National Geographic was bought out by Fox Entertainment Group last year. This saddened many of us because Fox tends to use its media to put for whatever agenda they are pushing instead of shooting for impartial truths and equal time journalism.

What's sad is that vaping is traditionally attacked in the political arena by Democratic lawmakers and now there are those on the other side of the aisle ALSO attacking it.

Which just really goes to show that when it comes to profit and power, neither political party in the US is actually FOR the population and mainly represents corporations and their rich lobbies.

I had no idea they were bought out by Faux News but it makes much more sense how a personal belief paragraph about vaping made its way into an article about human taste buds.

Hey, it's happening all over. The whole world is slowly being consumed by a very few super powerful corporations who will eventually run it all.

Where journalism takes a real hit these days is also in the lack of proper vetting of articles. In our instant news world, writers and journalists often don't do the research completely to check out the facts before they have to get the stories out and published.

The days of Walter Cronkite responsible journalism are long over.

It's funny you wrote that about wanting them to smell and taste as bad as possible, this weekend I was browsing through an issue of National Geographic and there was an article in there about sweets. While flipping through it a certain word jumped out at me and it was you guessed it "Vaping".

Basically the paragraph afterwards stated how the smell and taste of cigarettes was one of the biggest factors in keeping people (wrote teens) from smoking. And since vaping has sweet flavors it would be more likely the (wait for it) children to start using nicotine where if cigarettes were their only option wouldn't have.

I was disheartened to say the least I have always appreciated NG for the science based articles but that was the most ridiculous thing I have ever read in one. If the smell and taste were such a huge deterrent none of us would be having this conversation since we never would've started according to them.

I'm not saying that now as former smokers the smell and taste aren't motivators to not start back up, but the idea that it keeps people from ever starting is far fetched at best.

Very true. It was an *acquired* taste, exactly like beer and wine -- a lot of people don't like the taste of alcohol the first time or first few times they drink it either, but they persevere, for the buzz, or the peer pressure -- I didn't care for the taste of either when I first started, but I went on to smoke for 39 yrs, and to drink myself into years of AA meetings.

What total dimwits. The great flavors available are one of the best ways for us to insulate ourselves against *returning* to smoking, because it actually takes less time to *lose* the taste for tobacco, than to acquire it! At least for me, that has been true. After vaping nothing but the flavors of blueberry and strawberry for a year, I bet cigarettes would taste even worse to me now than they did when I had my relapse -- because at that time, I was vaping Virginia Tobacco flavor.

When I first started vaping, I didn't want to buy any of the straight tobacco flavors because in my mind I thought vaping something that reminded me of cigarettes would be counter-productive. Although I will vape some flavored tobacco e-liquid blends (peach, honey, what have you) the bulk of what I enjoy is in the dessert/bakery flavor category.

Op how about stopping and chatting to them maybe you'll help someone make the switch or at the very least manage to educate some of them, or you can carry on the way your doing right now and one day one of them will just get fed up of you and do something stupid. Since I started vaping I've not stopped any of the smoker's I used to smoke with continuing to smoke in my house and if I see them out and about I'm still happy to stand about chatting as they smoke and I vape, I knew a few former smoker's who became complete anti smoking zealots and I never wanted to become one. Most former smoker's that turn into zealots do it because they are scared and think if they are around smoker's they will go back to it and don't have the strength to stay the course.

You know... finding the smell distasteful does not make one a zealot. And while it's fine to speak to SOMEONE YOU ALREADY KNOW about vaping, stopping to talk to a total stranger about it, without invitation, could easily be taken for zealotry, and be found highly offensive.

Right next door to my building, there is a small bar that always has many patrons standing outside in the cold smoking cigs. I always have to pass this crowd when walking into my building.

I'm not a cloud chaser, and I don't sub ohm, but I am capable of producing some ok sized clouds if I need to, and lately I have taken to walking by the smokers that stand outside that bar, and just as I am walking by, I blow out a huge cloud of vapor, much bigger than all of their cig smoke clouds combined.

