Just happened to realize that I haven't seen anything from @Two_Bears in awhile. Anybody hear anything from him?
He's fine. We keep in touch through texting. He stopped vaping a while back and because of where he was living at the time it was hard for him to get a good connection so he gave up getting on ECF.

I had a LUC that lasted 3 years and it was still working when I gave to a friend. I don't get the impression from reading here that they wear out that quickly.

What goes wrong with yours?
the ports just stop charging…at all.

They last me about a tear each. Is that normal

Not normal in my experience, been using the same Xstar for about 4 years, works great.

I do have that model Nitecore, backup, and sometimes use it. SOME of my flat tops have a hard time getting a connection, and need to be rotated and nudged until the charger sees them. IMO the dimples on the charger are too small. Might that be what's going on?

I have that one as a back-up and don't use it much. I have been using a nitecore I-4 for a little over 2 years. I've had a few times where I needed to roll the batteries to get the lights on, but once it starts charging, I'm good to go. If you don't need the digital display, you might want to try out the I-style if yours is for sure DOA. I think my I-4 runs a little cooler when charging.

Do you have any regular NiCad batteries that you could test in the D-2? I think that one can charge several different chemistry batteries.

Yep, that's what mine does as well. And beginning to sound like a design problem...

I figured it was possible oxidation on either the batteries (one of my sets was most likely to need a roll) or the springs on the charger contact not giving quite enough pressure. If I put my oldest set on 2/4 slots, they are always fine, but 1/3 slots are more likely to need a roll.

I need advice on chargers. I've been using this one. They last me about a tear each. Is that normal or am I wearing them fast because I charge bats (18350s) about every other day?

Edit: what do you all use?

I have the same charger in use.

What keep failing on them?

I don't think using them every other day is a lot of use compared to high wattage vapors.

I have a couple LUC 2 bay I bought in a ECF coop late 2013, its pretty well has batts in it all the time and still working. The 2nd one I bought is still NIB. I have a nitecore i4 but its used to charge the AA,AAA rechargables that my son goes through like water in his controllers. The i4 is older than the LUC but has seen a fraction of the usage the LUC has.

I too have to do the rolling thing sometimes even with my button tops. But eventually this thing just doesn't charge. Lights are on and the bats will have been in there for twice as long as they should and they are half or less charged.

I found this review about chargers. I think I'll buy myself the Xtar sv2. One of the reviews I read says it takes about 2 hours to charge 18650s which is great because the Nitecore takes about 5 hours to do it. I still have a Nitecore in its box that I'll keep as a backup.

I've got an Xtar VP2. It's the same price as the SV2. It doesn't have 2 amp charging like the SV2, which I guess is why the SV2 can charge so fast. I've heard 2 amp charging is a bit hard on batteries though, and gets them hotter. I generally charge at 0.5 amp unless I'm in a hurry. The reason I chose the VP2 is that it has USB power output, so you can use it to charge phones from batteries if there is a power outage. SV2 doesn't have that.

I’m in the market for a new charger too! I’m still using the one I bought from provape in 2016. I sometimes have to roll my batteries around to charge in the bay. I don’t need anything fancy with a screen. I’ve been really happy with a 2 bay one. Is Xtar the brand everyone is going with now?

Xtar is generally reckoned to be good quality. They have a bunch of different models with different features, including a really fancy expensive one that takes a shot at calculating how much life your battery has left in it.

You can get them a little cheaper, but really if you're paying < $20 for something that should last years a few bucks shouldn't be a big deal. Maybe if you use lots of power and go through multiple batteries a day and use matched pairs and so forth it might make sense to pay more attention to the quality and features.

My Luc was cheap and it was still going after 3 years.

I communicated with Two Bears earlier today and told him he was missed. He says "hi".
