 Sorry, man...

Lol, and here I thought the idea of a brand of some sort was gonna be a surprise! Spoiler! Yeap, the stitching was originally gonna be down the short side. The first idea was to add......wings I guess.....on each of the skinny sides (so stitching would be in the back) with loops of some sort so I could hang this with a homemade lanyard from my neck, that way it was safe. Hard to set down and forget. Wife tells me I'm getting to the point of forgetting things...usually stuff she tells me she wants me to do. Am I really forgetting stuff or is that selective memory....?

Now, anyone know how to make a custom brand without having to go whole hog? I thought about a metal hanger, but I'm not sure if it will be stiff enough or strong enough, or hefty enough. It's not something I want to farm out, I wanna do it myself. Some soft bar stock, that I can bend easily with heat...maybe...don't know. I'm also looking at doing tooling on the leather. Found me a nice ......well, not gonna tell ya what it is, you'll have to wait and see.

Your leather cover is looking way nice, man. You have major skills. Very cool.

I have an older black XL cover that I have been mashing about trying to think of what I want to do with it. This is it. Can you also do a functional leather cone cover too?

HA! No worries my friend, no worries, I ain't thinking about anything that hasn't been thought of before, and it only shows we all have a creative side just wanting to break free.

Based on the cone shape, the leather would want to slide upwards on the cone. The only way (with 10 minutes of thinking about it), would be to make a cone the correct size and shape and have it actually held in place (so it doesn't slip off the top,) by the drip tip. Might also be able to slot the inside of the leather (I did that on that case at the bend points) and hope for a friction hold. There might be another way, but I gotta think about this a bit.

The above is so everything could be put back to original....I guess one could always use an adhesive to hold it in place....but I don't think I like that idea, but that's only me, YMMV.

TB can I see a pic of the cover? May give me some ideas.

It's just the stock black XL cover like what you are working with. I wouldn't have any qualms about using some hot glue, or something, to affix the cone cover. That stuff peels off pretty easily if needed. No damage at all to the original shells.

Cool, then it's a matter of figuring out the math for the cone shape, or just have at. Actually, the have at, might be the easier of the two ways. Nice straight cut for where they join, gonna have to watch where air holes are and will have to drill out the leather, smallest punch is too big, maybe use a counter sink bit so the hole won't close up if the leather swells due to moisture. May have to try after next case is done.

That sounds great, why I asked is that the vapages got the little slots and that flat "o-ring" in the bottom and the boges don't.

Hi Hampa

Thought you should know -- you should take those little flat o-ring off the Vapage carto's and attys. It's not needed. All it is/was is a spacer that some like to use when using on another feeder to keep it from being tightened too much.

Striker --- glad you are getting used to the ProSpec/Shifu . :) Sounds like LR is the way to go for you. Many prefer the LR (1.5). Maybe it's a guy thing? Some of us gals prefer the 2.0.

The earlier version was very good in it's day (and some were better than others), but the ShiFu is, well, what can I say -- it's Shifu (master).

And, glad to see you are getting some love with the XL. What a difference a little practice makes. :toast:

Why not just use a faux painting technique to get the cone to "look like" the leather case on the bottom?

Basically, glaze/paint mixture + plastic sheeting, peel away rumpled plastic sheeting which will give the texture.
Or there's a way to do with maybe tan paint + glazing medium, then blotting it with chamois cloth, etc.

Only other thing I can think of is find a machinist who can cut the cone down, just leaving the threaded part, and then affix your leather over that, punch the air holes, then the leather itself would be the cone....with the threads part permanently placed inside---like it is a gasket.

I know there are times that I am pushing the button very hard, hard enought to compress the spring under the battery.

Hope shifu reading this.....I can usually get things going better with good cleaning and/or turning battery upside down, but overall, the on/off button is the weak link in the design of the vmod.

I think it can be improved, of course, and just like the vmod2.0 and XL was improvement over 1.0, so peronsonally think this would be a worthy design project to pursue.

So, my wish list: VV Vmod + improved firing mechanism. :)
Would sell like hotcakes IMHO

As for aluminum BF, I just never could get into the reo design, which to me is just not pretty or ergonomic. There is another guy who makes really nice wood BF, I like the design sense that goes into them, and apparently he will be coming out with a new aluminum design . So I am really looking forward to seeing how that looks.

I did an entire floor a number of years ago, using creased/crumpled brown paper bags. If you get older ones, it gives a beautiful patina. No 2 are alike.

I always had a "thing" for brown paper bags, and the floor turned out beautifully as you can imagine

I think if my farm chores ever let up a little, I'm gonna try to cover one of the Vmod skins like that. Easy to work with, thin stuff.

Not my exact floor, but you get the idea, I think its gorgeous---mine turned out like this but I cut smaller pieces!

My power went out 4.5 hours last night and another 3 today. At least this time it was during the day. Last night was not fun at all. Could not find a flashlight but was happy to find a lighter and then a candle so I could find a flashlight lol.
I was able to do some much needed cleaning in my bedroom today while the power was out and under my bed I found a sheet of paper. Was a letter that came with my order stating the bottles where on back order and shipping later on. Kids must have ran off with it.

I feel like a douche for even bringing that up in that past post now, cause they did what anyone would appreciate, by sending the IMP part asap, as not to make a guy wait on the entire order. In the end I am happy with the service and the purchase, and have no problem waiting for the extra bottles.

Bummer about the power, man. You feel like a what, about what??

Lol. My mini rant about the them forgetting to ship everything with the order. I finally found the note that was in with it saying the missing items where in back order. So I just edited the post. I had also already sent an email to them pointing it out. They already knew and had me covered. :D
