I wouldn't say ECF is "full" of hateful people but it does have its share. I believe ECF is just experiencing what many other forums are dealing with. I'm a mod on another forum and we have noticed that the rudeness, ungratefulness and belligerence has definitely increased in the past 8 months. In the last 8? months we've given more time outs than in the entire 11 yr history. Economy, Societal behavior???

I guess I am Old.

When I started on the World Wide Web, All Porn was in ASCII.

That was way off topic but very funny.:D:D:D

Reminds me of early internet porn done on a dot matrix printer and you had to be across the room for it to merge into a real picture.
BBS's were long distance calls for me. I use to log into the U of D computer to do actual surfing of all the colleges tied into them. No http, no pictures, just text. If you did find a jpg it took hours to download.

Then there was the usenet and plenty of pictures, and video that took weeks to download.

Back on topic;
Yes folks have opinions, and strong ones.
They find something that works for them and sing it's praises.
Vendor or product that disappoints and we're just as quick to say why.
I don't see that as hate.

Maybe I'm missing what you're talking about. I certainly don't use the whole forum, just certain parts, so it would be easy for me to miss what it is that's bothering you.

You mean there's Other types of Porn?

Man, I gotta upgrade my IBM 8088 and Hayes 1200 Baud Modem to Check that Out!

OH
I'm sorry for your sadness, hooflabablah.

As they say around here, YMMV, meaning that one's experience is highly contextual, influenced by a myriad of incalculable odds. I can't pretend to know exactly how you experience this forum, although a cursory look through your post history shows you did get help, and you did contribute to meaningful conversations.

My own experience, although irrelevant to yours, is quite the opposite. Helpful, nice and knowledgeable people taking time and patiently guiding and explaining things from the most elementary to the most complex. An intent effort from the moderators to keep things clean, and an attempt at building a community of vapers. A place that connects, to some extent, newcomers with veterans, and vapers with suppliers and activists with an obvious intention to provide a fair, level-headed yet regulated environment for all. And quite fun, here and there.

Of course, the expected occasional fights, misunderstandings and plain old meanness happen. It's normal. This interaction, after all, takes place in reality, with all its shortcomings, and between humans, with all their shortcomings; but, overall, this forum seems to have gathered a crowd that's highly above the average and I guess that's all I can ask.

And, yes, sometimes people get over-enthusiastic about convincing the world their choice is the best. It's understandable to a point, but it becomes annoying, I agree. But I think it's just willingness to share a good thing, rather than a desire to put others down.

In fact, let me quote somebody here: "haha, with any hobby, there's gonna be people that are loyal to what works for them". Exactly.

I've only been a member for a short time, what I've seen is welcoming and truly wanting to help forum. Many forums I've been on tell the new user to use the search button.I'm sure some people have a bad day and maybe short temper, but I don't think widespread. On the other hand I see new posters here ask the same question asked 2hrs earlier,or the answer is in the info section.

The only problem that I have ever had on ECF is back in the beginning when I asked - What is the best PV? That is when I learned to never never never ask that question. You will get swamped with info and being a noob it can and is overpowering. Take it in baby steps.

I got lucky I had a few old timers take me under their wing and I made the transition easily. I have been able to use everything I have ever bought and I have had plenty of the learning curve experience to pass on when needed. Make friends and take every bit of advice with a grain of salt - what works for one may not work for another and so forth... This holds true for PV's, Juices, Vaping styles, etc... Baby Steps...

just got back. haha, i didn't expect this many posts! Ok, so one poor choice of word. It's not "full" of hateful people, it's hard to make a concise accurate thread title that summarily expresses your entire thought process. I just think there is a slight bit more rudeness that i've seen. And it hasn't been towards me, i haven't posted much, i usually see it while i'm searching the forums trying to find a specific piece of information. Also the word "smartassed" would probably fit better than "hateful". By no means have i had a terrible experience here, It's just been hard to find information without scrolling through pages of... lets say "banter".

The mods are great in my opinion. It's not their job to go around giving people citations for being belligerent or mildly caustic. People will always be people, and i'd hate for that to ever be outlawed. I think rolygate should/could write a book. And i think classwife's response to this little thread is a brilliant example of "human" etiquette. It's not argumentative, it doesn't dismiss any other person's opinion, and yet doesn't compromise her own opinion. The high road always seems to get there better. It's just a lot more effective than, "nuh-uh!" or, "well you...!"

