@brewbear I might be wrong I've never even looked close enough, but yeah... I use the inbetween draw :)
In that case, the FrankenKayfun would probably work best for you. @ToolmanTexas , @Two_Bears and several others could offer guidance on what to buy and how they fit together. I found the K5 to be a bit airy, even on its lowest, most restrictive setting. The kayfun mini v3 allows you to open/close the airflow as much as you want. The Vika Fantasy would be another choice since it uses the nautilus coils.

Yeah I thought it had 4 airflow settings, thanks for clearing that up Cosmic_Glaze :)
The Kayfun lite range look pretty decent, I haven't looked at the KF5 yet. I'm going through all the different tanks too see what I like the most
The KF5 has come along way since the lite.
KF5 pros over the Lite

-AFC no tools needed
-Top refillable
-Larger deck to accommodate builds. Hooks to trap leads.
-will wick any juice (max vg)
-glass tank will take all your favorite tank cracker juices

Lite Pros over KF5

-slightly tighter draw
- many "kits" available to modify and customize
- $$ cheaper

I've ordered and tried about 12 or 15 different "MTL" rebuildables since I bought my first Kayfun a few years ago. I keep going "Meh" and revert back to the Kayfun LP V2. I continue to hope that there's a new Holy Grail out there somewhere, since Kayfuns are being discontinued at Fasttech.

I really like the grub screw coil attachment on some of the newer atomizers. It's just that so many new tanks are supposed to be MTL, but they use large ports with a way to close down intake with a rotating ring on the outside of the deck. It's just not the same when you introduce restricted air into a large port below the coil.

I've heard about drop in restriction tubes for the coil head air tube, but they didn't come with any of the atomizers I've bought.

My KF Mini V3's came in yesterday in the China shipment. I washed them up and coiled the SXK. I haven't coiled the noname V3 yet. The SXK is working fine with an SS316 compressed coil. Next time I wick it I'll stretch it a little for TC use. Flavor is good and it's a tight MTL draw that resembles a cotton filter cig out of the box. I opened it a half turn more to loosen it up a little.

I like the old Kayfun "standard" drip tips better than the one on the KF mini V3. The V3 drip tip is made into the top cap and doesn't appear to be removable/replaceable.

I feel your pain! I have several RTA types, all touted as MTL this, MTL that, even the ones with the optional under the coil restrictors. The only one I found to be somewhat acceptable was the Digiflavor Siren. All others feel like a "Cloudz, bro" tank with an afterthought like"Duh, let's sell them this little piece of crap to restrict the airflow...sort of" and sell more tanks. My compromise was Cyclone rda or Chalice lll rda or No Fear rda on a squonk setup.

I'm currently vaping on a Nautilus mini and a KF5 right now.
Nautilus mini 4 air flow settings.

KF5 does not have a screw for the afc. It is adjustable on th base no tools needed.

 - that's right. (I haven't used it in a while, so I kinda fergot  )

It's took me freaking ages to read through though, so many posts.

The trick is don't even bother. Just jump in wherever you land. Nobody's tracking. ;)

Just pretend like you've been there the entire time.

That's a good reason to buy up every atomizer that fits your preferences (before they are gone)! That, and who knows what future trick the FDA will pull on us? Right now, an importer is defined as a person who imports ecig products for the purpose of sale and/or distribution. You have to wonder if personal shipments from China could be re-classified in the future.

I cut and pasted some of the Q&A that interested me from the FDA site below. It's obvious that things have changed and will likely continue to change.

Commonly Asked Questions: About the Center for Tobacco Products

What does being "grandfathered" mean?

Any tobacco product (other than those exclusively in test markets) on the market as of Feb. 15, 2007 is considered "grandfathered." Otherwise, any products that are introduced or modified on or after that date are considered "new" tobacco products and must submit a premarket application to the FDA through one of the three available pathways.

Are there any e-cigarettes that are grandfathered and could be used as a predicate for a Substantial Equivalence application?

It's possible that an ENDS product exists that may have been on the market in the United States as of February 15, 2007 and could be used as a valid predicate. However, the burden of identifying a predicate falls to the applicant, so a manufacturer would have to prove such a product is grandfathered.

The FDA expects that most ENDS products that companies submit for market authorization will utilize the PMTA pathway, which does not require a comparison to a predicate product

How can FDA regulate products that are clearly not made or derived from tobacco, such as the coils of an e-cigarette, as a “tobacco product?”

The definition of “tobacco product” comes from the Tobacco Control Act, which was written by Congress. The definition of "tobacco product" includes any product made or derived from tobacco and intended for human consumption, including any component, part, or accessory of a tobacco product. All products that meet the definition set forth by Congress, except for accessories of newly-deemed products, are now subject to FDA regulation.

As a result of the deeming rule, the existing framework that had been in place for previously regulated products – such as traditional cigarettes – is extended to newly-regulated products. So, just as the FDA regulates rolling papers as “tobacco products” because they affect how tobacco is used, the FDA now regulates the coil in an e-cigarette because it similarly affects the product in question.

I am an importer of tobacco products – what requirements apply to me?

Importers who import finished tobacco products for sale or distribution in the U.S. are considered tobacco product manufacturers. Examples of requirements applicable to importers of newly deemed, finished tobacco products include:

  • Reporting ingredients, and harmful and potentially harmful constituents;
  • Submitting an application for premarket review and receiving authorization from FDA before marketing new tobacco products;
  • Complying with health warning requirements on product packages and advertisements; and
  • Not selling modified risk tobacco products (including those described as "light," "low," or "mild") unless authorized by FDA.
Additionally, importers who own or operate a domestic establishment engaged in the manufacture, preparation, compounding or processing of a newly regulated tobacco product need to register the establishment and submit product listing to FDA by June 30, 2017 (extended from December 31, 2016).

