Perez-uzza to this day
First impressions - I hooked up one of the batteries to a menthol carto and tried to take a slow drag compared to an analog which lasted for about 5 seconds until the manual battery cut off. That's getting annoying and I was hoping the batteries had the longer cut off time that I had read about the newer ones having. Anyway I've tried everything except the grape so far and the RY4 and cappuccino taste kind of similar, neither of which I'm too happy with.

Vapor - All of these are based on my idea of a slow drag until the battery cuts off. The menthol seems to give about = 1 second drag on an analog. The RY4 and cappuccino seem to be between 1/2 and 3/4 of the menthol. The menthol also seems to be the only one that has an visible vapor when exhaled where as the other 2 show nothing like I ghosted the hit.

Cartos - 4 notches around the metal ring that meets the battery. I think those are supposed to match up with the holes in the battery threaded connector but 4 notches and 3 holes... only one matches.

Flavor - I read Uzzaperez's thread on e-liquids and see he ranked Dekang at the bottom. I'm assuming that most people seem to think Dekang is not the greatest either so maybe I should reserve some final judgement until I get some better quality juices. ....All of them seem to have a slight burnt after taste, or maybe a hint of some spice, I can't really figure it out yet but it's not pleasant at all.

Throat hit - It doesn't seem as full as an analog yet it hits with more intensity, it's the best way I can describe it. It almost feels like inhaling pixi stick candy in terms of the way it feels when it hits my throat... not sure if that makes any sense.

Edit, it reminds me more like smoking a hooka with a really harsh flavor.

Is a good ecig set up with good juice supposed to be similar to the way inhaling smoke from a hooka feels and tastes with a good flavor in the hooka?

That sucks that you go the 5 second cut offs. To get around it try either stopping the draw (or button push on a manual) just before the cut off and then press it back in again to get another 5. I agree that the KR requires a longer drag *ON THE STANDARD BATTERIES* than a 510. Different story on the high voltage. You really need to get a pass thru or a high voltage mod next! A good way to do that would be to get a Prodigy with a 510 connection (puresmoker), and then a 510 to KR adapter (cheap at Healthcabin, which is where I buy bulk blank cartos, but shipping would be expensive for just one item so try and find one elsewhere), then your high volt set up will do you right no matter which way you go and you can try a 510 for only the $10 or so needed to buy a 510 atty. A pass-thru is cheaper than a Prodigy, but then you are tethered to a power source.

Based on your posts I would say you are in the group of people like me that are just going to want higher voltage eventually. 5 volts with better juice is the hooka of vaping you are looking for.

If you are having little to no vapor on the carto it probably wasn't filled correctly. Pop and drip it full. The slight burn taste also suggest that the cartos aren't very wet, and that can also make a vape harsh - though the KR does have good throat hit if it hurts it is usually either dry or has really high nic liquid in it.

The holes don't need to match up with the slots, the air flow still hits them so don't worry about trying to line them up or anything.

Oh dear I have so much to learn!! It all sounds quite complicated and technical so far! I have already spent more than I thought I would but hope I'm in the right place to get advice and also put 1st timers off buying the MILANO- my experience of this has kept me smoking my rolling baccy at the same time. I put tape around all of the holes but one and it still hardly gives off any taste or vapour.
I thought I had done well in ordering a RN4081 kit(2 batteries,1 atomiser)-it tasted quite harsh n nasty but was close enough to give me hope and I've got some marlboro high liquid and sussed out how to fill using a paperclip and it tastes much better...now I'm reading this is a bad choice!!! Why?What can I expect? What's going to go wrong when?I'm starting to panic as I really thought this would be it! Many thanks for any help.

Goodness - I've only been at this for less than a week but I've had some issues with things. Here is what I'm doing and maybe it will help you.

I'm placing an order tonight with DIYflavorshack.com and ordering a 125mg 6ml bottle of unflavored nicotine solution which the lady said she could split half and half PG and VG so I will get a 3ml bottle with PG and a separate 3ml bottle with VG. Also I'm ordering 20ml each of PG and VG base solutions unflavored with no nicotine.

