You are exactly right. Here in Australia the government increases the tax on cigarettes most years. In the federal budget that was released last week, they announced they will continue to increase tax on tobacco by 12.5% every year for the next 3 years, which will take the cost of a packet of cigarettes to $40.

Ten years ago when I started smoking, a packet of cigarettes in Australia cost $10.

The government doesn't even pretend it's in the interest of public health anymore. They openly acknowledge the tobacco tax is being increased to raise revenue for government spending.
Right and they justify it on the cost of healthcare for smokers. I actually get that in a way. The high price as a deterrent hasn't stopped anyone though. It's just created a black market decreasing revenue even more. Loosey's, out of state, internet purchases, Indian reservations, roll your own loose tobacco...

What are they justifying the vaping taxation on? Loss of revenue to a life-saving device. Loss of revenue because of the black market they created.

The deeming regulations will put so many people out of business and work. It will make vaping more expensive than smoking even in the highest priced tobacco states. It's just ridiculous that in today's day and age this can still happen.

One would logically think Reducing this:

Would in itself offset much of this:
Exactly. Logically.........logic goes out the window when you have an agenda along with actual facts. There's so much money being lost though. It's just blatant corruption...

Seriously. I feel like I'm looking back on an event that could've happened in the 1950s where it was just blatant in hindsight yet it's happening now.

In response to those that wonder how Halo could get their lawyers up to speed so soon. From the blog that SalemGold posted: Desk of the General Counsel: Deeming Rule | Halo Blog

I expect that Halo and Covington & Burling have been preparing this action for about two years.
And I'll be a monkey's uncle if they (Covington & Burling) didn't have pre release copies of the final deeming regs to review.

Posted elsewhere... but it appears CC processors are now closing services
to online vaping sites:

Folks you had better get orders in fast from the looks of this !!

Hello friends.....I hope all is well. Things are not so well for MyVapeJuice.....my
credit card processor has just terminated my contract today...nice warning
hey...and without credit card processing I am done. So I am fighting but today
may be MyVapeJuices last day. They did this because now I am considered a
Tobacco manufacturer per the FDA and MC and VISA have strick rules about not
allowing tobacco sales online ever. So the battle begins and so far they have the
upper hand....but they have not won the war

Thanks for this, @Gene V

Excellent Forbes article. I'm going to repost this link elsewhere!!!

I realize that the URL was disabled here for the article , but would someone mind copying/pasting the text here? My browser has a pop-up blocker that I can't seem to shut off. If that is not allowed either, I would appreciate a PM. Thank you!

Fortunately all my critical orders have been placed. This of course does not help the Estimated 21 Million Vapers in the USA.:(

I don't know why the URLs are disabled for both web sites. Forbes article is a bomb indeed.

While I do believe accolades for Halo are in order... I'm more surprised there aren't more announcements like this from other major players. After all, Halo (and other's like them) really have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Their companies are either going to be severely devalued or deemed entirely worthless. I think too many in this industry are just hanging their hat on HR2058. I'm starting to wonder if more faith can't be found in the cigar folks. There are 30+ pages of the deeming that really irk them. One does not piss off a premium cigar aficionado.

I've done a search for the article, but it keeps linking to the Forbes site, which I can't access due to my pop-up blocker. The titles alone have me intrigued!

I have not a clue. I just parroted a post found elsewhere on ECF. COULD have
been resolved... COULD be at day's end... COULD be an advance notice of the
CC processor's intentions. I do not do business with them. If anyone here DOES,
they could write as a "concerned customer".
