Contact coils retain heat, and reduce the ramp up on subsequent pulls. They are also prone to hot spots and burning the wick at the center.
Spaced coils provide a more stable resistance read, and fewer (if any) hot spots.
Almost exclusively, I run contact coils on my mech and spaced coils on my regulated devices. ALWAYS spaced in TC.
