In all honesty, generally dripping kinda looks sketch, a bottle of some liquid.... on to some device, and then blowing smoke out.... I've had some Japanese folk move away from me out of fear, and had a few outright ask me if it was drugs

I don't know if I want to vape anything that has a colorant added. But that's just me.
Assuming your vape gear was out of sight, in a drawer or your bags.... I would have had to ask the hotelier why the maid was going through your stuff. That might have gotten you another night or two or three...

this was my first thought too, then figured, well maybe it was on a table. OP glad it worked out well for you, but also hope the hotel owner takes some care telling folks he thinks have questionable habits to get out. That could be dangerous.
