I think it's funny you mention that banner! I wanted one and a couple weeks after I completely quit I put one down there. I have been tempted to try a cigarette when at a bar with friends but everytime that stupid banner popped into my head and I didn't smoke because I didn't wanna break my streak.... Stupid banner, love it.

Thanks for the comments and advice.. its day 5 no smokes. I am doing great today! I have no urge. My vape is starting to tasfe better to. The first two days really are the hardest. After one week of smoke free I'm going to get my own banner :) I figure I would have earned it by then. I'm so happy I found my ego twist and such a supportive forum. All the advice has really made a difference.
I don't see myself smoking ever again.

Thanks for giving a damn guys..You have
help add years to my life.. ill keep y'all posted :)

That means you're on your way. When you start thinking, "hey, I kinda like this vape stuff", that's the path to, "what the hell did I ever seen in those cigarette things in the first place?" :)

That said, I gotta warn you, you're five days in right? There are weird periods coming. Frustrating ones too. Odd ball side effects and things that seem completely ridiculous.

They count over 4,000 (!) chemicals in cigarette (and other tobacco) smoke. Nicotine is only one. You've kicked 3,999 chemicals to the curb and only kept the one. There will be periods where your body is gonna go, "what dah huh????" as it adjusts. They're transient things. Lot of folks here "been there, done that" and can make suggestions based on how they dealt with it (often, the answer is, "grit your teeth, it'll pass" :) ). But don't be surprised if some screwy side effect sneaks up on you right when things are going great. Stick around the ECF. Tons and tons of experience here. Mountains of it. Whatever you go through, somebody here has been there.

If your avatar photo is recent, you look a hell of a lot younger than I am (I'm 52 in a month... sheesh, when the hell did that happen???). You could rebound a lot faster and get through the adjustment quicker. Maybe not even notice much of it. Except the things like increased energy and your taste buds coming back to life and all. You know, the good stuff. Though, heh, having your sense of smell return does sometimes have a down side. Like driving past that plant up the road I've passed a million times. OH. MY. DOG. I had no idea it stank that bad. :)

Wish this stuff had been around when I was younger. I started trying to quit in my mid-20s. My life would have been so different. If nothing else, I try not to think of all the money I blew on smoking. I always loved to travel and wanted to do Europe and such. Well, that didn't happen.

Heh, that's a thought. If you're young as your avatar suggests? Once you get really settled into vaping and start saving money (as in, I see you're in Texas, so you were paying the same kind of prices I was on cigs so I know there's a big, big difference in cost), you could start stashing away money you would have smoked away and save up for something big you wanna do...

Yeah, i'm 23, been smoking around 8 years. I spend 200+ plus each month.. compared to 30-35 for juices its a HUGE difference. I have a boat that i've been fixing up for a while, and I think next month ill finaly have enough extra to get it finished :)!

Still havent touched a real cig, and at this point I really don't miss them that much. I'm to busy anxiously waiting for my new flavors!

No real noticeable signs of physical withdraws yet, Besides frequent bathroom use!
Theres absolutely no negatives so far, only positives. All the water has to be good for the kidneys to :p

all the support really helps guys! Its nice to know im not alone in this. Its officially day 4

and something incredible just happened. i went the whole day with no cigarette, only a couple of puffs off of one in the morning that my girlfriend was smoking. It was a little hard don't get me wrong, i had to fight the urge, but as suggested I learned to distract myself (I would drive to the store and get a soda - while taking my ego, and leaving anything smokeable at home....I even cleaned the ashtrays out of my truck) and the cravings would subside.

I decided I would reward myself tonight and have a "well earned" quick smoke.
And something happened that shocked me, and im still in shock.

It was the worst tasting cigarette I have ever had. it felt like I was smoking dried up bubble gum from the sidewalk. I remember puffing on one yesterday morning and it tasted great.
I couldnt force myself to smoke it. I still "miss them" terribly, i have to admit. It just feels off without one in my hand.
Theres part of me thats scared I will never want them again, but theres a bigger part saying this is really happening and its amazing.

I'll keep you posted! thanks for all the of the support!!

Told ya! :D Looks like you are going to be another of the lucky ones. By the end of my first week smoking a cigarette made me light headed, woozy, I couldn't stand the taste or the smell any more. It was like a 30 year flash back to everything I "liked" about smoking my first cigarettes. It really weird - but accept this gladly!

p.s I wasnt aware how difficult breathing has been while smoking. I feel like i've been using an inhaler all day or something! I already have a Very noticeable amount of extra energy. Daily chores seem less draining, I feel more motivated (were all adults here? ) Even sex is noticeably better on both ends! lol.

