How about cutting the brass kick tube for the chi. That should work and the brass is easier to solder the neg to.

30mm is over an inch. Is the nut really that big? If it's 3mm, where did you find them?

Had them made in the Machine shop at work. In hind sight I should have had them make the tube a lot thinner.

Is there any salvaging a cell where the tab broke off? Or this just a good candidate to see what happens when you drive a nail through one?

I've done this before in a bind, but if you have other cells, it's really not worth the risk. You would need to have Aluminum solder and flux for this...
