First I thought how cool is Fuzznut, he is a scientist like analog is. (He loves his testing.) Then I thought (just for a minute) LOL How in the crap is he getting that to boil on a record? Then I figured it out. Man I can be so dumb sometimes.

Patiently waiting for the results.....

Haha, yes that album is "honky tonk hotplate" , it was number 5,384 on the charts in '04 lol

Here is the coil pulled from the carto that I boiled. Doesn't look good, the crud is sill there in spades.

I would be interested in the answer to that one....

Me too, I guess I am going to have to buy one. I'm surprised boiling didn't do much at all to remove the crud. I was a little leary of boiling anyway. It softens the cover adhesive and who knows if it's getting into the stuffing. That can't be good.

What if you added some vinager and baking soda to the water when you boil? And great pictures by the way.

I wonder if one of those sonic jewelry cleaners would work on cartos.

Star - I've read many people swear by sonic jewelry cleaners for the ease of deep cleaning and you can get el cheapos on amazon that people have documented other uses besides jewelry for. I'd link but I didn't bookmark it and it's been weeks since I read up on the cleaners.

As I remember you want one with a removable basket to make it easy to remove them and add more. I'll try to find the posts of amazon, but if you go looking try to find one less than 50 dollars that had a lot of reviews. Thats pretty much what I can recall right now.

I tried turkey syringe and pen grip and ended up trashing a couple of cartos. Too much suction. But cleaned ok.
Then did the boil twice for 15min method. Worked fine, but takes a little time.

I wonder if one of those sonic jewelry cleaners would work on cartos.
Then I did a little thread searching and found one about the jewelry cleaners. It works great from what they say, and does it in 9min. So I went down to Harbor Freight and got one for $25. It cleaned the wife's rings great. As soon as I need to clean cartos again I'll let you know how it went.

I'm sure it's going to work great from reading the thread linked above.

I'd like to see what the coil looks like after soaking overnight in PGA. Would you try that as well please?

Just ordered a sampler pack of juices so while I am waiting for them I thought, "perfect time to clean some cartos!"

Did the boiling thing twice. Then read on here that to speed up dry time put them in an oven at 170 degrees.

Rather than heating up the oven for a dozen little cartos I had the brilliant idea to use the toaster oven! Good idea, right??

I guess the readout on the toaster oven is not too accurate! After 1/2 an hour I looked in to see all the labels melting to the cookie pan! Let them cool off and not only are the labels trash, but the filler seems to have shrunk to about half size!!

So, in case anyone else is thinking of using this shortcut, DON'T! Guess it's time to order some more blank carts, does anyone know when the sale starts?? LOL
