But, about a half-dozen hits into it, I start to get the "burnt" taste.... I'm watching for bubbles, and they're not flowing as much as I would expect. 65p/35v juice :(

I just looked at your build again and it looks like there may not be enough wick in the coil. I found with using Rayon that you need to put a lot in the coil itself. For me it needs to be in there pretty tight. You may want to try it.

That's what I was thinking - keep the TAILS sparse, but pack the coil?

I've not heard of many people having any probs at all. (and yes, pokes, the klowns) In fact, I'm planning on getting a couple more ("for show") on FT's sale tomorrow. A couple of bad bases does not a bad atty make.

I WOULD hesitate on the black ones tho. They seem to be the trouble makers. :)
The $10, $12 or $18 one on FT?

Those are the two I've been eyeing..... I think the different prices might relate to the lil blue screwdrivers :D

Thanks @sawlight. Yah, I've been told "just touch the deck", "bunny ears", etc. I might have missed my cut on that one side that's showing

Yeah, I think the short side might be the dry hit issue. It's a fine line with these silly things, trying to get enough wick, but not too much! If you think this was fun, I'll send you my Fogger for a while to play with? I say "for a while" because I assure you, you will ship it back to me!:lol:

Looks like the $18 one is 24mm in diameter, the one in the first link is 19mm like the authentic... ;)

You are correct, k2. They second one is a KFM PLUS, whereas the 19mm is a KFM.

And the variance in prices are (in this case) because they are two different attIEs. The slew of KFMs tho ..... the difference in price may have more to do with the manufacturer. I don't think it's all about the screwdrivers!

I don't think you're getting dry cotton hits. There isn't enough wick inside the coil, you can see the tops of the loops aren't touching the wick. You're probably experiencing "hot legs" from the exposed parts of the coil.

When you do take it apart, throw just the base on a mod and fire it, you'll see what I mean. Fill the coil right tight and fire it with a soaked wick. Make sure you get a few seconds without any hot legs then put it back together. It should work fine then.

Where, oh where is my dear @TrollDragon?

Critique, please?
Wowsers, nice job on the coil! :hubba:
Except its upside down... ;)

Start on the topside of the mandrel and wrap clockwise, that way when you rotate the coil 180 degrees for mounting there will be a leg on the left at the bottom and the right. This will allow you to pull the wire around the screws the proper way for tightening.

(Random Internet Picture)

You also have no where near enough Rayon in that coil, which is why you are getting the burnt hits. You have to use more Rayon than you would with cotton. I would probably use twice the amount you have there, holding the coil in place with a finger nail while pulling the Rayon through not tight enough that you cant pull, but tight enough that you need to keep the coil in place. Then pulling the wick back and forth so it will slide in the coil but not very easily. Fluff the wick ends, thin the density of the tail by half 1 or 2 mm away from the coil edge and trim so it just touches the deck.

Juice up the wick, put the bottom part of the chimney on and adjust the wick away from the little juice channels inside.

I don't usually work with 30g, I put 28g in the Mini. I don't have any Mini build pics, but you want it to end up looking like this when it's wet.

The bottom tail going to the deck is like a Mullet if that makes sense. :)
