What does it mean when your coil keeps jumping around? Up to .60 , test fire goes to .43 and then back to .60 All screws are tightened (which usually solves this problem)

Some other connection is loose? Maybe the 510 to the mod, or, if still on the STM, the head to base connection.

Do people complain about nickel having a funny taste?

Some. I don't care for it, myself.

Check tge leads. One or both may be shorting.

Is it just me, or nickle's hard to work with for coiling because it's so temperature sensitive? I think I remember reading that at some point, ChelsB, is it possible your resistance is jumping around due to that? I don't know for certain, I just remember reading that you had to have a really good TC device to use it.... Also, I have heard, (again, I just read it and can't even attribute it) that being careful with nickle may be important as it can leach into e-juice with byproducts that aren't so great. I'd maybe ask in the coil building section? IDK. Just a thought...

I've not tried nickel wire however, I noticed an improvement (flavor wise) when I switched from nichrome (FT pre coiled) back to Kanthal (wrap my own). I'm sticking with the Kanthal. :thumb: Now what do I do with the several hundred FT coils that I have?

And for the disclaimer: YMMV ;)

I have a load of FT coils that I bought before I knew I could make them better!

I haven't done it yet, probably after I move, but I'm going to sit down one day and just coil up a bunch of coils so I just need to install them.

That's what I did. Saves time that way.

Interesting...I was under the impression that nichrome was lower resistance wire, but it's reading higher than my 316L wire of the same gauge.
Is this operator error?
I just checked a coil calc to confirm. Nichrome (N80) has a lower resistance than Kanthal A1, and 316L is lower than nichrome.
Nickel is super easy to build with IMO because it's so malleable, but it's easy to deform the coil when wicking so be careful when using rayon. Nickel has a super low resistance, I think a 7 wrap coil comes out to 0.15 ohms. I like the flavor as well. The reason why I use 316L instead is because you can't dry burn nickel, you just throw the wire out with the wick. Nickel doesn't Leach any bad stuff out unless it gets to over 700 degrees, so safe for vaping but not dry burning.
You didn't ask, but I found Ti to be a real pain to work with as it was very springy. You aren't supposed to dry burn it either but some do, carefully.

I dont recommend dry burning either Nickel or titanium

We get hummingbirds naturally in Tucson... We also get what look like giant wasps that travel at about the same rate of speed so it's a little hard for me to tell if I should be delighted, or appalled whenever I catch sight of one, at first. Those wasp things are... I don't even know if they sting, but they sure look like it. My husband said he saw one eating a tarantula once, so I'm assuming they do, and I'm glad I'm fairly unobservant sometimes, I hardly ever catch sight of that kind of.... well, animal kingdom adventures. :) THANK GOD.

But, my husband killed the packrat! Loitering around with the pellet rifle wasn't working, so he baited a rat-trap with peanut butter and there it was, looking dead. I hope its last coherent thought was, "This tastes so much better than jolly ranchers," and I'm also glad I wasn't up first, since one of my new recent get up things is to take out the garbage (super senses, I both love and hate you,,) I was glad the husband was up first, he looked at me, barefoot (I know, I know) and said, "Watch out for the packrat!"

RIP packrat, I will miss it chewing on the house in the dead of night. I asked the husband if he'd bury it next to our dog, but he said, "No, YOU can bury it next to the dog if you so desire...." He re-baited the trap, so if there isn't a family of them, I'm going to have to put my slippers on in the mornings now, I don't want to step on a rattrap while waking up....

Darned rats were taking bites out of my tomatoes this year, bought a few traps and got 3 of them.I stopped doing it when I found a robin in one.(Man did I feel bad about that)...Then came the horned tomato worm, they'll eat half a plant in an afternoon...Killed 4 of those. Then came the mice and I got 4.
Last year it was rabbits.
Still I got 10 bags of stewed tomatos along with 8 bags of frozen blanched beans, all in the freezer waiting for the middle of winter. :)
