Just a reminder to all of you, we are not allowed to offer up any trades or sales in any threads on ECF other than specific trading threads (like PIF) and the Classies. Please just keep that in mind (hint hint, edit edit ;)). I'd really dislike seeing anyone getting an infraction.

oooops!

Howdy folks,

Been awhile since I've been here to say hello, I've missed this thread.

Quick story....

I took my VMod XL out of my hand about 5 weeks or so ago, and got all involved in VV and VW, and using RBAs. Long story short, it was fun and enjoyable. Good tastes, good experience, fun modding the AGAs, doing mesh wicks, etc.

A few days ago, I picked up my XL, had a flash of good memories, put a carbon fiber wrap on the black cover, ordered some 1.5 and 2.0 ProSpecs, and threw a 1.8 silo on it and it hasn't left my hand since. Why did I set it down originally?

Anyway, a couple of questions as I am still kinda new to the VMod ( only had it for a month and only had silos, they never had the shifu avail when I was wanting some ). I know it's here somewhere, but with 200 pages......from y'all's experience, what's the best way to prep or season one of VMods pro-spec attys? I've never really used attys but once or twice, so I kinda need a down and dirty education, cause I really like the XL. What about cleaning it, when, how often, how to do it, and anything else I should know? If ya tell me to treat it like any other atty, then I'll hit YouTube for the info.

Next, I keep thinking about kicking it, experiences from anyone? (BTW, the copper foil y'all talk about, I have a bunch of it from doing stain glass work. I believe I still have 1/4 and 1/2 inch wide rolls around here somewhere, you might be able to walk into a stain glass window store and get a foot for nothing) My wife gave me a ZMax for Christmas, and I like being able to set the wattage, so, for those who have done it, is it worth it?

I think it was Kat that mentioned throwing on a 5 volt batt...was it one of the NiMH batts? Did you have any luck with those? I just returned 3 of them and 2 chargers as no matter what I did, they weren't lasting me but 1-1.5 hrs of vaping, no matter which mech mod I used them in. When I use my puck, using 4aaa x1.2 volt NiMH batts, I get all day vaping, but no where near that with the 18x65mm size 5volt batts.

I hope y'all had a wonderful Christmas and have had a great start to the New Year. I know I have, yesterday my surgeon told me that....miraculously, it appears my disc in my back has healed itself ( from comparing MRIs from a year ago and 2 weeks ago, sez it's stuff docs write about for med journals, lol ), what a great way to start the new year, no going under the knife after all.

Thanks folks for all your help, here's wishing y'all a great New Year.

Great news about the back, man. I haven't been privy (knock on wood) to chronic back pain, but have had my bouts. Sucks.

The VMod instructions state to add like 6 drips of liquid to the atty before using. It does take a few mins to get going really well. After that, I have just treated them like a regular atty. Cleanse it in alcohol after a week, and just keep tabs on how it's hitting. They don't last forever, which I found out the hard way once, but have outlasted a lot of the other attys I have used in the past.

Oh dude, a Kick totally wakes these things up. Battery life isn't all that great, but I always carry an extra 18490. Those copper strips you mention are the way I'm doing it. That's awesome you have easy access to them because they do get a little funcked up after a lot of use. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

BTW, where did you get the skin for the case? Sounds interesting.

Howdy TB,

I took my truck down to the detail shop as my back wont let me do the work without some....lets say, discomfort, after about 30 minutes. One of the guys there was doing some carbon fiber work for a customer and while I was standing around shooting the shat with the guy who was gonna clean mine up, I pulled out my PV and started puffing. Long story short, the guy doing the carbon fiber work saw, came by and we talked. I'm now light one 650 twist, a vivi nova mini, and some DIY raspberry juice (backup I carry in the truck), and had enough of what he was using to cover about 3 or so VMODS, as well as some free tinting done to the rear windows in the truck. I screwed up the first attempt, but the second is very nice. My wife has laid claim to what's left, sez she can use it to make some "man" jewelry ( she does beading, I do wire wrap and starting in silversmithing next month).

I was sure what he was using was nothing more than a printed pattern on a vinyl like material, but he was excited and got the packaging to show me it's a auto grade carbon fiber. Got a nice texture to it, looks great, and was easy to use. No vinyl, adhesive was on the pieces. Cut to basic size, allowed for some overlap, cut where the overlap was so I have a nice joint with no line. Trimmed around edges with a sharp razor (this is where I screwed up the first time, razor was not new, second time, new blade on exacto).

Thanks for the atty info TB, guess I need to start looking in the classies for a kick, maybe I can find someone to trade some of this gear I have accumulated, but I kinda doubt it. If they have a kick, I don't think the gear I have will interest them much. Now you mentioned a 18490.... Didn't I read that you mounted under the bottle? Or was that someone else?

Hello Big Mac, I can answer that question, TB and I both kicked our Vmods on the same day, you'll be really glad you did. As TB said, it brings them to life. The copper tape goes inside the battery panel, making sure that it makes good contact to the negative wire and spring. Then the kick sits at the top of the battery panel on top of a 18490 aw imr; good idea to pick up at least two of these batteries, they last about 1/2 a day depending on your vaping. The top of the kick makes the positive contact, the copper spring loop on the side of the kick makes negative contact through the copper tape. That's it. Use about 3 layers of copper tape for a good thick contact point. The kick sits a little bit wobbley on top of the battery which can be remedied by putting a rubber o ring between battery/kick. I use the 2.0 Shifu Hybrid with the kick set at about 9. It's a good warm, strong vape. Look back on this thread at page 183 to find photos. Good Luck. If it turns out you need copper tape PM me I have quite a bit.

