's on sale and partly so i can stash her nic. I stopped using nicotine last August, but she's quite happy as she is.
Until now i have just been keeping it in a dark. cool wardrobe, because i had nowhere else to keep it and to be honest, any research on ageing nicotine has found it maybe degrades by 1 or 2% after 2 years, which is not enough to make much difference to anybody. In other words, it does not magically turn to water after the use by date cinderella-style!

i used to put an o-ring around the A7 centre pin and you want that thing screwed up as far as it will go and still make contact.

The issue with them was the pin wobbling enough to make contact with the outside threads of the 510.

T
Ya the way I adapted them they were near bullet proof and actually pretty nice. I just prefer working inside the rm2. I have several others but the rm2 with the ease and the threaded cap is the cats .... IMO.

At one time i had, i think, 14 RM2's. They are imo unbeatable as a single coil flavour atty.

But that's just not where i am anymore. I've become greedy and demanding and i back it up with the builds i vape because they last for months with no interference and that was always what i was chasing; the flavour AND the clouds with hardly any effort and minimal downtime.

Which is why mech mods and Reos easily outnumber anything else i own.

I must be the only Reonaut that's never owned an RM2...LOL. I guess it's because I was pretty much a confirmed dual coil builder, before getting into REOs. I do have a couple RM4s, set up with duals. They're definitely 'old school', compared to newer attys. But still a very nice vape.
