Tired of people defending the protank ll

i'm not sure where i stand on this, i started a thread a few days ago regarding my 2 day old kanger PT2 not working (dry hits) at all. well, that's a lie, i probably got 5-10 decent draws but it's otherwise been 95% dry hits and the other 5% massive flooding. it's my first tank/mod (i've been vaping with a disposable eonsmoke carto and it works "fine" but not great, and i tried a friend's cartotank, unsure of model on a vamo which was awesome i knew i had to change).

i'm waiting for some replacement attys, new/better e-juice (Halo), but also bought a new cartotank because i didn't want to fiddle with replacing parts only to still not work and have to wait for a new tank to come in the mail.

i'm 0/1 on success with the PT but it's also my first and only "real" APV so i have to agree, the PT2 doesn't work well for ME, but i'm also new to APVs and my opinions are limited by lack of experience.

I used to like the Protank until I started using my iclear30S, big difference in vapor, taste and general ease of use. Later on when I started to recoil/rewick my Protank, I went back to it, but was pretty brief until I tried rebuilding the evods and PT2 minis. For me, had much better results with those.

As for PT2's being garbage as they are out of the box so to speak, IDK, I didn't have issue with them at the time, although now that I'm using a Kayfun, highly unlikely I would enjoy them as I did before.

Still, I think they are great entry toppers, and a perfect gateway into the world of rebuilding. Don't want the fuss of modifying? Then just get an iclear30S, set it, forget and enjoy your vape. iclear30S coils probably have the longest usage life I've experienced to date. (50+ refills with little to no change in performance)

Only thing though, you cant use cinnamon, licorice, or citrus heavy juices without the risk of tank damage since the iclear series tanks only come in polycarbonate. Same goes for e-liquids that have strong perfume/alcohol based flavorings.

Personally I am grateful to the PT, the flooding issues I was having is what brought me to this forum, and without this forum would be still using an ego style battery and a protank.

Once I figured out that the coil head needed to have time to be saturated with juice and to not over tighten the PT onto the battery, I never had a issue with the PT, provided flawless operation. Could vape it to the last drop.

I used to get upset when people said they provided muted flavor and mediocre vape. Then I bought my first rba, the Russian, and discovered how inadequate the PT really was. Since then I have PIF all my PT's, ego's, and cig-a-like devices to new vaper's. I refuse to buy an atomizer that breaths through the stem, it is just such an archaic design flaw.

The PT is what it is a beginners atomizer, a gateway to re-buildable atomizers. Heck, some people even rebuild them, while it is possible, and one can get good results, the PT is the smallest platform to build on known to Vape Kind. If you want to re-build get an rba.

While the Protank is not a total POS, it is not even close to being a quality satisfying atomizer. One would be much better off with the Aspire Nautilus. Even the Aspire BCD blows the PT out of the water. But like with anything, you have those that are loyal to them and refuse to expand their vape horizons.

The ProTank may not be the best BCC out there but it's hardly the worst either - certainly it looks like Kanger are flailing a bit at the moment with the PT3 and the AeroTank and all their different atty heads.

The problem as I see it is that the BCC design Kanger went with has an inherent flaw in that it only copes well with a certain consistency of e-liquid - different PG/VG ratios and changes in temperature and air pressure can upset the wicking and cause either dry hits or flooding.

I've yet to get the PT to work well for me but tbh, I haven't even really tried other than messing with the flavour wicks - I have some kanthal and silica coming soon and I'll probably tinker with it a bit to see if I can get it to work the way I want it to. And for me, I guess that's its greatest strength - that for a fairly small cost you can get a well-built glass tank that looks good and allows you to rebuild the coils and wick - the only caveat being that you're likely going to have to faff with it a lot to get it to work the way you want it to.

It'll last me until I can afford a KFL+ anyway :)

i agree with this. i've noticed that if i put a thicker juice in my pt2 that it just won't wick well enough to keep my from getting dry hits. the lighter, thinner juices work much better in my protank and i just won't put heavy juices in it anymore.

I'm a big Kangertech fan. I have 1,2,3 a mini and I just got the Aerotank today. I have to say the Aerotank is their best yet!! All of it is stainless steel except the bottom where the air flow dial is. that is some chrome plated metal. It might be steel but I can't tell. Its 510 connection is sealed so there's no leaking on to your battery. They redisigned the dual coils and put the long stem back on. It uses the same glass as 2 and 3 and I have a couple of painted ones so I was real happy about that. Then there's the air control dial. It works really nice. I like to have a tighter draw and it's easy to do with this. Here's a picture of it on my Provari mini.

My out-of-home ADV device is a Davide, which is almost identical to the PT2 (it uses the PT coils).

Gurgling is very rare, but when it does happen, it almost always turns out that it's because I didn't install a new coil firmly enough.

Good candidate for an official pro tank cheerleader (customer relations specialist would work too). :D

I have uh... 7 Protanks IIs and the few times I've had a problem I found it to be because I needed a new atomizer or didn't have it screwed in tight enough. I really wouldn't say they've taken much effort, if any, to use.

I'm eagerly awaiting my new IB Tanks in search of an even better vape, but all in all I gotta say they've worked well enough for me with no complaints.

OP,
I had lots issues with my mini PT 2's at first. After trying several things what finally got it to work pretty darn well was replacing the silica wick with cotton. Just one strand of CORRECTLY sized cotton. Not too much or too little and NO flavor wicks. And this is with the stock coils. I now have 4 mini PT's and they aren't perfect but pretty reliable.

I feel your frustrations. Carto-tanks have me now feeling the same as you do.

I have had no issues with the 6 PTs that I am using right now. They are working great and I am enjoying them. This sounds reminiscent of the Vivi Nova hate not too many months ago. "Why should I have to fiddle with it straight out of the box?!?!". The short answer is, I didn't fiddle with the Nova nor did I fiddle with the PT. Both worked just fine out of the box, for me at least. I must be the luckiest guy on the planet. :D

I didn't really enjoy my protank but have found that the reason I wanted to like it so much was because it is glass. Since discovering the aspire dbc I haven't had to mess w the protank anymore. I think vaping is an adventure in finding what works for u. I may love one thing and u might hate it. That doesn't mean either of us are wrong... anything is better than the alternative of analogs (at least in my opinion)

protanks should be called amateurtanks
Well, no, they're called 'Protanks' you have to be a pro to make them work right. :D

You either like clearos or you don't, they're not the only type of device on the planet. So if you don't like them, move on to something else.
Well, no, the Protank II certainly isn't the epitome of clearo design at this point, and just because the Protank II doesn't work well for someone doesn't mean that NO clearo will. There's at least one clearo that I like much better, but I won't name it in this thread.

Try a carto tank, try a RBA, or RDA
I did get my first carto tank today. The tank itself is excellent. I'm not sure about the carto I put in it yet, but of course there are many to choose from and they're cheaper than most clearo heads. I'll be trying an RBA soon enough. But RDAs don't strike me as practical, "Ain't nobody got time for dat". :D

When I first got my Protank-II I liked it a lot. It was my go-to setup for work everyday 5-6 days a week and was always dependable. Only time I had an issue it was operator error most time, overfill the tank while watching TV.

Now it just seems every head I buy there is no QC checks and balances in place and it gets tossed in a blister pack and sent to which ever vendor I happen to order it from. I'm also willing to bet I'm having close to 65% failure rate on all heads I have bought in the past month.