Adulterated and misbranded tobacco products offered for import into the United States are subject to detention and refusal of admission. Visit out new Manufacturer hub for more information.

I have an e-liquid line coming out next week. Will I be able to sell it next week?

New e-liquids entering the market after August 8, 2016 are in violation of the law and may be subject to enforcement if marketed without authorization.
To legally sell a new e-liquid, a manufacturer must submit an application through one of the three available premarket pathways for each tobacco product and receive marketing authorization from FDA.

My goodness you are a chatty bunch this morning.

Good Morning, TP'ers!

I believe this is going to be a "lazy day". I think I'm going to finish cleaning a few tanks and maybe playing with some rebuilds today. Do I build a Chalice III clone for a squonker, or do I whoop up on a KF5 or a "chubby" KF3 Mini? Decisions, decisions, decisions....

Clean house, make dinner, host dinner. I can play tomorrow.

I've just seen a review for a five battery mod by kanger, how stupid!

Only if it comes with a onboard booster to boost the van.

@DingerCPA I'd say I prefer quite a tight draw to be honest, probably not as tight as a cigarette draw but I am used to using a nautilus mini so it'd have to be something with the same draw as that!

The nautilus mini is my favorite tank, I'd not really used many others til I got my Triton mini on Thursday :)
I have tried other tanks like the cleito, an the isub when I was giving sub ohming a go and was just not for me.
Found it was to airy an couldn't get a draw, the baby beast is terrible too! Where's the attraction?!

I can recommend the KF mini V3 and the KF V4. I don't have the built from parts KF lite yes but I figure is shoud work. Also I really like the merlins mini. Small airflow reducer and airflow closed really works for me.

THe drip tip should come of. It does on all of mine.

It's even better when they stop making it. My preferred setup is discontinued or changed to the point where I don't like it.

Again, the draw is a matter of personal preference. I found the Merlin mini a bit too airy for my taste, others find it fine and some think it is the best thing since sliced bread. To each its own. And before a Merlin aficionado jumps in, yes, I did use the restrictors, yes, I know a little about building coils and wicking and how they can be used to further restrict air flow.

The drip tip on KF3 mini clone is removable.( it just seem like it's not) It is just a bad fit. When you get it out just replace it. Too much of a pain and it does not matter if you lube it up. At least that was my experience.

It just highlights the problems with recommending gear. I have enough in the junk box already. And before anyone asks I don't have a clue about building. Used a nr-r-nr coil from FT, stuffed some cotton in it and poked the cotton down the side.

+1

There is nothing that vapes like a KFL (+/V2). They are truly unique and I've loaded up enough from FT and other sources to last me 20+ years.

The only other atties I consider on the same level or close, for my style, are the Erl nano and Spheroid V3. These 2 are on par with the KFL, for my style and taste. Loaded up on these also.

Notable runner ups that I also use often:
  • Squape R(s)
  • Phenomenon Lite
And the Nauti coils.

I'll try a new RTA if it has the attributes that constitute a good MTL (my definition) but the above is what I bank on and have loaded up on.

DingerCPA I've been looking at the Kayfun lites, they look like the ones for me :)
Hey @Skold,

If you want to try a KFL on the cheap here are the pieces you will need from FT:

$4.00 Free Shipping Replacement Base for 22mm Kayfun Lite Plus V2 & Kayfun Lite Five Pawns (Base (Kayfun Lite Plus V2), Silver) at m.FastTech.com
$1.52 Free Shipping Replacement Acrylic Bell Cap for Kayfun Mini RTA Atomizer (Kayfun Mini Bell Cap, Acrylic, Translucent) at m.FastTech.com
$2.26 Free Shipping Replacement Five Pawns Styled Chimney for Kayfun RTA (Chimney & Base, Five Pawns Logo, Silver) at m.FastTech.com

With that you can start dirt cheap and see if you like. Remove the top part of that chimney, you won't need that part only the barrel part.

Might want to figure out pretty soon because more and more KFL stuff is discontinued each week. Don't know how long will continue to be avail.

I just learned of these, and going to try one. They take the Nauti mini coils. I'm a rebuilder, but I like, and have heard good things about it for MTL.
$8.98 Vika Fantasy Styled Tank Clearomizer - 3ml / 1.8ohm / 316 stainless steel + glass at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
The Vika, the Kabuki and the Nauti 2 are my gotos for Nauti coils.
The Vika is a very smooth draw and great flavor. Cheap as chips for the clone also :)

I'm gonna order one of these today, along with the coils, and a couple spare glass tubes. They say shipping in four days, I hope so. They do take these coils, right? $7.56 Authentic Aspire Nautilus Mini BVC Clearomizer Replacement Coil Head (5-Pack) 5-pack - 1.6ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

If you want to pay with Paypal then order these coils instead:
$7.74 Authentic Aspire Nautilus 2 Clearomizer Replacement Coil Head (5-Pack) - 1.8ohm (4.2-5V) at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

They are the same coil in 1.8 but the ones you linked won't allow to pay with Paypal. Its a long story LOL. If gotta have 1.6 let me know and i'll tell you how to buy them and still use Paypal, its a bit more of a hassle.

Also, use the promo code "EGGBASKET" this weekend to get 10% off :)

e-Packet is probably your fastest method but may be a cost. You will see when checking out.