I already have some cheesecake flavoring by Lorann on it's way from ecigexpress.com where I purchased my KR808d-1. I'm going to order 10 15ml dropper bottles from them because they are the cheapest I've found @ 85 cents a piece, it's not the best deal but it's pretty good I think. Also they have the higher concentration Lorann flavorings for $1.75 each which is a bit better than other places I've checked so the cheap prices along with the good shopping experience is what sends me there.

I've already calculated how to thin out the 125mg nicotine solution and my plan is to clean out a few cartomizers and put new stuffing in them, possibly the blue foam stuff. I'll try both bases (PG and VG) separately with no nicotine and take notes on the experience using about the equivalent of 1-2 analogs. Next I'll mix up a low strength, medium, strong, extra strong etc and test and record with each base. I still need to research what are the most common nicotine levels when ordering pre-flavored juice so I can mix something close. Also I will try adding in some flavoring but I will use the same flavor in all my tests once I settle on a good flavor.

The idea is that I will be able to determine which base, PG or VG is better for me and then figure out what nicotine level works for me. Also it should give me a good idea of what vapor, flavor, after taste etc characteristics are related to what part for example more nicotine supposedly gives more throat hit.

All in all the juice from DIYFS will cost me about $16 not including shipping, the stuff from ecigexpress - 10 15ml bottles and 4 flavorings is about $16 also. Roughly $35 to hopefully nail down which base and nicotine strength is for me and that way I will spend less money searching for flavors and if I happen to get a flavor that is my preferred base and strength then I can narrow down any likes or dislikes for that brand and flavor instead of wondering if I got the base or strength wrong. I just want as little as possible to get mixed up. Hope this helps and if you are interested in doing this I can post the ratios of nicotine to base to get a certain overall strength. I will purchase the 125mg 6ml nicotine because it was the cheapest per mg without getting into the price range of $15+ just for the nicotine since I plan on eventually just buying pre-mixed/flavored juice for a while until I figure out my taste buds and THEN I'll try my hand at making truly custom tailored flavors!

here is my 2 cent:
I smoked for 25 years and now smoke free using DSE901..in the begining and after reading this forum i ordered 510 with pcc/PT and several manual/auto attys ..I still use once a while but it runs way to hot and despite the great vapor ..I get funny burnt taste and that's why not my fav ( tried several atty from several supplier with differnt ejuice vg/pg ) !!
Then I ordered truck load of 401 after reading long thread somewhere about how great it is ...nop not for me ..small carts funny taste !! maybe I don't know how to use the d**m thing!! but I will have plenty of 401 supplies to go around for few years to come !!huh
ordered RN4081 nop to hard of a draw BUT very good flavor..I will keep the 3X sets for rainy days.
bottom line I really think DSE901 is waaaay under rated I use DSE905 and I can vape all day switching 2 3.7v batts and i am very satisfied ..and now 2+ months strictly DSE901 no problem as long batts are charged I am happy camper!!.

Well the other thing I think might be a problem for me is the temp my carto is running at. I could be completely misinformed but it seems the favorite for rebuilding atomizers is nichrome wire so I assumed that my cartomizer is using it also. IF that's the case then it appears to be running way too much current. I actually tore one open yet left it operational to be hooked up to the battery. My battery when fully charged measures 4.16v and 3.86v under load and the cartomizer coil reads 3.2 ohms. I'm assuming that extra .3v from the 4.16 is not the accurate reading to base calculations off. 3.86v/3.2ohm = about 1.2 amps. I'm not sure what gauge wire the coil is but at 38 gauge that means it's running hotter than 2000*F and if it's 28 gauge it's running at about 400*F. According to a website I might order some PG from, the boiling point at least for their USP PG is 370*F and according to Wiki the boiling point for nicotine is 477*F.

I'm not saying the factory coil in my cartomizer is 38 gauge but I doubt if it's 28 gauge either which seems to say to me that the coil is getting WAY too hot hence the nasty after taste I'm getting.

I could be wrong but I'll wait to test it out until I get a 510 3 piece ecig so I can rebuilt the atomizer with a different coil.

