I generally ascribe to the statement made by Propaghandi in their "How To Clean Everything" album...

"Ska sucks!"

For me, ska is just one of those genres that has never truly progressed. It's the same riff, but different faces playing it.

I think they got it right the first time. No need for a revival. lol

My kid listened to a little ska before he moved into his Japanese heavy metal phase. I wasn't real impressed.
I also never got the association of ska with punk, but then, I'm old. To me, when I think of punk, I think of Patti Smith and her peers.

More complex? Just because you incorporate more instruments doesn't necessarily mean it's more complex.

Most are conceived off the same two-step, dancehall style beat. Fills, vocals and solos are the means to which most ska bands get their individuality.

I can appreciate some ska, but I'd never be able to say that 90% do anything different than what was done 20 years ago.

Music is a very personal thing. True music makes the spine tingle and causes all kinds of emotions and feelings but may only do so to the listener!! Ska is bloody lovely, as is reggae and soca (are soca and ska subgenres of reggae? me no expert hehe) and house especially soulful house, trance and jazz to me but only certain tracks but I bet Fred down the road will like the same music but different artists and subgenres! It'll be the same for everyone! I swear no 2 ears hear the same music!!!

I definitely agree. Just like people experience different flavors with liquid, each ear hears things slightly different.
