Doesn't look like there's a way to push it in?

Top looks OK. Make sure that the base is screwed in snug...

This is probably a dumb question but are different types of wire that we us more conducive than others? Thereby making it "easier " for the ohm meter to read? I hope that makes sense. I'm super puzzled as, like I said it's brand new and I made sure all screws were tight and that it was adequately screwed in to the base...

I wouldn't put too much stock in the idea that new stuff is good. I've got tons of defective vape stuff.

Good point! This is the second time I've had this exact same problem. The first one I took apart for parts. Seems suspect to me, perhaps it's a common problem

Just a note: 'Conductive' is basically the opposite of 'resistive'. The coils we use for vaping are high resistance wire; the resistance creates heat - like the filaments in old time light bulbs and the heating elements inside toasters. Our high resistance wires are far less conductive than the wires that are used for plugging stuff in (like copper based wires for instance),

Yes, I have a separate ohm reader. It reads "non"

Take the suspect rba, with coil installed, and use your meter on the rba BEFORE putting it in the base. If it's still an open circuit (non, 9.99 or whatever), then the rba is somehow defective. If you get a resistance reading close to what you built, the rda is ok, and the problem is likely to be that the rba pin isn't making contact with the mating pin on the base.

I can't remember from last time. Clone or authentic.

Wow! I didn't know you could test a coil without a base! I took one that is working and pressed it into the ohm meter and got a reading!

No that's not your issue. Are you sure the leg wasn't sucking out and touching the surrounding chimney ? Because everything you're relaying sounds like a short. Especially given when the surrounding chimney is not on it's not having an issue. The chimney is so close to where the leads come out. I'm sure that's gotta be it.

Since it was with the stock RBA, the legs were trimmed nice and close to the screws

Well something from he inside is shorting to the chimney. Maybe it's leaning a bit or cross threaded when you put it on. Put the chimney on then snap a picture as close as you can from the top down.
