I picked up an hcigar DNA75 Nano the other day from a member here on ECF. He had 3 and sold his black one for a great price, about a third of retail. It's a nice compact mod, well made and stylish, with lots of features. There's a learning curve to all the button press combinations!

I haven't downloaded Escribe yet, but I understand that dna mods are highly customizable.

I was thinking about the JAC Vapour one, the one that @Baditude really likes. I don't really need it but it's fun to get new stuff. It's still crazy to me that you have mods now where you have to install software so you can update firmware and customize. Things used to be so simple, you had a battery and a coil. But I could get one of those and use the Goby as my backup setup...

I've heard nothing but good things. And it looks slick. But if I get one I'll need to get a couple of 18650s and a charger, which is one of the reasons I'm hesitating. More stuff to buy and more research to do.

So MVS has a Samsung INR 18650, 2500 mAH, 20 A. I did a search for INR and it sounds like it is kind of a next generation chemistry up from IMR. A post I read said it's good for vaping. Still trying to understand everything about batteries, I'm an electrical engineer but I'm in the power industry, so if you need someone to explain transformers I'm your guy but batteries are sort of a mystery.

And how do people feel about Samsung as a brand? They're a good electronics manufacturer but when I think of them and batteries I remember a big thing about the Note 7s blowing up...

What cells would be 'best' depends on your usage.
Samsungs are great cells, but again which specific model is hard to say without knowing your usage.

Mooch has tested a good many cells, best to refer to his work when selecting cells.

---> Mooch's Recommended Batteries | E-Cigarette Forum

A larger cross section of cells ---> 18650 Battery Ratings Table | E-Cigarette Forum

Or, his entire blog ---> Mooch's blog | E-Cigarette Forum
Thank you for this. Mooch seems to think the Samsung 25R I'm looking at is a great battery for 20 A. I don't think I have a need to go past 15 watts with the tanks I'm using so that's just 5 A assuming the battery is at 3 V under load. Should be a winner...

Might be better off with a 3000mah 15/20 a CDR cell for increased between recharge run time.

15a CDR is good for up to 45w each cell.
20 CDR up to 60w per cell.

At your 15 w the run time of a 3000mah cell will be a noticeable increase over that of a 2500 mah cell.

What Topwater Elvis said.

I've been using Samsung 30Q's in my mods for about a year and a half, rotating two pairs of cells in and out of a dual battery mod (Eleaf Invoke). I still get morning until bedtime vaping at 10W. They are good cells. I've also used matched sets in triple battery mods and they perform fine.

At low wattage, you should look for high MAH rated batteries that also have higher amp ratings compared to others with the same MAH rating. As MAH increases amperage load capability falls, but at low wattage levels higher MAH gives you longer vape time. That's just the way Lithium cells perform. If you don't need 30A capacity (and you don't at under 20W), go for high MAH ratings and you will get longer vape times between charges.

Mooch is the leader for battery info around here and on several other forums. Read his battery tests and his blogs. He's a guy to be trusted for accurate battery recommendations.

Well I pulled the trigger on the JAC. Maybe I need to start posting in the Shinyitis thread.

So naturally I pulled the trigger on batteries and a charger too. And I got some more Goby coils while I was at it.

Plus all the DIY stuff I ordered yesterday...all told I think I have 4 packages on the way. Do people still say vaping is cheaper than smoking?

While I'm pretty sure you're joking, it really is. Just have to prorate the hardware over it's estimated life. Or just compare it to a carton of smokes and their estimated life :w00t:

Yeah it was supposed to be a joke. And you're right, if you prorate the cost is cheaper eventually. It would just be even cheaper if one doesn't continually buy things unnecessarily because you just want it. :D

Smoking you just get your pack of smokes and that's all there is to it. Vaping has so many toys and trails to run down.

A small return to tootling... With dual AA batteries, no less. I'm actually liking this quite a lot.

@Shawn Hoefer - That looks like a neat little set-up! I think it's kind of interesting though, that it's described (either by JoyeTech, or just by VaporL on their website), this way:

"Here comes with the first vape kit compatible with AA batteries in the world. Joyetech Batpack Starter Kit is the latest brand new vape starter kit with innovative technology, which can be powered by both dual normal AA batteries and AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries(Dual AA Ni-MH CELLS INCLUDED)(two fully charged with 4000mAh capacity) with 1.85V constant voltage output."

Joyetech Batpack Starter Kit with Joye ECO D16 with Dual AA Ni-MH Batteries

After I read the other info on it on VaporL, I did a Google search on mods that take AA batteries. I found that even as long ago as April 2015 (or even earlier)...there was a kit called the JomoTech Iexceed2 that used 2 AA batteries and came with a CE4 clearomizer. Was a cheap little kit at about $9!

The AA Battery Mod - JomoTech Iexpress2 | Controlled Coil

It made me wonder why I'd never seen anything about it on the ECF or on other websites back then. Any ideas on that?

Also, seems like the underlined statement above is wrong then, about being the first in the world. Maybe there's no more JomoTech though, to contest the claim? I haven't checked on that.

Yup. I still have the Jomo... Honestly, it's terrible. Almost 100% plastic, takes 3 AA in series (4.5 V), and lasts about 10 puffs before it's unvapable.

Jomo still exists, but they (thankfully) no longer make the AA kit.

So, maybe Joyetech isn't the first to make an AA mod, but they are the first to make a dual AA mod :) And, because of the coil tech at work in the BFHN coil, they're the first to make it truly functional...

I'd be curious to know more about how that works. You said the older one lasted about 10 puffs, which seems about right trying to vape with AA batteries. I'd be worried about the cost of replacing those AAs all the time, but rechargable AAs are still a thing I suppose.

Okay - I cannot remember who posted - nor in which thread (either here or in Innokin Owners Group), about getting more of the Innokin Disrupter/Cells . . . So I am going to just put this out there and hope that they will respond or someone can point me in their direction . . . Thanks ;)

The BFHN coils operate best around 1.85V. The mod is supposed to regulate it to 1.85 constant. They're saying around 800 puffs to a set of AA cells. The ego AIO ECO starter kit, with an internal 650 mAh battery is supposed to get around 350 puffs. YMMV.

ETA: for those keeping track, that's less than 7 watts.

Shawn...I can see the possible attraction for a new vaper...who owns NO 18650's...(but may own a Ni-MH charger already)…

But...to a vaper (like yourself) who has a 1,000 18650's lying around...what would be its allure...(besides being a vapor "novelty")???

..