Goodness - I was both intrigued and put off by the techy biz, too. Got the v4l ultra kit and a lotta samplers 4 days ago (shipped IMMED) and actually assembled the thing at a stoplight on the way to work and was happily vaping away all the way down the road. WAY easy, and I love 'em. Lots of people think very highly of this vendor/product - check out the forum in here. There seems to be some ongoing bickering about best brands and stuff in here, and I think it's sort of like those old Mac/PC wars. I'd say that V4L seems to be on the Mac end, but lord knows what I'd start. No matter what device works best for you, and no matter how you cut it, ecigs are the best thing going and we're all rolling out of the cigarette smog. Sweet. Still blissed out...

I started with an overpriced 510 and for the most part it works great though I don't like the manual batteries. The two ecigs I've ordered since are the 901 and a rechargeable 510 disposable. The 901 works ok but as I really get hard on mine it gets mad and shuts off all the time. The 13 dollar disposable on the other hand is less tempermental and has a manual battery. Odd as it sounds the cheap one is my favorite especially since it work with the pcc and I work 6 days a week. Unfortunately a passthrough can't help me as I'm outside all day so I am thinking of making two juicebox mods or somthing simalar. Untill I see something better it seems a pcc and two dispoable 510 kits are the way to go. And if you have a gps like a nuvi the charger works on the pcc and I think ther is a cell phone charger that works also but I forget the name

Hey everyone,
First I'd like to say thanks for all of the information on e-cigs that I've found on this thread.

Upon recommendation I purchased the KR808D-1, a cheapo starter kit with two batteries and four cartomizers

This is my first experience with e-cigs so I have a few questions that I'm hoping y'all can help me out with:

/ / /

3.7v v/s 5v:
I guess this is battery size? My cheapo starter kit didn't come with any instructional booklet so it doesn't say what my batteries are. I'm assuming 3.7.

5v would give me more vapor I understand, but would also drain my battery faster. 5v will also last longer? I've not found batteries labeled 3.7 or 5 volt on any of the sites so far (perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place). Do any of you have any recommendations? What do you think about manual verses automatic?

Also, when puffing on my KR808D-1 it's taking two to four "pulls" to get an adiquit amount of vapor / throat hit. Would having a 5v remedy this?

One more thing, the KR808D-1 produces a sort of "wheezing" sound when puffed because of the four airholes that are around the cig - between the battery and the cartomozer. I've noticed that when I cover these holes with my fingers I get more vapor, although more of a pull is required to get it. Any suggestions? Are there aps I can get to perhaps give me more vapor without with wheeze?

Other that these few minor things I'm rather happy with my new e-cigarette.

Any input would be well recieved.

Peace!

The batteries that came with your kit are most likely 3.7 V standard batteries. The 5 V systems people talk about are mods of sorts. None of the standard long, skinny batteries come in that voltage.

Five V systems do produce more vapor. They also tend to produce less flavor and to go through liquid much quicker.

Some people prefer manuals and some prefer automatics. In general you seem to get more vapor from a manual. That is generally attributed to the ability to warm up the atomizer with the push of a button instead of primer puffs.

The sound you hear is the air coming through the join between the cartomizer and the battery. If you didn't have that you wouldn't be able to get any vapor at all... it would be like sucking on a pencil. Some connections are noisier than others. You might try loosening up the connection or tightening it up a bit. Covering some of the holes with your fingers might be all you need. Just don't cut off all of the air! ;)

If you think you like a harder draw you can plug one of the air holes in the battery thread area with a tiny piece of tape and test it out. That is a quick and easy and completely reversible modification to help you figure out what works best for you.

Most people find that long, gentle draws produce the best vapor and the least 'noise.' You might want to work on your vaping technique for a while and spend some time here on the forum learning more before you decide to buy a mod. I suggest you read Wonderful World of Vaping if you haven't already.

Enjoy the journey!

:)

Guineahill,
Thanks for the prompt response. I just tried the vaping technique your recommended (longer, gentler draws) and you're right - I am getting quite a bit more bang for my buck. Less is more in that reguard.

One thing I've also noticed is that the life of my batteries are quite a bit shorter that I had anticipated. Do you have any suggestions as to how to extend it's life?

