Taking pics really doesn't show anything....kind of hard to do and take pics at the same time :D

- start by removing the old screen/ribbon.

- once off I run the tip of the iron back and forth on the solder tabs adding solder if needed to get a nice tinned pad.

Ribbon setting on board

Soldered

He makes it look so simple.......

So Mike, have you got any news on the possible dna co-op?:)

Dont expect this before January sometime.
  • With the Holidays coming up next week, I will be out of town most of the rest of this month.
  • I want to see what Evolv is going to do with the 2014 lineup, rumored to be right around the corner.
If Evolv release the DNA30 (rumored to be VERY soon) then there is a decision to make. Do we jump on the bleeding edge of the 30, or see if we can get the tried and true 20 at a discounted rate. It all depends on what they do with their price-points, etc.

Anyway, I will be reaching out to Brandon later today to open the dialogue on all of this. He may not be able to speak to it yet though, until he makes an official Release Announcement.

Waiting for my led voltage frames and will put one of my screenless DNA20s in that big alum box you recommended with a led meter. At least I can have batt volts and output volts. As big as that box is, no problem fitting a couple or 3 big flat lipos in it...;) Still have a NIB, but am afraid to even look at it sideways.

I clamped each side down in a miter box, then used hacksaw. Put the two halves back together and used a piece of sandpaper, taped flat, to level it all out.

I used the screws that came with it (they included several extras) and just put a lot of elbow grease into to it, letting the screws tap the holes. After that experience I went out and bought myself a M2 tap, as I dont really want to go through that again!

Haha alright thanks man, keep up the good work!

Hey Mike, saw in another post some pics of a dual 18650 battery holder from FT you were gonna use. Was that a success? Was thinking of ordering a couple for use in my first mod.

Yes, I have had that holder in the Mod since day 1. What didnt work (@ 20w) was the 18650B bats I started with, changed them out with 18650PD and I can hit 20w on the DNA with no problem using that battery holder. Been running with it almost exclusively for 3 weeks now.

One nuance with them is that you have to plug the charger into it to wake them up after you first insert the batteries. Not a problem with this kind of Mod where I planned on using a USB charger module, but would not be very suitable for a Mod where you intend to be able to just swap out bats when they get low. Bap reported that his didnt work that way, but mine definitely do, and I also found it in the documentation.

Thanks for the quick reply...this would also work with the charging chip from evolv I'm assuming or is that what your talking about? I'm still kinda dumb to all this and have just started doing research. I'm also figuring out how I'm gonna get everything all soldered up.

Yep, the Evolve USB Charger board will work, just will take longer to charge because it is 500mA. I used the 1A charger to be able to charge faster was all. The nice thing about the Evolv boards is that they are tiny.
