Rebuilding the old BDC coil heads is easy.

there are notches for the two coil heads wick to sit in.

After the wick goes take the coil head apart and remove both coils.

wrap a coil and wick it trim to length. pull the coil and wick down till the wick rests in the top pair of notches. prime the wick and bend one lead over the bottom of the bottom of the coil head thread the grommet with the unbent wire. replace the grommet and positive pin trim the leads and she's ready to go.

rebuilding horizontal coil heads are much easier than building the vertical coil heads.

And you can rebuild even those. Smallish, but do-able. It's what I started out rebuilding :) Just have to be gentle with the dry burn, or you'll scorch the bottom insulator, and I've read they're getting hard to find...

Nope, not you. But a google search did come up with this thread:
A thread for any tank taking nautilus / triton mini coils - kabuki silo nautilus etc

It's the jig ...Any New coil builder who thinks...Ahhh, I don't really think I need one of those had better think twice...That little booger is an indispensable item in my tool kit...Trig

There were no "jigs" when I started wrapping coils. There were little screwdrivers, drill bits and paperclips.
I learned using a paperclip. (and yes, several attempts went directly to the round file)
    P1000883_zpsfoo3v1o2.jpg

and that's still the way I wrap my coils.

With the potential hazards involved if I got'a take it apart...
I felt that way until I had to do it, no way I was filing Jac in the round file after the unfortunate Erl vomit situation. Took it apart, cleaned it up, reassembled and good to go.

Invited an old friend of my husbands to dinner on Saturday night after I found out that he not only vapes but makes custom mods. Maybe I’ll be involved in making something just for me shortly! If not I still get to make something tasty, I love to cook for people.

Oh, and @ChelsB, I found my envelopes so SCREW YOU!

Need a little practice on my leads & spacing ...Trig

Nice coil! Spacing? Just wind a nice contact coil and stretch it a bit. That's what I do, anyway. If you watch Phil's videos (not this one), he uses his gizmo to make stretched coils--that's how I learned.

    Hello, @ChelsB !

Here's the short story...Got it on my 1st try...No leaks, No gurgling, Nice Draw, Great Flavor with only one small flub...Cut the 1st wick to thin and the tails to short...Didn't even juice it up...Just didn't look right so I pulled it out and cut another one...Bingo...Works like a charm...The other rather amusing discovery was that the pre-made coils I bought are wound Backwards...With the posts set off center the coil has to be wrapper in the right direction to put it in right side up...Fortunately I had a spool 28g Kanthal in the order so I just twisted one up !!!...A few pix in a bit...:D

I credit my early success to ALL of You Good People...And to my willingness to do a little work studying in addition to actually Listening to the valuable advice I've been given...I can be taught !!! :D...Trig

    Thank You !!!

Indeed...There is always that consideration...I would be all too easy for me to pitch an iStick 30...But on a higher value device it would probably be a different story...Trig :)

    Congratulations!

BTW: There are two kinds of coils--left-hand and right-hand coils. Most atties take regular left-hand coils, except for Erlkonigin (don't ask me how I know) and the OBS Nano, which takes the right-hand coils.

I started with those little blue screw drivers that came with virtually every atty.

on the Earl clone I had i used the normal right hand coils.

the Serpent Mini needed backward coils I simply coyldnt build the darn thing. the wire would fall below the screws so I sold all three on eBay before they pulled my listings

    Congratulations!

I take apart the failed mods just for fun. The MVP had the burnt electrical smell. The VV3's that the batteries go on I have put some thought about making them into replaceable battery mods with some kind of enclosure.

right now I am happy with my Kompact Kayfun.

I like having spare parts to last for years.

spare cylinders for the Erl nano. I I know Theorem glass tanks can be used. I don't want to worry about broken glass on the floor if it breaks.

Try the left-hand orientation. A tip I got from @roxynoodle

Really? Interesting. I don't have one. Still trying to decide between the Siren and the Ares. :D
For the future I just don't know...I am planning on a pair of Pico 25's so I'll be OK with the 24mm tanks...But If someone comes up with a 3ml version of the Siren 2 ???...And even in the early going it doesn't seem like the 2ml version is too much of a juice gobbler...Plus filling it is as easy as can be...Several Good Choices...:)
