I think I know what you mean, and so I think I agree with you.

The example I remember was that a vamo was set at 14 watts and for the given ohm reading it should have been outputting X volts, however it was actually outputting less. I'm not sure if the vamo was saying it was outputting X and was actually outputting less or what the situations was. I'm not familiar with the vamo so I can't say what the deal was. Mike and BJ were talking about their self defense vamo's in another thread.

The Vamo meter is completely passive, it does not show anything under load. Here is a Vamo set at 14 watts 3.8v on the Batt. 28g 1.5 ohm coil. ECD meter has .1ohm internal. Advance by frames to see the readings on load. Clic pic for video.

I'm not sure what thats supposed to show other than the inability of the module to hit the high range of its voltage on a single cell. If there were an issue with the metering vis a vis a misread based on loaded voltage, the results would be the same with stacked batteries.
dr g, all it is showing is that, just because you set a PV at a set wattage doesn't mean you are really vaping at that wattage. This vamo was set at 14 watts the batt was at 3.8v so it was in no way over advertised limits as to amps or voltage with a 1.63 ohm coil. At 14 watts I should get readings of 2.9 amps and 4.7 volts but my readings on the ECD are 2.63 amps, 4.49 volts, and 11 watts. This is just an observation, not trying to prove anything...:)

Ordered the Bat for my next attempt:
Gens Ace LIPO Battery 6000mah 25C 3.7V
Anybody have any idea how much space you save by removing the hard case shell?

What are the pros and cons in using a 1s2p bat (like this one) vs a single cell bat?
Would I be correct that I could probably get 2 3000mah Bats out of it I tore it apart?
Would the individual Bats then be 12.5C bats?

I have to figure out an enclosure for it now.

I found a decent source for enclosures BTW, bought two from them already, including the one I used on this Mod. They have several that could be adapted to our use, and they are cheap. Free shipping and delivery was about 2 weeks. They also included several extra case screws, which was nice.
RF Connector,SMA Connector,SMA Antenna,SMA Adapter,SMA Cable - Rfsupplier.com

That's a monster battery. If you open it up you'll find two cells inside wired in parallel. Each cell will be rated 3000mAh 25C. Be very careful opening up the hard shell and separating the packs. Doing surgery on live LiPo's is the scariest thing I've ever done in RC and modding. You could easily puncture/damage/short one cell and cause a fire.

Once you've opened up the box (not recommended!)... here's a tip: most often the cells are stuck together with a very thin double-sided tape. To separate them, use a piece of dental floss or 15-lb monofilament - insert it between the packs and gently pull against the tape to "saw" thru it. Do not try to pry the cells apart, work them loose with the floss/monofilament.

On the Turnigy I started opening the hard case down by the connectors where there wasn't a battery. I just broke the case down there and kind of tore off plastic pieces until I could get it off. Because DrMA is correct and sticking a razor blade or screwdriver thru a cell would ruin your day.

Also unless your planning on using the cells separately there is probably no reason to try to seperate them, they are all ready wired in parallel. I just usoldered the big honking wires and soldered on 20g leads.

You ARE trying to prove your claim that the DNA meter is "passive" i.e. that it does not show loaded or live voltage. This is not possible with the example of the vamo because the vamo has no equivalent meter. It has a voltage setting but no voltage meter (that the user can see).

No, I was just answering and showing bapgood my results on a vamo not reaching their advertised claims. If I wanted to relate to a DNA20 I would have put the ECD on a DNA20. Why is it I always feel some aggressive criticism in your posts? We are all here to enjoy and learn.:)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!!!!!

48 hour review
but first
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!.

OK, been vaping on the "Weekender" exclusively for 48 hours now. Here are my Impressions:
  • 48 hours, 3 R91 tanks, vaped at 11w, still at 50% left
  • Hits very nicely
  • Feels REAL good in my hands
  • I like that it stands up nice, no worries about it tipping over
  • I like the Industrial look of it myself, but my GF says she would want a girlie one instead
  • Great for an "around the house" mod, not extremely pocket friendly though.

All in all I am extremely pleased.

Well, got 3 solid days out it at 11w then it died. So it serves its purpose, a solid "Weekender".

As someone noted, these aluminum mod 510 connectors are a concern, I fear it will wear out. I can see myself upgrading to a SS connector soon. I ordered this Mod, figure I will use the 510 connecter, save the button for spare parts rummaging, and throw the tube away, at $14 its worth it.

Your FT link is bad. So, not sure which $14 SS mod is the target. EA clone? the SKU is a better link

I just hate the "high" price to immediately waste most of the product. You'd think we could order parts from somewhere.

Fixed the link, thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, wasting the tube sucks, BUT where else can I get a GOOD SS 510 connector for that price? I coudnt make one for that, and the lower quality ones at Madvapes are $6, so I am spending twice as much for a good one.

I am with you though, I wish FT, or some new entity, would start offering high quality parts for DIY.

lol.....I just ordered a FT Vela kit and 350 as well as the JM kit and 18650 https://www.fasttech.com/p/1500500 to look at making sidekicks with....and I wish I could just order the switch as that is mainly why I ordered the singles

Oh and I ordered a 50 pack of every size of silicone oring they had :D.....couple bucks each seemed like a good buy.