Howdy folks,

How y'all doing this fine cold and dreary Sunday, lol. I see you are still causing trouble Tat....you know it's either kick it or be kicked, muhahahaha. Good to see ya.

Hey Vince, went and looked at the pics and the info, looks good, thanks. How long you guys getting with vape time with the 490s? I'll probably have to get 3 or 4 just to make sure I don't run dry somewhere. I hate it when I do that...ya know, like when you put your hand in the blender and push the purée button and the blades catch your finger tips, I hate it when I do that too. Where a bouts in Citurs Heights Vince? I'm off of Van Maren between Antelope and Auburn.

Thanks for the info TB, seems with the good reviews you folks are giving the kick, guess I'll order one today, maybe get it by mid week. I know when I was reading up on the kick, they REQUIRE AW IMRs.....forgive my noobness, but why? I understand about the safe chem and high discharge, but there are other batts that fit that bill also.....at least I think so, any idea why those specific batts?

Thanks folks, it's good to hear from yas.

Big Mac

BTW Vince, there's a few folks in our area talking about maybe trying to get our own little meet put together so we can all meet up and call each other bad names and destroy either our livers with a few beers or our bellies with too much coffee. Would like to include ya if you're interested. No specifics yet, just looking to see if there's interest.

Love seeing you Big Mac.

On the batteries -- I tend to trust Evolv. And, yes, I believe it is a power output capability thing, consistency and just a good old quality .....but don't quote me on it.

Plus, who else makes good IMR's in 18490? AW's are the only good IMR's I've experienced.

On the priming --- These Shifu's (slant coil spec) have a tiny drop of PG in them I've been told, but it sure isn't like primer from other atty's of the past, so there has been no need to blow them out. I usually put one on my Vmod, fill from the top to well cover the mesh and coils and let it sit for a few minutes. The excess will drain back into the feed chamber.

They break in pretty fast, but sometimes at first you might get a pop or crackle or two. That is normal for the atty.

From there on out just use like you did with your carto, but do feed more frequently.

I don't suggest a long vodka soak with the hybrids. If it seems whimpy and isn't overfed, a quick couple minutes in vodka or PGA might be useful. And, I very rarely dry burn them. When I do, it's only a couple of quick bursts.

Everyone has their own routines. I usually just use mine and several weeks later, without notice or fanfare, it simply dies.

Hey BM, me cause trouble, never:blush:

Now as to why the kick REQUIRES IIMR's, well it's because they are High Drain batts and can handle the higher voltages.

Hey Big Mac, as far as the 490's go I have two of them in rotation and I use both of them everyday. Of course I have a couple of other mods in rotation as well. I'd say I would get about 5-6 hours straight vaping. I like the aw imr's, they aren't too expensive and they work good. I live on Sylvan between Auburn and Greenback. It's great to find another vaper in the neighborhood Big Mac! I actually grew up on Van Maren between Calvin and Candelabra. PM me about getting together, sounds great to me, thanks for the invite. I'll go for the coffee and take a pass on the beers, it's all good. Good luck on putting the Kick in your Vmod, it's pretty easy. Before I installed it I thought it was hard to imagine the VmodXL getting any better, but I was amazed. Power, heat, Awesome.

Howdy Tearose,

Thanks for the info on starting up and the maintenance of a new atty, appreciate it greatly. My expected delivery date of the attys is showing as Tuesday, looking forward to the delivery, lol. Just funny as hell that I'm sitting here with anticipation waiting for a delivery of a small little thing that simply heats up and vaporizes a liquid. My wife thinks I've gone a bit nuts and enjoys ribbing me about it ( she quit cold turkey 3 years ago).

Well Tat, trouble, nah, not you...not me...I say we lay it on MaxP or maybe Chadster, they were the trouble makers...yeah, thats the ticket....and since neither of them has commented in the last 2-3 weeks, I think we'll be safe blaming them, at least for awhile.

I was looking around, checked AltSmoke, SuperT, and ElectronicStix, everyone has the kick at 45 bucks and the 490's are 9, 8.50, and 11 bucks. Other than the 5% discount at AltSmoke, anyone got a better discount code before I put in my order?

Thanks folks,

Big Mac

Lovely to see you back here, Mac of large size. And I get such a kick out of your posts.

Sounds like your learning curve just flattened out! You are way ahead of the game for a newb. And you seem to be a quick study. I love silver. Can't wait to see what you do with that!

I am kickless in California, but the price you quoted is right for all/most vendors. For batts, I do like RTDVapor dot com. Great CS, prices, shipping, quality.

I think you will enjoy kicking the VMOD vs. using 5v batts, as I do. I'm not really sure why they didn't last more than an hour to an hour and 1/2. Mine last a long long time. I can never put it in hours as I vape on so many different devices. I love the warmth and hit from 5v, but of course I can see how most people would want to kick their VMODs.

I'm jealous. You have a Puck?

*goes to check the vape basket to see if there's any room left...*