This is to clear a path for me, to let them know to get out of my way, and also so that I don't have to smell too much tobacco stink when walking by those people, as they are standing there and puffing on their cigs. I have found that this method works well!

I've done the same before, went out for a night of drinking, owners asked that If I was going to blow big clouds to do it out in the smoking section, my clouds weren't that big another patron was causing most of the fog ^__^ but anyways I complied, smoking section was packed, cranked up my device to more of a outside level and opened my airflow up(generally I'll turn it down out in public) and blew a few clouds, not in people's faces or anything but close enough they knew I was displeased by their behavior, some moved aside and made sure their smoke didn't blow in my direction.

Wow. Are you ever cool.

Someone point me to the grownup part of ECF please. I seem to be lost in the kid's section.

??? Please explain lol...

If I'm going to be forced to vape with smokers I'm definitely going to vape the way I like to.

This... and I fail to see how finding the smell of cigarette smoke unpleasant makes one "childish." Or tolerating an unpleasant smell makes one more "adult."

I would not have made it that far. Rather than irritate other Patrons I would have smiled and said My money is better spent elsewhere anyway. Good Night.

To each their own. ;)

Show me where I said not liking a tobbaco odour makes you a zealot, I never said or implied any such thing I said some I knew had gone that way and then gave my opinion on why. None of it was directed at any poster here and could only be taken that way by someone looking for a reason to kick off. Also there are members of this forum from all over the world and maybe in some places you don't interact with people you don't know but where I'm from complete strangers do often strike up conversations in places bus queues, doctors waiting room even in queues at the supermarket so what's normal or done in one place may not somewhere else.

It was the part about letting them know YOU were displeased with their behavior, when it was circumstances that landed you out there. Might have been worded wrong but came of very pretentious, especially since they were smokers in the smoking section what should their behavior been to suit you?

I guess that's just a difference in people, if I am out for drinks and am vaping if I get asked to keep it in the smoking section I will. And won't try to convince all the smokers there to keep their death clouds away from me while I'm chucking angel farts that are beyond reproach.

Tomatoes, fries from McDonald's and a myriad of other things people choose to ingest have nicotine in them in the amounts we're talking about do no damage to anyone it really isn't the cause for concern the antz would like us all to believe. Whilst I don't think it's OK to vape anywhere you want there does need to be clear sky between smoking and vaping, they have little in common.

And people who've switched to vaping neither want nor deserve to be lumped into the smoking section -- we went to all the trouble to get that stink out of our hair and clothes, and now we have to let other people put it back in??? I don't think so! I'll just stick to my hermit practices, and not go anyplace. When I go to stores, I won't vape, as I didn't smoke, but if I go out to a restaurant, I will NOT go around smokers; I'll walk far enough away to avoid the stink. Mostly I avoid restaurants though, as I've long avoided theaters; most restaurants' food is FAR inferior to what I can make at home.

Sorry, but I'm with Andria on this one. I've been vaping, exclusively, for over four years now. I can't handle the stench of cigarette smoke any more and, for that reason, I refuse to vape in "smoking" sections. Like Crxess said, I'll take my money elsewhere if a bar has a problem with my mod. Don't feel like coming home with that stink all over me. It stinks up the whole house for days!

And while I understand the "there's a better way to move through a pack of smokers in an alley", I hafta admit, there's a lot of appeal to clouding them out of my way, too! I've converted a few smokers, I was once a smoker. I'm not completely unsympathetic to them...but a lot of smokers are anti-vaping for no good reason they can give me. Those narrow-minded @__holes are the ones I'd like to cloud outta my breathing area!

Do I look down on smokers, think I'm better than they are? Yeah, I have to admit, sometimes, I do. I had the cojones to open my mind to a new idea. A lot of smokers (not all of 'em!) can't/won't/don't.