 "...both ends!"? Ok... I'm not gonna other think that one. lol

p.p.s the only downside to vaping thus far is that it REALLY dehydrates you. Which i've been expectant of from reading other stories and posts. I carry a bottle of water everywhere, and the constant trips to the bathrooms can be annoying. I'm also worried that I'm vaping to much... im at 1.8% ( 18 mg I guess? )
I know i'm probably no where near the toxic limit, but should i expect any repercussions from the amount of nicotine im taking in?

P.p.p.s I cant wait to put my own "smoke free for xxxxxx" banner on as well :)!

Yeah the water thing is something we all have to adjust to. Drinking more fluids becomes second nature with time. It can be worse when you start as you may need to chain vape to get through the quit smoking phase. All this stuff settles out with time.

The problem with your question about nic level is there are so many variables that it's impossible to provide a clear answer. The absorption rate varies from one person to the next. How often you vape and your vaping style factors in. You can take two people with the same overall PAD smoking profile and for one person 24 mg liquids aren't enough while the next person gets bowled over by 24 mg and can barely tolerate 12 mg.

The things you are watching for would be palpitations, rapid resting heart rate, elevated restlessness or anxiety... stuff like that. If you aren't feeling uncomfortable chances are you are doing everything fine. "The whole schmoo" about possible things that can happen when you quit smoking and/or start vaping is here => http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/health-safety-e-smoking/3305-list-symptoms-when-quitting-tobacco-changing-ecigarette.html

But don't scare yourself reading through all of that or look for problems that you don't have. WebMD can be a really, really bad thing for some people...

Don't sweat your banner. When you are ready - that's when you are certain you are done with smoking - put 'er up! Banners allows you to put in back dated information. Like I said before - I didn't put mine up until 3 months after I had my last cigarette. I wanted to make sure it really meant something to me.

About banners: Find any one you like and click on it. For most of them that will take you to a web page to create your own. The code from that web page gets inserted into the signature settings on your ECF account. You do test posts in => The Sandbox to see if it's working. And if it isn't you ask for help here => Site Feedback and Help

Some of us are expecting to see boat pictures. Just sayin...

Just tuck it away in your mind that you've kept only one of the 4 freaking thousand (still boggles my mind) chemicals in cigs and your body still has a lot of adjusting to do. I got a month in and was getting fantastically better sleep. I mean like somebody had rolled back my odometer a good twenty years. When, wham, I hit a week I couldn't wake up to save my life. I mean, I woke up, got up, zombie shuffled to the coffee pot but got "stuck" in this "just woke up" sleepy feeling for hours. 'Bout two, three days in that week, I swear I could have napped every hour on the hour. It was nuts.

Then it flipped over the other way. Wide awake late at night, up earlier than I needed to be. Goofy stuff. Then leveled back off a while. But still, every so often, it's like my metabolism "wobbles". Like it's lost it's balance. Very weird.

Having trouble with it right now. It's 10:30 and I still feel like I just got up. It's annoying.

But just annoying. I get deep, great sleep. Better than many, many years. It's one of the reasons I went from "missing" cigs to "I ain't goin' back". That "getting older" nonsense? It really does muck with your sleep. Apparently, so does smoking. I can't do anything about that aging thing. Don't need something else messing with my ability to get decent sleep.

Up against all those miserable, failed "quit" attempts of mine over the years? If this is the kind of "side effect" switching to vaping throws at me, I'm good. All my quit attempts over the years are like memories of watching some horror movie. Some of the bumps along the road in vaping have been a pain in the neck but nothing like a "quit" attempt. Those were horrible. Just awful. And I always went back.

You hang in there. Even if you do hit a "bump". Simple human biology, our bodies can repair themselves better in our twenties than our fifties. You got a fighting chance your body will undo the damage all the way back to "non-smoker" level. Me, I've probably done some permanent damage. Still, way I feel now, I'll take what I can get.

Which is nothing to sneeze at. Last year, before vaping, I was starting to get a little winded just taking the trash up to the corner (I'm outside the city, the Austin suburbs to one side, longhorn on the other... so trash pick up is about a block up the dirt road). A while into vaping, I decided I was wasting money having a storage. Emptied the thing in two days. By myself.

It took a week or two before I stopped dead and thought, "Wow, that's different." :D

At a little over a month in, there are rare times I crave an analog. Usually it rears it's ugly head kinda subconsciously. But, I just hit my PV hard and it passes quickly. I'd put it in the "easily manageable" category.

Aside from those rare moments I am now at the point where I do NOT miss it AT ALL. Just this morning I was driving past the Wawa where I always stopped for analogs and I thought "this is so nice not constantly worrying if I have enough smokes". I'm also constantly happy that my car is always clean, clean, clean!

Great post i'm with ya man only you've got 3 days ahead of me, hope you can hang in cause ill be giving it up as soon as my kit arrives today.

its been almost a week now for me! The first couple days are rough rough rough... but like said once you accept that these things are replacing your smokes, you lose massive amounts of interest in them. Make sure to order lots of juice. Thats the problem im having now. I didnt realize how much I was going through and the bottle of my "all day vape" is almost gone. Waiting on a new one as we speak. Definitely make a post tracking your progress like this one. These guys here know their stuff and are very helpful / encouraging :)
What kind of kit did you get?

