I know the Bay area, too. Lived in Martinez, commuted by BART to the city, walked to my office building on California Street right next to Chinatown until the office was moved to Walnut Creek (CEO lived in Walnut Creek, what a surprise.......).

I've moved a lot; kids always accused me of not being able to hold a job.

Ahh BART... used it the whole time I lived in the BA. As kids, our summer "gift" was a BART pass and a bus pass - that's it. We were free to go wherever and did much exploring - used to go to the Lawrence Hall of Science a lot. As an adult I'd always use BART for going to see the Yankees at Oakland Coliseum and when going into SF. I had an uncle in Walnut Creek back when the city was virtually nothing except walnut orchards. I wouldn't even recognize it today I imagine. Seems we have some geographic overlapping Dan

Yessir. I actually had "expected more", but it was cool nonetheless. I've been all over the west side of the Sandias, I had the good fortune to work with someone who grew up in Sandia Heights and knew the mountain very well. Me, him and another friend would go out at least twice a week for some months... they had names for "trails" that aren't mapped or even trails - just routes... the most cool were the Icemaker (which I just went back to recently), 7 waterfalls, etc. We used to do night hikes all the time after work 8PM-2AM (especially in winter). Another cool "mapped" one is Agua Sarca canyon (accessed from Placitas) which takes you close to the Shield a "popular" rock climbing destination...

I've been all over the west side of the Sandias

Okay, so I know the hike to TWA is consdiered difficult, but I don't know HOW difficult. I have a back issue that is problematic for hiking (causes pseudo-clauditis); I need to take 10 to 15 minute rest breaks for every 20 to 25 minutes of hiking on moderate terrain, probably a significant degradation in the ratio when facing rough terrain -- haven't tackled anything serious since the problem developed, so don't really know my current limitations. Do I need to plan on making the hike an over-nighter? (as opposed to being prepared for an emergency overnighter).
