some folk are more visually oriented and may grok it better with a pic or two.
That was pretty much my reason for even bothering with this. While Boden's single line of text says most of what needs saying, I tried to put myself in the frame of mind that this newbie has zero experience and knows nothing whatsoever about electrical/electronic devices. It was an old habit from waaayyy back in my technical writer days. Trying to explain the function of metallic and fiber optic time domain reflectometers gave me a choice of either training the operator in the entire field of electronics or writing in a manner that any eighth grader could understand, or drawing them a simple picture with a brief explanation. A TDR, by the way, is simply "cable radar," but because TDR was part of the name of the instrument, one could not call it something else

And... would there be any benefit to those of us who have been vaping for a year or more to have such graphs with actual measured data displayed on them? As I said before, I do not have the test equipment at my disposal to do such a thing, and maybe even if I did, it would take more time to make a thousand graphs to accurately represent single 2.5-Ohm coils up to and including 0.1 quad claptons, but I figured I needed to do something to help newbies get a grip on how this works.
It does the pumping/pulsing for you
So noted for future reference - if this ever gets off the ground. Thank you all for your input, and if you can think of more, please continue.

I'm not sure an experienced vaper would gain much from a real life wattage graph. That's straightforward. I do think maybe a few real life TC graphs would help folks understand how TC actually works, only because I think folks misunderstand the whole pulsing based on changing resistance feedback loop and think there's a little weatherman(woman) in there with a thermometer. When I first read about TC, I thought it actually measured the temp of the coil.

Um, "not to scale"? ;)

And, while I can't figure out a way to phrase it that would actually fit in the graph, the TC one could maybe have a footnote that you don't have to pulse the button, the mod does that for you. I can visualize a noob trying to figure out the necessary rhythm! :w00t:
That would also depend on if the person is using TC as it was originally intended or the new ride the limiter style.

I wouldn't worry about making a TC chart as no noob should start out using it. That's hobbyist level fiddling.

:p

The way that ecigs coils were originally designed and worked was to have a ramp up that mimicked how a cigarette felt when you took a leisurely drag.

For noobs (smokers) mimicking the feel of a cig is pretty important to a successful transition to vaping.

For lesure smokers tootle puffing seems to work well. For people who would "hotbox" a cigarette more power works better.

Either way It is important to start a smoker on the simplest no fail no fiddle gear.

Hey, I started with Vuse for 6 months before my fist little Ego vape pen. That's when my purchasing pattern began to climb exponentially. And here I am now trying to decide should I my next puff be the butter toffee (yum), caramel latte (OK), or Ry4 (tobacco and vanilla, a perfect combo) all lined up in tanks on mods right next to me.

My vote is on butter toffee, that sounds wonderful to me. Well, off in search of a good butter toffee recipe, and probably to place a new flavor order.

What does an absolute newbie know about how a personal vaporizer works? Someone said you have a battery that heats a coil that vaporizes the e-juice and you suck in that "steam" like you used to suck smoke... What goes on in the newbie's mind? I suspect he relates to the known heating element in his house: the kitchen range. You put a pan of water on the stove and turn the knob to high, the element glows red, then in a few minutes the water starts to boil and makes steam. Now you can turn the knob to off, but the water still boils for a minute or so, and you cannot put your hand on that element for several minutes or you'll get burned even though it has been turned off. That big element takes a while to cool off.
I love this part as I "see" pictures in my head when folks talk.

I think the graphic is more confusing than just saying 'Coil heating and cooling lags behind power button actions.'
I was thinking the same, but of course, thought it was just me.

that's always been the case, but nowadays, that would mean a non adjustable airflow tank and an ego pen style. These days I wouldn't hesitate to start a newbie on a simple VW mod and a nautilus if they have a little help here. Just because way too many weren't satisfied with the ego pen styles or even one that the bottom turned to adjust volts a bit, can't remember whatchya call it.

A "Spinner" or "Twist" VV Ego with an Aerotank was a great starter setup..

As for VW/VV the Innokin V3s were very nice!

People want the newer style things these days.

Edit* forgot Smoks was "Winder" lol
Each Company had a different name..

I agree with you that a simple VW mod with a simple Nauti tank is a great starter and offers really good performance for the money. Still, when I switched from those tasteless foul cartridges I was always raiding 7 11 for to a simple plastic clearo on a vape pen, it was like going from B&W to color. True, I moved on from there pretty quickly, but I remember one clear advantage (not the plastic). It was dead simple. There really was no way I could mess it up. No watts to worry about, no what's the best battery, not even a dry hit issue. Level in the tank getting low? Turn it on the side to get the string wick wet.

I could not in good conscious recommend a vape pen/plastic clearo to someone who is already sufficiently motivated to come to a forum like this for starting information. But I didn't find this place until I had been at the vape pen for a bit and started to wonder "if this is really good, how much better is out there". One big advantage to the wide assortment of equipment available is you can find something which works at just about every price level, and you can choose to advance at whatever rate is best for you (if at all, I'm sure lots are happy with their starter set and will never need or want more). Too bad the FDA is ready to yank that all away.

Totally agree with this. Motivation to come here is what I was assuming with VW and nauti, since I rarely see actual people. lol Same thing with me. My sil (who won't switch to vaping), let me use a disposable she'd bought. First time I'd heard of vaping. It was horrible, but I could see how something better could actually work. Starting searching, found Busardo, which of course led me here. At that time Phil was hooked on Ego 1100 mah and Boge Cartos. That's what I bought, and absolutely HATED the cartos. Can't stand em. But I soon found a CE4 and that's what saved me. Moved on quickly from that to a vivi nova.

I'd most likely still be using the eGo Twist and Protanks if the eGo batteries lasted longer. Had the Vivi Nova's before the Protanks and they worked pretty good, too, although coils were a bugger to find at the time.

I could kill a 1100mah eGo in a few short hours, requiring me to have several on hand while the others were charging. Yuck.

Shoulda used 1300 Spinners, and gotten a few long hours? ;)

I still have enough cartos to last many years. In early 2012 I bought a brick then found the Vivi Nova and they went in the drawer.

Currently have one in a IBTank with 18mg in it. It's not a bad vape. Never liked Boge cartos.

I wonder how many people out there have a cartotank in use next to KFv4 and a RDA with a 150W build in it..?

I like Vaping at different nic strengths and pg/vg ratios. That said my ADV 66/33 16mg lives in my Hurricane.