But anyway, excuse my use of the word "full". In my opinion, this forum has a slightly higher number of impolite posts... made by people.

I think that we can be mature about this, Mr. Poopypants.

I don't think that what I've seen here is even as bad as average. People are passionate about their hobbies and about the success of complete strangers in quitting smoking. The only time that I've seen people become really angry are the times that it appears that someone is attacking the community or attempting to belay the success of someone else. For instance when someone goes around urging others to buy an expensive and sub-optimal kit from a sheister vendor, or in discussions about patent trolling. Members here get offended because they see it as someone trying to profit from the failure of a person who is making an honest effort to get better. At least that is my assumption about the motives of the more passionate people here.

As far as the "mine is better than yours" crowd goes, all I can say is "Heck Yes!" Be proud of your success and whatever means you used to achieve it! If even one person out there saves their money and life because one of us here that convincingly argued their hog/Darwin/Provari/lavatube/buzz/blu is the best then this is all worth it for all of us. I bought a Lavatube because of PBusardo and SteelJans reviews and a few passionate people over in the LT forum saying, "Yes, this is a sweet and inexpensive VV APV that is really kickass despite not being a Provari and even if you buy a Provari, you will want this as a backup." When I do buy a more expensive mod that I like more, I will argue in favor of it as well, not because Lava/blu/joye/ego sucks but because I want people to be as happy and successful as I have been. Even the haters out there helped me to know the limitations of the equipment that I was buying, so I was prepared to work around it.

If I've forgotten to say thank you to anyone, you have my most sincere apologies, and my greatest thanks. I haven't smoked in ~35 days, and haven't committed any homicides. I'm going to keep saying thank you by not smoking.

Cheers,

VC

My opinion on this subject is very much in line with what everyone has been saying so far. I have been pleased with the friendly and supportive nature of the greater majority of this fine community.

I think I understand the OP's point about the search function seeming a little counterproductive. A lot of that may have to do with the fact so many veterans and experienced vapers, as well as some excited rookies, like to pitch in and answer questions from new members instead of deferring to the standard internet forum "use search" statement. We were all new to this once and probably wished we had been given a lot of the very same advice we gladly offer up now. I personally have no problem sorting through somewhat muddled search results because I understand it's a result of helping new members wrap their head around this whole new concept.

Wow! I used to run an "old school" BBS back in the 90's. It's so rare to hear people talk about them anymore, but I do miss that tight sense of community they provided since all the users were geographically nearby.

Now I'm going to put on my old Def Leppard CD and think of days gone by... :D

WWIV -> Renegade -> Oblivion/2 myself :)

I used to be able to recognize what type of modem, speed, and error correction in use was connecting to my BBS by the tone.... man that was a long time ago.

Edit: Oh yeah I forgot, I ran Wildcat for like a week.

Not having been a long time member I must say that I see more welcoming, courtesy, and respect for new people coming into this forum. I feel this OP post is very unwelcoming to those wishing to become a part of this community. Feeling welcome and having my questions answered either by response or my own research I cannot place a value on that.
I am very grateful for that. In return I try more than once a week to welcome those newB's, and in addition to that I at times state the following:

"take what you need from here and leave the rest for another day" - or maybe for some just let the nonsense and banter roll off your back.

I came from other forums where if you ask a question your yelled at for not using the search function regardless of my question being answered over and over of what Ecig I should get, I still received such a warm welcome and in two days Iam enjoying a good ecig. I feel there is more help here then your average car forums as this is a health issue not just a hobby and its in human nature to see other people get healthier especially when were all after the same cause. Really one of the best forums Ive been to with great people. And I cant see judging an entire forum with thousands of people by several negative remarks, theres a lot more good here then bad and I for one appreciate it much. Thank you guys.

I can't say I've ever found a forum quite as kind and helpful as ECF. Nor have I EVER and I mean absolutely positively ever in the history of being on forums found one so welcoming of noobs. Most forums are particularly cliquey. However many people out of the woodworks rouse support for others here. Particularly many posters are very helpful to the newcomers who don't understand PVs yet. Time and time answering the tired and old questions asked 100s of times before and in a kind "I really hope it works out for you" tone and manner. It sounds to me you may be hunting for the negative. In my experience the overwhelming positive energy here outweighs those possibilities greatly.

Further, there are some very nasty vaping forums who will treat a noob like a complete and utter idiot for daring coming to their playpen. I think if you go to one of those you might think differently about ECF.... ;)
