thread, someone mentioned a solder smell when running their car heater. I'm sorry to have to tell you that might be a very expensive fix -- it's probably really old, rusty antifreeze leaking onto the heater core. Replacing the core can cost a couple of hundred, but worse, if the antifreeze is in that bad a shape, a quick flushing and refilling isn't going to help much. You might be looking at rebuilding the radiator core and having the engine pressure flushed by a professional (and I don't mean Jiffy Lube). Some years ago, a friend of mine ran up $2,000 in mechanics' bills getting his fixed properly.
