thank-you

good luck with the CC
Yeah thanks...it's so weird. I had 1k+ charges that were bogus, so they shut the card down and sent me a new one (new number and everything). 3 days later the new card had 131 bogus charges. Shut down again, new card on the way, Sloth wondering where it ends :?:

He is a radiator baby. His bed is right up against a radiator. It's hilarious :D

We had radiators when I was a kid...loved coming in the house in the after playing all day in the snow and hunkering up to them! I'd have them now if i had my own house.

That happened to me a little over a year ago, I finally figured out it was from malware on my old computer. I ended up getting a new computer, and all the problems stopped. I am not sure if that helps or not, but might check into a Malwarebites program. :)

That is frightening. Because I don't have my own PC. I use my work computer or my phone exclusively, and any charges I have made have been through the work PC. I checked all my other accounts, including all our employees work CCs tonight and no foul play. But I am frightened.

I called my company again tonight and the lady told me the charges were actually made using my old card, but delayed. So they hit my account even though I have a new CC #. I hope this is true, though it seems weird. Tomorrow I will thoroughly scan the work computer for viruses and malware.

Wow! Sounds like someone out there has more of your personal info than just credit card and bank info.
I could be wrong, but it sounds like identity theft.

Radiators rock. The benefits of living at a 100+ year old resort.

It scared the heck out of me when it happened also, I had the same card for years, then was given 3 new cards in 4 months. I originally thought it was one of the sites I was buying from. I stopped online buying for a month, and a week after I started ordering again, the card was replaced again. The next week I ordered a new computer. :|

Is there a specific malware program you recommend? This is terrifying me.
If our work computer has an issue, it has much bigger ramifications than my own CC.

i also use Malwarebytes on my work laptop once a week. i typically just delete anything it says is suspicious, cos it's work right?

There's a decent antivirus program at work but i'll force that to scan my machine too: all of this also depends on what internet access your work allows you and on what. By which i mean if you run a dumb screen connected to a main server, then you are at the mercy of the system administrator typically. But if you run a PC at work with its own hard disk and can download to that, then you need to do as i do and scan that baby yourself.

You might also consider using a prepaid credit card for internet purchases because although you pay up front, you are limited (and so is everyone else) to the cash on the card, rather than the full amount of your account, with a bank card, or potentially your credit limit with a credit card.

Most banks do them and i like to think of them as a low risk safety valve for cc fraud, because i typically load mine with cash for a specific purpose and then spend it!

T

This in now way constitutes financial advice and the value of bank accounts can go down as well as up.

I have used prepaid cards for online purchases for years. Put my spending budget on it and that's all there is. I did get hacked once, but I did get the money back. Took a few weeks, but fortunately it did not affect my ability to pay bills or buy food and such.

Even my PayPal account is not linked to a bank. I deposit cash in my account and that's all there is..
