I assume there is a battery in the bowl, is there a carto in the stem?

Unhooked, yes the battery (18350) sits in the bowl and no, there is no carto in the stem - it's kind off a self made replacable dual coil atomizer based on the compact "needle & pins" setup....

Here's a quick snapshot of the guts before I closed it all up.

I will post more of this build a bit later when I have time.

Bap, had I known about this alumiweld about a month ago, I probably would have bought some. I don't know yet what for, but just for the possibility. They say a propane torch is adequete, but would a butane torch work too?

Ahh, I know, for a dual tube alu mod. :)

lol....you should follow my dna builds, I posted it in one a couple of months ago :D

A butane torch is what I used, the rod is quite thick so I just cut a thin piece off and placed it between the tube and the brass plate and then put a little pressure on the plate while heating it with a butane torch.

That looks fantastic 13... all the more impressive for fitting into a thin real WOOD skin!

Well I have been following your WIP thread pretty well, but I don't do so well without big pictures, especially if it is tucked in between all those words and numbers and stuff

Good to hear about the butane torch working, I'm sure I'd only need small stuff welded too, and now I know: those pesky 3mm tubes that I press fit into the tank caps, where I even tried threading:

Is this stuff safe for inside a tank? If not I could cover it with safe silicone...

I have no idea if its "safe" for that application.

This is from the Alumiweld site if this helps. The site also says non-toxic to humans :D

Below are questions which have been asked about AlumiWeld.

Can these alu solders be used with a regular iron - or do they require special temperatures (I should probably read up on them)?

This makes soldering to aluminum as easy as any other metal:
Aluminum Soft Solder Flux Kit | eBay

I haven't used the stuff that DrMA linked as I just found out about it today. But the ebay listing has the melting temp at 500*F/260*C so I would assume so if the preparation process is done.

nicely done, l3oertjie, as always!

bapgood - that Alumiweld stuff looks very nice for welding big aluminum bits. I'll definitely need to add it to my modding kit. However, for just making a quick wiring connection and especially for the aluminum tabs on flat LiPo's, you definitely need the solder/flux. Some components don't react well to blowtorches

Yes. Regular soldering iron, regular tip. Set temperature higher than Pb solder. I usually go to ~750F to work with the alu solder.

Re safety of Alumiweld- it's a Zinc alloy and zinc is labile and can be toxic. I would say it's not food safe, so I'd try to keep the juice away from it.

Here are some pics of the leaf switch mouth piece I made for my pipe. The slot I cut runs quite a way back - this allows the springiness of the plastic to keep the contacts apart (until pressed together) and also provide the right amount of tension - so the lips don't have hard work to do activating the pipe. Of course, these pics show the mouthpiece without the heatshrink tubing applied to make the sides airtight. The upper terminal is visible close to the tip on the third photo.

Here are some close-ups of the Genesis atty I made for the GUV Mk1 pipe. The tank I used is the tube from an M Series ecig and the mouthpiece tube is from a 510 - which slides firmly over the tank and down into the stem of the pipe.

Sterling silver earring posts make great coil fasteners - this shows the post at the top crimped into a syringe needle, the coil is wound around the base of the post and the earring clasp pushes on to hold it tightly in place.