Oh and for the sex comment, yes I meant with my Girlfriend lol. It's been much better for both of us since my transition to vape. So much more energy! I won't go into details lol.

As far as my progress, I'm done with them. I can't hardly kiss my girlfriend because she smokes ( like maybe 3 a day ) but its such an offensive odor to me now. I don't plan on going back to them any time soon.

Good day gentle person,
I to have just begun (3 months now) to quit smoking .. 2 to 3 packs a day for 20 years..
I started this experience with a cheap kit from the tobacco store ($40 I think), the battery would not hold a charge so I bought another and it worked. It would last for 3, maybe 4 hours and need recharging. Chain-vaping I think they call it. Down to a pack a day.
A month later I upgraded to an eGo spinner battery looking for longer battery life. Down to a half a pack a day.
Last month I bought a provari and 2 protank ones. Down to a couple of smokes with coffee in the morning and an after dinner smoke and a couple of night cigs at 2 0r 3 in the morning. 5 cigs a day.
I did a bunch of searching on the web for some different flavors and strengths 2 weeks ago, found some I liked, (sweet tobacco, honey tobacco, orange, cherry cola, etc.)
My missus has informed me that I haven't smoked in 10 days now..
I still have my bag of loose tobacco and rolling machine in my office here at home but haven't rolled one for awhile now.
I only wanted to slow the smoking down when I started.. Looks like I quit... just for today...

Yeah you'd just make us old farts jealous and cranky. :D

(The two things I'd tell my 20something self if I could? Quit smoking, more sex.)

(I take that back. I'd add: "When it looks like Apple is about to tank, back the pickup to the investment house and shovel Apple stock in the bed fast as you can.")

saw your story the other day, glad to hear you are doing better/adjusting to vaping. every once in awhile I think some people get an urge to have a cig, that's normal it seems-but it sounds like you are doing great and are successful-hooray! smart of you to stop so young too-good luck!

ty! another day with no cigs, and no regrets!

I noticed a strange side effect today. I love love love spicy foods.
I took a bit of my favorite salsa today, which is a medium hot, and i could not eat it! It was soooo freaking hot!
I assume the vape is making my tongue more sensitive, or even the lack of smoking. Kinda sucks, but I can live with it :)

Annd i finally got my vivi rebuild-able working right. Just a little drilling and loosening of the wick. I get a burn every now and then, but a tip over fixes it. It seems to save alot more juice and power than my vivi nova or kanger.

You will get those moments. Has it happened with your sense of smell yet? In my second week I was in the kitchen doing the morning coffee routine. I took the lid off the can and was bowled over by "Wow! This really smells like coffee! It was only a can of Maxwell House. And it only had about three servings left in the bottom.

morning all

30+ year 2 pak a day smoker here , about a mo. ago a friend at work turned me on to an e-cig , sure i had heard alot about them over the past 2 or so years but never really jumped in feet first per say sure i dabbled a bit here and there with 1 or 2 of them but nothing other then try it and in the drawer it went . , so i checked out his , and i have to say i liked it . got all the info from him about it and went to the local store and got a starter kit . cost about $70 .
and did the DEED . and stepped off the edge feet first and put the cigs down , picked up my ecig and i havent had a cig in as of right this minute 10 days . and im Damn PROUD of myself . yeah some people say ...10 days thats nothing , but to me thats HUGE !!!!
yeah i walked the walk of the first ( 48 ) and that was bad OMG !!!! i suffered badly wanting and wanting but i didnt cheat , and hung in there , after the first (48 ) passed things seem to ease up quickly urges i mean , i then set up a reward system for myself i said ok , if i can go 5 hole days i deserve and earned my right to go to the store and buy a nice vaper rig like my friend had , glass and stainless tank , adjustable battery yeah it was nice and i wanted it . so i stuck to my rewards system and set my goals and now here 10 days later im still going :)
Got my new vapor rig , and 2 new e-juice as a 5 day reward . so far here in my 10 day i would have to say the worst is still morning coffee , but i gotta have it , working the hours i work .....going with out that mug in the morn isnt an option , im still trying to adjust vaping with morning coffee , but im doing it . currently got my new reward set , saw a few vape goodies i want , and considering in my area there are like 5 stores in a 10 mile radius there are alot of styles juices etc options out there so todays thurs , so by next tuesday , i get to go shopping for my next reward :)
yeah rewards are good ................................. but im not smoking and the way i see it , you want an old dog to learn a new trick you gotta reward him .......... and thats my incentive and its working 10 days in and counting . major proud of myself here . ive tried to stop smoking several times over the years this is the farthest ive ever gotten . :)
