Shockwave Update 02/08/13. Just spoke with the Rhodium Platers, they are working on cleaning the parts. They feel there is contamination from the Coolant/lburicant on the parts we just machined. They said they may have to go to more aggressive cleaning methods (not sure what that involves, but i assume they use some method of chemical bath to preclean the parts prior to the plating, some more volatile then others) and i gave them the go ahead to do that. I'll follow up and update you asap.

So a degreasant followed by their usual chemical prep should be all that is needed, right? Shouldn't be that complicated.

Unless that's the standard option and they've contacted David because the standard option didn't do the job. In which case the non-standard option might be more complicated. Even if the process isn't complicated or long-lasting, there's still the time it takes them
to actually plate the plungers to be considered. Hope it comes through without a hitch

Guess I'm just guilty of wishful thinking.

i may be ignorant to the processes, but i can totally see why SuperT wants to do as much as possible IN house. Pretty crazy how many problems and setbacks they have had. Where i work, our suppliers bend over backwards to fulfill orders correctly and on time, i know we had a wood supplier who gave us some really bad timber, terrible condition, etc., they re-sent better wood, but then on the next shipment they gave us the wrong amount and some of it was really bad. We dropped them immediately and havent had any problems with our new wood supplier at all (As far as i know)

I honestly don't know as plating is one area i've never ventured into, not even in a hobbyist capacity. I did do some aluminum anodizing a few years back, but anodizing isn't a plating. I replied for them to go ahead with the more "aggressive" methods...lol.

Heres their email(s) from earlier if that lends any insight:

Hi David,

My production manager sent me the following message regarding the plungers. Could you please see below and get back to me.

Mandy,

We have tried all our standard cleaning processes and still see contamination inside the parts. We can continue cleaning, but need Super T to understand there will be an ever growing risk of damaging the parts as we use more aggressive techniques. Could you ask them for the cutting oil MSDS?

Now that funny:thumb: A thought that crossed my mind too... the curse of the # 13

On a serious note this is just one of those times in life that what can go wrong will go wrong.
But as the German saying goes... "Was lange währt wird endlich gut" " What takes long will turn out good"
Hope that translation is correct.

I am German and never heard that saying, however, the translation is perfect :) I have a saying though. Wer die dreizehn nicht ehrt ist die Shockwave nicht wert, ;)
