I just had the most mind bogglingly ridiculous conversation with my brother in law.

He was over visiting my husband and I. Now, bless his heart*, my BIL is not the sharpest tool in the shed. He's read a total of one book in his entire life, I kid you not- the biography of Charles Barkley if I'm not mistaken- and routinely avoids any sort of possibly nerdlike behavior that might take away from his strenuous routine of drinking and playing video games and not working. (He's my age, 34, by the way.)

DH casually asked him if he'd heard anything about e-cigarettes, presumably working up to announcing that I've quit the cloves and switched to one.

"Oh. Yes, I know all about those! They're way worse for you than real cigarettes," he announced.

Cue a matching pair of utterly mystified expressions from me and my husband:

"It's the water in them. You can't breathe any water, it'll kill you," he elaborated.

About then I started laughing helplessly. I mean, he *is* right- you can't breathe water, it'll kill you! If you're face down in a swimming pool, I guess....

So I patiently (yay me, I need that patience with him *frequently*) started explaining that no, the (non water based) vapor in an e-cigarette isn't in fact worse than tobacco smoke and water has nothing to do with it. His eyes instantly glazed over and he stopped listening pronto. I frequently fail to do the "polite girl" thing and blatant ignore idiocy in my vicinity, especially with my BIL, which annoys him to no end. Oh whoops. Sorry! :glare: (I must admit after a long day of working with customers and *having* to bite my tongue around idiots, it's a bit harder to ignore stupid.)

"Oh. Well I guess the new ones might not be full of water." That was his brilliant conclusion. I gave up and let him go back to fiddling with the Xbox, which I'm quite sure was his goal in the first place.

Anybody else got some good ones to share with the class?

*I learned this expression from an elderly Southern lady I worked with. Apparently, properly employed, you drop it in front of an insult to sound a little less snarky

You're a better person than I am. My stupid intake valve doesn't release pressure.... I reach for the closest blunt projectile and throw.

I've heard the water one before too.. complete with an explanation about how I'd most certainly get pneumonia and then the extra chemicals because I'm inhaling that close to a battery would further the problem. This level of moronic FUD takes EFFORT. -Magnus

There are so many wise-.... comments flooding my brain right now it is drowning my brain!

ROTFLMAO....that's because you vaped too much water.

My Dad told me that I was vaping far too many chemicals (he smoked but quit with the patch but smokes while gambling..Mom too). We were in Atlantic City and I handed him my Buzz...I told him to hit the damn thing and stop arguing. Guess what, he vaped too many chemicals while we were up there also. Thank Heavens I had another Buzz with me...and plenty of juice. When we left and got back to their house, he handed me Mom's credit card and told me to order everything he needed.

I've heard the pneumonia one, too. I've also heard that they're filled with poison, anti-freeze and that the nicotine causes cancer. Let's not forget that your juice vendor probably doesn't sterilize the bottles before they put the juice in them. Heavens forbid that our juice comes to us in unsterilized bottles!

Yes! A once upon a time brother-in-law to be and the way he was coddled by his family. Imagine your dude only closer to 40 and in a high profile position of actual authority ! I will not say who was stupid enough to grant that authority.

Needless to say I sent them all packing....

Edit: Incidentally, with him it was the high plastic content of the PV that had him deeply worried.

Yeah, I got the "antifreeze argument from some kid at a feed store that thought he knew everything there was to know about everything. I was in there looking for USP PG for mixing. He asked me what I was using it for so I explained it to him. "You know that stuff is antifreeze don't you?" he says. So I just replied, "Yeah, I know. It's horrible! And to think that they put that stuff in baby food and asthma inhalers! I think it's the terrorists!"

There's terrorists in baby food and asthma inhalers?

The horror!!

The only thing in my juice that is a little off is the presence of the spirit of 1960's free radicals.

Well I have got the "antifreeze" comment many times, but I have never got the pneumonia comments. If I did, I would look at them like  in amazement. Not that there is water in the vapor anyways(well my DIY juices have a couple of drops). I guess my response to someone who says it causes pneumonia would be "I guess all those people who go to steam rooms and saunas have pneumonia too?" And "what about all those people who live in the south during the summer with 90%+ humidity they must get pneumonia too". is it just me or do some people just need to get hit with the stupid stick?

I must be the fortunate one because I dont have much to do with my family...ridding myself of all the toxins in my life as ordered by my dr. (this includes the family)

Also, these arent the norm around here. They havent hit here yet. Its just like fashion. It goes from east coast to west coast and then to midwest (where I am at). The only vapers I know around here are the ones I converted.

I love the comments made here though.