Thanks again!

Buy more batteries, buy 380mah rated XL batteries, buy a PCC (personal charging case), or a USB pass-through.

PCC - has a larger battery built in with a connector that you can screw the normal KR808 battery into so it can charge, the PCC has supposedly enough capacity to charge a regular KR808 4-5 times before it too needs to be recharged. The PCC also has spots to hold 2 carto's.

USB pass-through - Can hook directly to your computers USB. I could be wrong which wouldn't surprise me because I don't have one and have not researched them but from the info I have read I think the KR pass-through provides the USB voltage which should be 5v.

Hope that helps some, I'm only a week old in the ecig world.

uzzaperez, thank you for your positive comments about my WWV guide!

Unfortunately, you quoted what may be the single greatest error in the guide. In fact, the GreenTech GreenCig is not an E9 ... and the E9 is Leaford's #1 ranked model (or, at least, was at the time of his top 5 video), not the GreenCig. BTW, NHaler carries both models, as does LeCig.

I hope you realize that I am not criticizing you for quoting my erroneous statement, but me for making it.

I'll now go back and read the rest of your interesting post.

Oso - The recommendation to get a PCC is a good one. It won't make the batteries hold a charge any longer, but it will make dealing with it easier. And do be sure to get a couple of extra batteries when you have the chance. There is nothing worse than not having a charged battery when the desire strikes!

I use a USB pass-through when I'm parked at the computer or when I'm driving the car. I have a Kr8 one at the computer and a 510 with a Kr8 adapter for use while driving. My reason is simple... the 510 model has an inline battery which means it works even with a less powerful car adapter. ;)

Some people really like the 380 mAh batteries... they are the really long ones. They last quite a bit longer than the standard batteries. (Conversely, the shorties last for less time!)

Whatever batteries you have don't be afraid to charge them early. Current battery technology isn't like it used to be. These don't need an initial long time on the charger and they don't need to be used until dead before charging. They like to be topped off, so feel free to pop them on the charger or in the PCC whenever you aren't using them. (There are those who believe that the initial 8 hour charge does result in better performance but battery experts say it isn't so.)

Good Luck!

:)

Thank you uzzaperez for one of the best and most objective reviews on this forum (also, your links to other reviews was extremely helpful). Your in-depth and detailed post is what made my final decision to get the VK from V4L, and I couldn't be more pleased. There are obviously a lot of very strong feelings and opinions out there, but I was sick of the POS 3 piece 4081 and wanted to try the 2 piece cart setup. It is reviews like yours, the huge variety of posts, and excellent forum management / layout that compelled me to register and try to give feedback to others like me just discovering this technology. I am not trying to be a fanboy, just wanted to say thanks. Take care and happy vaping to all!

Right on jamvector. I'd also like to give uzzaperez a high five for taking the time to post such a thorough analysis - facilitating a thoughtful thread.

Four days vaping now on my KR808D-1 Cheapo starter kit and I'm diggin' the transition. The flavor's much smoother than regular cigarettes. I used to smoke (funny saying that) American Spirit roll-your-own tobacco and am finding it surprising that I prefer the lower nicotine levels of e-liquuid.

I love the flavor that N-Haler puts out for Virginia Tobacco, but at the 24 mg level I feel it's too much. Also really enjoying the coffee chocolate tobacco - at 12mg I'm able to vape and not feel like I'm overdoing it on the nic fix

Meltmanbob, Guineahill, thanks for your suggestions. I think what I'll probably end up doing is getting another Cheapo Starter kit from N-Haler, which comes with 2 standard batteries, a charger and 4 "randomly selected" cartos. Maybe a PCC (Personal Charging Case) and/or a car charger down the road.

380mah rated XL batteries is another option - - - and pass throughs (going from your pc or wall outlet directly into your e-cig)

By typing all of this out in my own wordage I'm better able to understand what I'm discovering in this new world of electronic cigarettes. I highly recommend it! Share your findings!

If you're just starting out, like me, I recommend the 6ml size e-liquids for trying out a new flavor. There's enough in there to refill for a couple weeks. I was initially wondering how much I'd get.

Have a good vape!
