I'm 19 years old. I got into cigarettes at 12 years old stealing my dads cigarettes, and by 13 I couldn't live without them. Last year I picked up vaping and I quit and I enjoy vaping and it's a hobby now. But when I was 16 I started getting physical, taking aerobics in high school and it sucked because of smoking.

If I had an ecig when I was 16 I would have quit 3 years ago.

wow, not old enough to quit (by way of vaping). thats a new one.
i guess one could argue "how hooked could you possibly have been in that short amount of time". but in all reality one never knows another's level of addiction.

Well, I'm 18, never smoked a cig in my life, but use low nic as a replacement for other things. Vaping has many uses!

you bring up a good point. i notice that my cravings for other things subside while im vaping. i cant say id push this issue too far, but you do bring up a valid point.

There is by no means any reason to sell ecigs to minors, especially that one, but perhaps through therapy appointments and prescriptions, it could make sense.

I think the stress of growing up has been so much more growing up in this generation than the way my dad talks about him growing up. I got addicted to the reason to step outside for 5 minutes in silence and just relax for once and calm down

If ecigs can help smokers relieve themselves off cigarettes, ecigs can potentially help non-smokers get into smoking. As for looking cool, the gadgets are cool, teenagers love gadgets. With all the articles and research that backs up vaping being safer than smoking, kids will find it even more attractive.

They can't ban peer pressure. Almost everyone I new that started smoking when I did was under undue pressure from others to give it a shot. Be one of the group. Are you chicken,ETC.:glare:

IMO if kids can get their hands on analogs to become addicted they can also figure out how to get the ecig. Heck, it would be ridiculously easy around here, most local e-stores accept wire transfers and ask no questions about age.

The only way a kid would be able to get it is that gas station with the old grandma working, or buying a visa gift card and using that to buy stuff and send it to a friends house who has crappy parents and give it to the kid.

did your parents go through your mail as a kid? regardless, that wouldn't be a problem since the local banks offer virtual prepaid credit cards and you can just have the mail delivered to the post office for manual pickup or to an automated package station. Come to think about it, its probably a good thing there weren't those kinds of options when i was growing up, my closet would have been full of rubber vaginas

i dont consider myself to be conservative-minded. yet, it still baffles me how childeren are allowed to consume mass quantities of caffeine. i see them at Dunkin Donuts ordering huge coffees with tons of sugar and cream, chugging them down.

sure i know that lots of kids are smart. some even smarter than some people who claim to be adults. but it still comes off as wrong.

My son is 13, and it boggles my mind that most of his friends chug down cans of energy drinks. He gets mad, because he isn't allowed to have them, but oh well. I'm actually quite surprised that there hasn't been age restrictions put on them, considering children have actually died abusing the drinks. My kids know I quit smoking, and know that it's a healthier option FOR ME, than smoking. But I've made sure to tell them they are in no way alright for them to ever use.

Selling nicotine products to minors is illegal, as far as I know. Edumacate me if I'm wrong.

I really don't know if it is. I think it may be a state by state thing. I think tobacco products are federally banned from being sold to minors, but not all nicotine products are tobacco products.

It's amazing how much the world has changed. I'm not THAT old, 40, but when I was in high school we had a smoking section for the students. Very few students were 18. I used to be able to buy cigarettes anywhere with no problems. We had some teachers that actually smoked in the classroom.

I have a son who is 16. It breaks my heart that he smokes cigarettes... I won't give him an e-cig even though he wants one and I don't by him cigarettes.. He does not live with me as I don't support his life choices- Long Story. My point is that I believe he would benefit from switching to e-cigs BUT I can't support him doing either. As a mother it's a difficult position to be in.

We had a teacher in high school who would dip out of class to smoke in the teachers' parking lot. EDIT: I also remember the middle school "teacher's lounge" having an ashtray and smelling like smoke (this was 1992).

When we were kids we pooled our money and bought them from the cigarette vending machine at the laundromat. How much you divvied determined how many smokes you got. To this day I can say with an honest heart I never knew how to inhale. I just "puffed" it into my mouth and blew it out. It made my teeth fillings hurt. It wasn't until I was 18 that I learned how to "inhale".

Heh, the school of knocks. Some hard, some ain't. G'night, ECF.

Because it's the only thing anti smoking zealots and vapers can agree upon. I don't think children should drink coffee either and my parents never gave me soda as a kid.

The problem of children using e cigarettes seems like a myth to me. In Oregon like many states, there is no law forbidding the sale to people under 18. However, in bold letters you will see must be 18 in every mini mart or only vendor. No one will sell e cigarettes to minors here. It has nothing to do with law.

I see vaping and smoking as two totally different things. So, if you're referring to non-smokers getting on e-cigs and going to cigs? I think that's HIGHLY unlikely. One, because to most people cigarettes are nasty. Two, they wouldn't drop the latest and greatest technology. Three, if they've never smoked cigs, got on e-cigs, they the hell would they have any desire to smoke? As for the articles and research, there's no way we can afford to make it look unattractive, even if we wanted to. In the end, it comes down to the individual, and if they're too naive to know the difference from right and wrong, then they can deal with it personally. Everything plays in, popularity, peer pressure, money, etc. It's just a ridiculous thing we can't prevent.
Now, if they are non-smokers and get hooked on e-cigs, then that's their play. In the long run, there's nothing we can do about it.
