looks like we got a new s-word
I just had a memory of the SNL episode when they were doing the Celebrity Jeopardy! skit with Sean Connery and the "S-words" category. "I'll take 'swords' for $200," and Trebek kept trying to correct him, "that's 'S-words' Mr. Connery." "Yes, 'swords' for $200."

And in trying to think of what else we could call cigarettes, I actually had a Sam Kinison moment.

"What should we call them? You wanna know? Really? Come here. I'll tell you. Come here. You wanna know? How about we call them POISON! THEY'RE POISON! RIGHT THERE IN YOUR LUNGS! THEY'RE DRANO ACID RAT KILLING FLESH BURNING STENCH OF DEATH POISON! YOU'RE KILLING YOURSELF AND YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW IT! See, just cut your arm open and put the cigarette right there in your veins, just put it right there in your veins and light it, and while you're at it just SET YOURSELF ON FIRE BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO DIE ANYWAY!!! That's what we'll call 'em. You like that name? Do ya?"

I personally think that name's a little too long, though. :p

Even with all we know, there are still plenty of new smokers lighting up for the first time every day.

yes, yes, i totally understand what you're saying now. so, in other words, you feel these new smokers should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and forced to answer for their crimes against God and country?

BT did some nasty things in order to make a profit, but I certainly didn't think the things were good for me when I started 25 years ago.

For sure! Back in the mid 'fifties when I started, we were already calling them coffin nails and cancer sticks. I think we did that to prove how tough we were.

Not at all. I just believe in personal responsibility, and free choices, especially regarding our own health and life.

Just bugs me. It sounds like a toddler talking about #2. There has to be a better word for cigarettes. I mean, I guess it's impossible to use the actual word, but there has to be something better than stinkies. Or analogs.

Anyone?

How about we just call them CIGARETTES instead of the usual idiotic, juvenile forum synonyms?

Analog could possibly remind me of a #2 also. I never understood that one. I just usually say cigarette. I imagine it might bother someone when I say "Excuse me, I have to go take a toot". bahahahahahaha Sorry, I couldn't help myself. It's Saturday night and I have been sleep deprived for a good while. Thanks for posting.......I needed a chuckle. :)

They cause you to meet an early death so why not incorporate that, sad but true. (I also hate stinkies, it's worse than those "truth" commercials, I swear they made me want to smoke out of annoyance).

eliminanalogues
cigaruins
slaygarettes
poisonalogues
fatalisticks
demolismokes
homocigs (homicide)
genocigs (genocide)
tobacocides

"cancer sticks" has been famous forever and kinda hits home, it's a little harsh but so are tobacco cigarettes. :(

I don't see anything wrong with the word cigarettes, after all that is the correct name.

The "correct" name is any name that is commonly agreed upon. What's the correct name for athletic shoes? Sneakers? Gym shoes? Skids?

"They are also known as trainers (British English), sandshoes, gym boots or joggers (Australian English) and Geordie English in the UK,[1] running shoes, runners or gutties (Canadian English, Australian English, Hiberno-English), sneakers, tennis shoes (North American English, Australian English), gym shoes, tennies, sports shoes, sneaks, tackies[2] (South African English and Hiberno-English), rubber shoes (Philippine English) or canvers (Nigerian English)." -Wikipedia

Names are fluid from time to time and culture to culture. Cigarettes stink. Stinkies is a good term. Though sneakerpimps "stankarettes" is awewsome.

I also dislike the term "stinkies". I also dislike the term "toot". Veterans of ECF will remember this.

Stinkies and toot = farts. Yep, that's the one and only thing I think of or hear in my mind when I see the words "stinkies" and "toot". Farts. So I don't use those terms. And like the OP said, I hear it in a three-year-old's voice.

I don't call people out who use those terms as that would be exhausting and pointless, but yes, I wince internally whenever I see an adult or a certain Youtube reviewer use them.

I just call them "cigs" or "real cigs".

It's the same way I feel about the term "my bad". I hated it when it first appeared in our lexicon, I still hate it to this day. I've never, ever used the term "my bad" unless I'm using it specifically in a sentence, like the one I just typed. It's "my fault" or "I'm sorry", not "My bad".

But I'm .... retentive about stupid stuff so I understand I'm in the minority.

P.S. "Analog" makes me think of either a synthesizer or a wristwatch.

you forgot the most important one... bobos.

i'm putting in my vote for TLS

I also dislike the term "toot".

and "ma". oh, that drives me batty. it's M.A.H. or milliamphour. your mother has nothing to do with it unless you made a stinky or a toot that is suspect.
