The way I understand it, he thought he was adding a bit of nic solution to his vg. Instead, he was adding a bit of vg to his nic solution.
No, I have no idea where this is going.
I often vape 36 mg juice; that's what I started with. 40Mg juice should not be life-threatening.
Did your friend go on Belgian TV and claim "E-cigarettes almost killed me"?
I find your attitude offensive. Anyone who does DIY SHOULD know to try out a small sample at first. SHOULD know to let it steep and mix well. SHOULD understand proportions, and what he or she is mixing.
Hi-concentration nic base is NOT the problem. And you act as if the "incident" was something that everybody should stand up and take notice of. "really bad case of sea sickness and a headache" ?? Yeah, sounds like too much nicotine. Didn't kill him, didn't fry his brain, didn't cause him to jump off a ledge or get committed to a mental hospital. Didn't need a hypo of adrenaline straight to the heart to get her back on her feet and back home before her boyfriend killed John Travolta.
A fellow vaper told the following story that happened to him the other day:
He decided to make his own liquids. He purchased 52 mg VG base on the internet, regular glycerine at the chemist to dilute it to the concentration he wants, and flavorings.
Why 52 mg you ask? Because nic juice is illegal here, so he reckoned it'd be less risky to import one highly concentrated bottle than several with a lower concentration - only one small illegal parcel, instead of a big one, or several in a row, and only one chance to get busted. Not sure his risk reduction strategy is correct, but that's what he thought.
When he made his 6 mg juice, he used a big syringe to transfer a little nic base, and another, totally identical syringe to transfer a lot of plain jane VG.
See where this is going?
Long story short, he made 40 mg juice, and ended up with a really bad case of sea sickness and a headache.
The first lesson is: be safe and don't buy high concentration nic base. If you mess up, you won't hurt yourself.
The second lesson is: prohibition is stupid, because it makes people take risks to get what they want illegally.
Ive handled 100mg nicotine even spilling it on my hand without the symptoms you described.
How about "When idiot government officials prohibit nic juice, unqualified people end up doing stupid things."This should be titled, My friends are idiots.
Or was drinking while doing it. Adding two sources of nausea and headache to the whole situation. DWDIY (drinking while---)I'm guessing that for someone used to 6mg juice vaping 42mg would be VERY harsh. How the hell did this person not notice?
Continuing to vape, even though the hits are suspiciously harsh, and the initial stupid mistake... this person probably shouldn't be doing DIY.
Then you are easily offended my friend
Look, the guy was shooting for 6 mg and ended up with 40 mg.
Well, if he didnt know how to mix without getting this numbers so far off.....he should have learned something about calculation, and get some info around what he planned to do! 100mg nic ainto noe trouble, if handled with care...but wihout understanding mixing calculationa, or how to use an online juicecalculato...then it could be making som bad stuff... Also similar as driving a car...should know where to go, and what stupid things who could happen when not!
I'm very glad for you. Me, I've vaped 32 mg once, and after 10 minutes of vaping that juice the way I usually do at 12, I've felt sick and fidgety - very much like the effect I got when I smoked my first cigarette after months of quitting.
I wonder why some people fail to grasp the concept that their personal experience is not necessarily the norm...
Making the claim that we shouldn't be allowed to obtain higher concentrations of liquid-based nicotine because an inexperienced first-timer mixed up his/her syringes is equivalent to claiming that we should ban kitchen knives because a novice chef sliced his finger open.
Look, your friend made a mistake. Thus, your friend paid the price. If I confuse my salt and sugar shakers in the kitchen, I end up with salty tea or overly sweet eggs, and that is nobody's fault but mine.
There are plenty of warning labels on the bottles, plenty of stickied threads here at ECF, and plenty of youtube videos/google articles that allow first-timers to gain a relatively comprehensive understanding of DIY before even touching a syringe. Your friend simply didn't pay enough attention to his/her actions, and if you think that this life should be full of restrictions and limitations in order to prevent people like that from occasionally scraping their knees or drinking salty coffee, then I disagree with you deeply on a philosophical level.
I don't find your post offensive, but I find it ignorant and rash. You even contradict yourself by saying that A) limitations on nicotine acquisition cause potential harm, and B) we should limit nicotine acquisition. I think you should sort out your philosophy a bit more and think deeper as to what caused this problem and how it can be avoided/resolved in the future without negatively impacting thousands of responsible, keen individuals.
Moral of the story is know what your doing before you do it.
