US classification of vaping

Which legal definition do you think would be most prudent to support to protect the long term future of vaping in the US?

New category. It's not a tabacco product. It's more like a nebulizer that asthmatics use to administer their medicine. Our (my) medicine just happens to be nic. Some no nic. If no nic u can't classify it as a tabacco product. Even with nic is far different (not even close) to a tabacco product.

I voted New, but I have no clue what that would be.
Adult Entertainment device. LOL (give it a sexy name and sell in adult stores and bars?)

I didn't split the device and eliquid in the poll, maybe I should have thought about that.

My view is that nicotine eliquid is a drug - not necessarily a new drug; the device and zero nic eliquid are not tobacco or drugs. To me they should be unclassified or a new category.

I'm not going to vote because I think US members should have their say.

Would have to go with new category. Not tobacco for sure, not a drug (well I guess kind of...I guess you could call nicotine a drug....but I don't feel comfortable calling it that haha), it needs a category....... I think our best bet is to come up with an entirely new category.

Smoking alternative would throw it in with the NR products wouldn't it? Or it would be seen as a way to QUIT smoking and thats not what we want either.

Uncategorised, because once people put a label on it they'll be judging the label instead of the thing itself.

Your the best Kate...Unfortunatley our reality is that it dosen't much matter what we call it...Its what THEY decide it is...However I think we should fight the good fight andkeep our fingers crossed...Ther are plenty of OTC drugs available and cigarettes cause more deaths than any 3 or 4 combined and they are not stopping those...the fact that Phillip Morris company is actually sponsoring the bill is almost hillarious and indicative of what our Government has become...If our ancestors were alive there would of been some hangings in town..Great thread as usual Kate..Keep um coming

Thanks Drew. I've been interested in US actions for the last couple of days because the upcoming court case might force some definitions and folk are rushing to support vaping. I'm not sure what exactly they think they are supporting.

I thought it would be interesting to see what the silent members were thinking about this too.

No matter how ideal "new category" seems, I just don't think it is going to fly.

I do know one thing -- if classified as a drug, we are in big trouble.

If most people think the idea of a new category is most prudent the that would certainly give our activists something to work on. I agree that it hasn't been considered much but maybe we can be the ones to put it on the table.

Aye Slea, maybe so but personally I think if we're going to fight we should be true to ourselves and fight for what we really think is right.

Even if it's a losing battle at least we'll keep our integrity and won't have been led like sheep by profiteers and politicos.

Well, I chose New Category, but like most others, I'm not sure what that category should be. It is definitely not tobacco, and I don't think it should be classified as a drug (I don't even want the nicotine liquid to be classified as a drug because it might limit our ability to gain access to it). I did like the idea of a smoking alternative for health concious adults tho. Either way, it's way better than smoking analogs, which is what people need to really see.
