I might just have a solution - For our solder fearing friends - And It is NOT going to require - "KILLING" a battery for parts. Hopefully I will be able to upload the whole thing tomorrow. I know - "What a Tease" :D
My Idea Bastage is a new way of connecting to the atomizer that "won't" require killing a bat for parts. Got to try a few thing out in the morning but will hopefully have a small video uploaded by tomorrow afternoon. If I don't pass out from Turkey Overdose. LOL

Well, that'll be interesting! The main reason I don't want to build one from a flashlight case is the size. I've got 2 3.7v 2500Mah 18650 batteries being shipped now, I see that they are bigger than AA so that rules out most conventional electronic devices to be used as a tube. One of the main concerns about my newest idea is that the battery wouldn't be easily replacable so...I can either make one too big or make a small one that needs to be torn apart and rebuilt when the battery needs to be replaced. Until I build a new one I'm trying to find the smartest way to do it to maintain small size and still be able to pop out the battery easily if needed. I think the 18650 battery as a power source is a good start. I'm really glad other people on the forum are also pitching in their ideas - I think it just makes this "hobby" better sharing these ideas. Someone could take my USB mod and say wow I like it but maybe this will be better... then it eventually turns into something really good. Lets keep it up. The better and easier to use my ecig is, the less likely I am to smoke cancer sticks. That's one of the main reasons I got into tinkering and trying to make the ecig more reliable and easier to deal with. Looking forward to seeing what you're working on madog.
How about an Altoids Gum Tin? Like this, I have built a few of these and they work great even to power the USB Cig - Without the circuit board installed the may house you Batteries and available everywhere.

The tin would need to be bigger to carry 3 batteries. I'm using 2oz Tobacco tins at the moment as the cable rolls up nicely and sits inside when not in use. I have 3 non-ground breaking ideas on powering up the adaptor, all three are based on manual switching so need a small switch on the adaptor like the way Bastage has done it in the past. The intial problem is those small switches can not reliably take the current (Amps) required to power the atomisor. I think I have finally settled on a very simple switching circuit. I agree with Bastage totally, manual switching deffinately gives better vape and is a lot more controlleable.

Ive already built a USB battery pack that I can plug my USB modded cables into. It's very small, consists of 3 AA's in series with a standard USB port and a mini port to charge. Charge time is 2.5 hours and it lasts a long time with the 2650Mah batteries. We went out of town today and I used it all day. The battery pack works great, but on the road the cable tied to the battery is a bit of a pain so I'm looking to make an all in one that I can just pick up and use without having to mess with a cable. For around the house, USB is great and I don't mind the cable too much. I have been using 2 different USB cables with 2 different kinds of tactile switches, haven't had a problem with either one failing so far. Both are working just as good as day 1. This could be built a lot smaller with a single 3.7v 18650 battery, or if you want a very long lasting battery you could put 2 of them in parallel. This works for what it was built for, but I think the key to having an all in one is the single 3.7v cell.

That sounds promising. I'd be really interested in seeing that. :D

I wonder if anybody would be interested in making a few of these to sell to those of us who aren't as technically minded as the rest of you.

PS I don't have a dead battery ( yet )
..or a soldering iron
..or a pair of needle nose pliers

..or the ability to use them..hehe

..I could get my hands on a switch from my CD drive though..now where's that hammer ?

they do 901's, penners and cigars. have not tested any of them yet though.

In a house.
If anyone has tried the BesEcig 901 USB attachment that DC links to I'd be interested in hearing their view.

Me too. I've looked on the Website and there's a penstyle as well but the shipping costs are double the amount of the thing itself and i don't want to spend money without a recomendation from someone. They cost £6.88 approx but the shipping is £15.04 so i don't want to spend £22 on something that might be no good. If the shipping was'nt as expensive i'd have one by now.:( I'm probably gonna have to burn the house down messing with a soldering iron and blowing up computers.

Also how do i edit a post after i've pressed the submit button too soon like i did with the last one?

I you look in the lower right corner of your last post (within a certain time limit of having posted it) you will see buttons to Edit post, Quote, or +Quote. Just click on the button that says Edit.

Thanks nicowolf
I now see there is a time limit.
To all who have been asking about the BestEcig USB i have gone ahead and ordered one so i'll let you know what it's like when i get it.
Must say they are on the ball. I had an immediate response from Beci Chen with a personal message not just a standard email response.
So far so good. :thumb:

the trick with ordering from beci is to buy in bulk. he even has some bulk items already grouped to make it easier for you. takes the edge off any shipping charge. also from dealing from him before, i can say he's a sound enough bloke and his site is secure to order from.

Well, one step closer to finishing my external powered e-cig. This is it. I love the irony of using a ‘Tobacco Tin’ . The problem is being able to use a very small switch which is not able to handle the current required to make the atomiser work. To this end I have added two components that allow me to use a very tiny switch.

A quick description – The Auto Reset Fuse is simply there to protect the 3 x AA batteries which supply 3.6V, measuring more like 4.2V off load. The Mosfet transistor is the main component that allows the use of a very small switch and the 1M ohm resistor is there to make sure the mosfet turns off when the switch is released. When the switch is pressed the Mosfet is turned hard on and allows the full current required to flow through the atomiser and the 5V led is there to indicate that power is there. When the Mosfet is turned on the Mosfet has an internal resistance of less that 0.01 ohms, the result is that the Mosfet has negligible effect, as if the atomiser was directly connected to the batteries. I’m using a 3.5mm stereo jack plug and socket to connect the cable which in turn is connected to the adaptor / switch that the atomiser is screwed onto.

I deliberately used a 2oz tin so I can store the cable when not in use
