I don't think that's what tchavel meant, but I have done that often... Heck, we have 1$ and 2$ coins over here! That's the only part I miss about smoking: getting rid of the bulk of my change FAST. The good part is I recently rolled up 75$ in large coins. I should really get a larger pot for those and use it for paying juice bottles and vaping equipment to keep the old habit up.
Yeah, the lowest bill we have is 5€ so in order to buy a pack for €4.15, I would need coins. Most tobacco machines only accept coins and those that accept bills rarely go over €10 bills so a €20 bill needs to be exchanged :)

Ahhh, I see. :) Learn something new all the time! Also, I don't think I've ever seen a cigarette/ tobacco machine around here that was still actually functional. (Probably showing my age-- or lack thereof-- there, though.)

Yeah, I was just sitting here wondering if we even had cig machines at all anymore. Seems the ANTZ have made them all disappear. But considering they always cost about 50% more than a store's price, maybe all the cig taxes just priced them right out of existence. Cheapest price at a store around here is about $5.70 (Walgreens), so a machine would have to be at least $8.55 just to warrant the hassle of keeping the machine in operation.

I guess bars might still have them; it's been 22 yrs since I've been in one of those, so I really have no idea.

I saw a $2 dollar bill yesterday. First time in a long time. The kid at McD's didn't want to take it and had to ask his one year older supervisor how to make change from it.
When I worked at McDs I would "buy out" the unusual coins or bills from my register. By that I mean I would trade all the foreign change, $2 bills or 50 cent pieces at the end of my shift. My managers thought I was crazy but I got tons of cool coins. Like 10 50 cent pieces and one that is foreign that is 7 sided!

Yeah, there are a few around. There is one at my local watering hole (I drink for medicinal purposes only), and the packs cost $7.50

Well now I'm the baffled one... You don't have government set prices on tobacco products?

A pack of cigs from brand A, costs the same on the counter or in a machine. Doesn't matter if the counter is at your local gas station or the machine being in a restaurant, the prices are pre set.

The government has set taxes they charge per pack but businesses can charge whatever they want.

And thank god for that; it used to be one of my regular pasttimes, finding who charged the lowest price per pack -- Walgreens is still the best, I think.

So glad I don't have to get pocket-raped on coffin nails any longer! Whoever mentioned that about the store wondering if you're dead... I've sometimes wondered if Walgreens thinks all those cigarettes finally did me in. :D My husband used to stop after work to get them for me, every other day; he went in recently for something totally unrelated, and when he got to the counter, there were 2 pks of Virginia Slims ultra-light 120s laying there... he said he about died laughing, and told them that his wife had switched to e-cigs, so he no longer needed the Slims. :thumb:

you guys get great prices accross the border. A cheap pack at the cheapest place I could legally find here costs from 6.40$ (for unsmokables) to 8-9$ (for not-so-well renown brands).

WHOA, UNREAL! ... I haven`t seen a cigarette pack distributor in decades!! Quebec was always way ahead of the entire planet with anti-smoking laws, though. First place to interdict smoking in restaurants, 30 feet from the door, in any public place, hotel rooms and mostly -the very first move about 30 years ago- interdicting pharmacies to sell cigarettes. People worried pharmacies would go bankrupt by the dozen, but that never happened.

Wow imagine what would have been the reaction of this kid if he found an old video tape or something like that. The reactions of kids are more bizarre the younger they are :D

Let me save your imagination some time and energy:

Then I must take a pic of one next time I walk by one... there are some really advanced ones, touch screen and all :D

Restaurants and coffee shops use them because of convenience mostly. 1st you don't have employees stealing cig packs, 2nd, If you miss charging a pack to the customer (can happen easily), you loose the profit of 10 packs. 3rd, if someone breaks-in, they take the machine which is insured by the distributor.

Like I said, prices are fixed by the government and so is the profit... one pack per 10 so most stores just have it for convenience and not profit. Remember that here in Portugal we drink expressos like water (actually more I think) so you have coffee shops/cafés on every corner... What is an espresso without a smoke afterwards? I actually can't remember entering a café and buying a pack of cigs without drinking at least an espresso lol.

Speaking of which... is there any e-liquid with cafeíne? Would like to cut down on that habit too but its such a ritual... dragging myself outside of bed, taking kids to school, drinking an espresso, going to work... unplanned meeting... another espresso... going to lunch... espresso afterwards, going to work again... break for an espresso... getting kids from school... dinner... another espresso... bed... ECF... sleep...

Thats a lot of espressos per day :D

Hmmm

Actually forget that thing about caffeine. I'm not hooked on caffeine. I can spend the entire weekend or more without it and don't feel anything special except for a mild headache in the evening... curious though... I'm a nicotine addict but caffeine makes no difference to me and I've been pouring it down my throat for over 25 years. I have some colleagues that get the shakes when they don't have their coffee and my brother in law gets horrible migraines which is funny because he hates coffee but has to drink an espresso once or twice a week against his will :)

Sure, but you guys have the most entertaining cigarette packaging ever. I remember the last time I was up there, I got this pack with all these warnings about how smoking WILL kill me, just by looking at them, and there was this great picture of a guy coughing up a lung while on a ventilator. Hilarious.

One thing tho, I don't understand how anyone can become addicted to Canadian cigarettes, they all taste god awful. I imagine licking a public toilet would taste better.

I get migraines when I don't have 2 caffeinated beverages a day. The good thing is, if I'm awake when they strike, I always get "Aura" 15 minutes to a half hour before any pain, and if I chug a cup of coffee, or any high caffeine drink, it goes away before there is any pain.

Please do take a picture. touch screen and still not taking bills?? We have it the other way over here with vending machines...

Caffeine headache = some level of addiction. Some only have headaches, some have the shakes (more advanced cases, usually). You can't not have some level of addiction to caffeine if you drink 3-4 espressos a day, ask my ex-boss. I even knew a guy who had withdrawal shakes and he usually just had 3-4 coffees before noon. Then he had to get 1-2 after lunch and that was the descent. He found tea to be very helpful in cutting down, though. Most teas actually contain more caffeine than coffee, but are less addictive.. I bet there is some scam there as well as in BT industry. After all... that stuff goes by plane rather than boat!

There are coffee and espresso flavor e-juices out there, though. I don't drink coffee (had enough addiction with nicotine), but the caffeine content is not there... could become a reality when people realize what's going on with coffee, however! I have predicted that once cigarettes become completely illegal, next will be coffee. At this rate, I might not be here to find out, though...

You were here before the one with the badly stroked brain or the one with tongue cancer that took HALF the pack front and back.... I actually kept pack slips of that mother with her daughter or the poor lady who was about 42 and skeleton like to replace the more disgusting ones like the black heart. Sorry for the graphics, but if you come here and need a pack, make sure you have a cigarette carrier in alligator skin or whatnot!

Depends on what brand(s) you tried. The cheap ones are god awful bad and you run great chances those are made by Natives. We actually think American smokes are way too strong in general, yet some people would like to get them from France (like smoking harsh coffee beans!). Cigs are definitely an acquired taste and it is nothing like different brands of Vodka (although you won`t get a Musky guy to sip Smirnoff)

No need to apologize for the graphics, I was quite entertained. As if I didn't know that these things could happen from smoking and if I saw it, well surely I would quit, LOL! I kept that pack for years until it got lost in a move.

US smokes too strong?!?!?

I found the Canadian ones way harsher, it was like smoking uncured tobacco. I think US smokes are way smoother and more flavorful, ... Or rather, i did.
