Just a heads up for those using the flat top batteries. Somewhere back in this thread it was stated you could use a battery spacer (magnet) to help make the fire button connect with the flat top battery. Someone stated they found some at Harbor freight tools. The Rare Earth Magnets (item #67488) comes in a pack of 10 for less than $3.00 at HF and are small enough to work. They are very strong magnets for their size!! When trying to put these magnets to the bottom of the fire button I discovered they always jumped to the spring around fire button instead of staying attached to the center of the fire button. Placing these on the top of the battery seems to work and it keeps you from having to push the fire button down so hard. Now here is the warning. If the magnet slips to the side of the battery and grabs the spring on the fire button it makes the connection and continues to power the atty/ carto whether you have the fire button pushed or not. Resulting in an overheated atty/ carto unless you get the cover off quickly and remove the battery from the chassis. Just something to keep in the mind if you try this................

Your warning scared me, so I just put some solder on the top of the battery instead, works very well :)

I crammed a piece of tin foil in there last night to make it work, but on my first sloppy result, the foil caught the spring and went on "auto mode"...lol.

I'm gonna put a drop of solder on my batts today after my coffee:)

And here's some initial thoughts:

Used the hybrid atty all last night, and it was kind of hit and miss. I used to be a dripper, and could always tell right before the dry hit came, and topped off accordingly, with the XL, I find myself under-feeding it and getting the "surprise... yuck!" hit.

I just put the carto on, and am liking it so far, but as I said earlier, I want something I can clean and reuse. To Vapage's credit, when I look down inside the carto, I can see the coil at the bottom, so I think this possibly could be easily cleaned and reused. Time will tell.

As I expected, it is a bit too large for my taste (form factor), but that's something I can live with. No leaks, only a slight learning curve, and having to alter the stock Vapage batteries is a pretty small price to pay for 9 mil bottom feeder that should last me all day.

The most annoying thing, really, is that I mix my own juice from two store-bought juices, and in the bottle I think it stayed suspended in layers (I need a mini-paint shaker, lol). So from a flavor perspective, it's hard to judge because I keep getting one taste or the other. The bottles I usually carry with me seem to mix well enough, given some time, so maybe I just need to fill the second bottle and let it sit for a day.

All in all, I think I'm gonna be pretty happy with this purchase, once I get past the learning curve, thanks everybody for your prompt replies to my bottom-feeder-newbie questions.

If its firing its quicker to just lossen the atty first and then remove the batteries, IMO. Also I got the tiny Rare Earth Magnets from Radio Shack. They seem to be working great on my wifes XL. They stay put and reduce the firing preasure needed!. There also small enough to use with a 14500 flat top. And always attach them to the battery.

I will not use a spacer. This has come up in other threads, and so far what's missing here is that it's not just that the atty will keep firing, but what could happen if the batt detonates (or some such). I'm certain Vapage will never endorse using a spacer on the batt.
Better safe than sorry.
As in other threads, i take the side of, if it's a matter of a few dollars more for the right batt, why risk it?
I find the AW IMR fires pretty easily.

I have some flat top 2600 Tenergy's that work too, they are longer so the firing pin does touch; they do compress the spring more and last a good long time, but the IMR's from AW give a better performance for the LR's i use, and they last longer than i expected; like at least all day.

Hey guys, I figured out exactly what I'm buying with the vmod xl. Ended up staying up for another hour last night researching and reading.. I'm going for the 3.7v stock batts as well as 5v but I also want to buy an LR atty or 5 to use with the 3.7v batts. I'm buying a couple of the 306 1.8's with the clear tip(awesome)from MV but I'm really trying to find the i06 1.5-1.7(I've seen people talk about both). Google search only turns up people talking about it..

Some help would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to try it.

They are my favorite, and that's saying something as i have tons of other attys.
They do take a break in period, i'd say a day of full use, but well worth it.
They are built to last.
IMO the 1.5 is best with the XL since it is a 3.7 volt batt.
But for the 5v, i'd go with their HV 3.5 or in that range; no higher though. I have a couple 1.8 i06 that i use at about 4.2 v.
You may like a 2.5 Ohm at 5v, but i'd guess it would be a bit too hot.

On the 306 i06 type, are y'all cleaning them? How, how often?

some are, go to the i06 threads, they talk about it there. some don't. I don't. I just use them a good long time.
If you don't fry them with too much voltage or dry them out they can last months.
If i get 3 weeks out of an atty, i'm satisfied. ymmv.

i have a ton of used attys that still work ok... been meaning to clean them some day heheh.
but some say they are never the same after cleaning.
hate to just toss them.

I completly agree with the use of button top batteries over flat top with magnets ( preferibly AWs ). But in a pinch like for those of us that got stuck with the vapage 18650s with flat tops or those who use the 5v batts. A spacer or solder on the positive end makes things much more conveient. And the smaller ones run less risk of being caught up in the springs.

Yes there has been discusion regarding spacers and not using them. I have used them on flat tops or some I have put a bead of solder. As far as the battery exploding. my point is the atty/carto is going to be what goes first as it will it heat up and burn the quickest. So removing that first is the fastest thing to do in that case. Then remove the battery once the atty/carto breaks contact. The battery should be pulled right after just because, but the danger is now minamal as the battery no longer has a load on it.

Dang AG your brilliant!! That didn't even cross my mind LMAO!!

Hey, I need more XL skins, I got the airbrush out today, I need some to customize! I ordered some Duracoat today to paint my AR-15 and a few other items.......need PV stuff to paint. Does Vapage have an ETA when the shells are going to become available?
