Vaping can be more expensive than smoking

I am 2 months analog free today...and so is my hubby :). I honestly have not thought about the cost-savings or lack thereof, I just know that we are both analog free and it feels great! We feel healthier, hubby almost snores at a whisper now :) and he is not coughing up all that gunk!

I have enjoyed buying new batteries, trying different tanks, and decorating my ego hookahs with charms and bling. We started at 24mg, but within 2 weeks, we were down to 12mg. Are we looking long-term, no. This is working for us, keeping us away from stinky clothes/cars and our bodies aren't being lined with tar and the thousand other chemicals we put into them over the last 25 years.

I certainly am not going to get "real deep" into they costs, whys, ifs and all about vaping. Not going to put any pressure on myself or hubby about how long we will vape....just enjoying the ride :D

I am new and I purchased juice from MTV pretty good and pretty cheap If you buy 236ml it is $41 and I vape 2.5ml/day which equals 94 day supply at $0.41/day
I also tried an Ahlusion net at $17/30ml which would be a 12 day supply at $1.41per day
Not even close to the cost of regular cigs
Not to mention DIY

I guesss I will Vape on

Yeah I hear ya. I've spent way more vaping than what I would've spent on cigs. BUT, now that I know what I need and like, the scales will begin to tip the other way, IF I stick to the necessities, which is easier said than done when there is an endless array of yummy sounding flavors and awesomely performing hardware that I haven't tried yet.

But realistically, if you can manage to not be a victim of the "kid in a candy store" effect, you could buy an ego starter kit from fasttech for less than $20 and a 50ml bottle of juice for $8-9 and that would be enough to get you through a month, if you are a pack a day smoker.

I rolled my own analogs so that habit was very cheap. I can see vaping getting expensive. Especially with all of the cool stuff out there. But luckily my step son works at a Vaping bar so I do get a discount plus they let you try all of there flavors that way you don't have to spend a ton of money trying to find the one you like.

I have RYO friends who are poor and they've asked me about ecigs. I told them without a charge card and at times even with one, they would be hard pressed to save money by vaping. Anything they could buy locally would likely cost more and not satisfy. I also mentioned how the initial outlay would be way more. For them it would be all about the savings and it would have to be instant.

That's right, I said it.

$16-$20 a bottle for decent juice? This is getting out of control. That's between 52 and 66 cents per ml. At 3-6ml per day, juice alone can cost nearly as much as a pack of cigarettes. Well, at least half as much in most places.

If vaping is less dangerous than smoking, certainly it will end up costing more than smoking. That's business. It's not there yet, but it sure seems to be going in that direction.

I'm beginning to feel as ripped off and addicted as I did with smoking, as I'm paying more and more for something that provides no real benefit. It's like paying for television. I can't believe people, myself included, pay a business money to primarily be the subject of marketing.

Today, my pay television is going. Next, I need to start more carefully considering my vaping habit. Just a simple cost-benefit analysis. It's not easy, one can start to feel like a major idiot when considering how much money we shell out for things that provide us no real benefit and it some cases the opposite.

A nation of addicts from food to drugs to entertainment.

I completely agree... I spent at LEAST $200 Last month on vaping supplies.. as before i was spending $30 a carton from the indian smokeshop... But in the end i think whats better for my health? whats better for my children? & I really hate the way my husband smells after hes done smoking now... so i know i must of smelled really bad to people... so to me its worth it...

It can cost more or it can cost less depending on individual needs and desires. My desire when starting out was to stop smoking. Period. And damn the cost. If I saved money along the way that was just a bonus, but it was never the goal. I found some truly amazing vape machines and atomizers along the way that increased my costs but it was a choice I made with eyes wide open and in keeping with my original goal. Then the specter of potential legislation starts threatening the one and only thing that has ever kept me off cigarettes. So I countered with MASSIVE stockpiling of supplies and learned how to rebuild my own coils and make my own juice. As of today, I've spent a fair bit more than I ever would have smoking(and part of that excess cost is due to the fact that I live in a very low cost state for cigarettes). However, there's no need to purchase anything else the rest of my life should the hammer fall tomorrow(outside of pg/vg, wire, flavorings etc.). Eventually it will come to a savings point, just because there's nothing else I need and the government will interfere to the point that I'll refuse to buy under their rules. And that's cool. Saving money is always nice, but it was never an original goal for me.

Either you vape or you don't. There's all levels of conversation on ECF about the high prices of this or that. It's like complaining about the high price of a fountain Coke. Go to Walmart and get 24 cans for $4.88 and add your own ice.

There's hardware and juice at all price levels. Someone has to make money on everything we buy or it's not worth it for them to be in business. China has a lock on juice prices through volume and many if not most stateside vendors order some of their juice in bulk quantities from China labs. They bottle it and add a computer printed label. Not all vendors have juice labs. As the FDA cranks down on inspections and regulations, we may see more China juice re-bottled and sold in the US.

At least China juice gets some steeping time on the boat and more during land shipping.

OP, that's like saying "Since I gave up beer I am finding I am being ripped off by the vintage champagne manufacturers."

Yup, and I have nobody to blame but myself. Though beer is like soup, it's good for you. :)

It's not really about the money, it's that vaping will likely be more difficult to eventually stop than cigarettes. It's better in every way with or without nicotine.

Vaping is only as expensive as you let it be. I spent a little over $180/month on cigarettes. I have been vaping for a year, and I have never spent more than $180/month on vaping supplies. A couple of months have come close, but other months I have spent $20, so it all balances out and I am saving tons of money. I don't spend money on expensive mods, but even if I did, I could save money as long as I didn't do it every month. I enjoy expensive juices and cheap ones, and vape about 4-5mls per day. I'm not worried about the money at all.

I do understand what you mean about replacing one addiction with another. Now that I have been vaping for a year, I'm starting to wonder if this is something I'll do forever. No decisions yet. :)

If you want to save money, make a budget and stick to it.

If you waant a expensive mod, save up your bugeted money and get it.

Totally with you! How can you overspend if you figure out how much you have to set aside for rent, utilities, food, bills, and then you know how much money you have left over to spend on vape supplies. The only time I will concede the expense is at the beginning when you're buying your starter set up. Juices and replacing heads/clearos/cartos is part of the maintenance phase.

Problems come when you don't know how much money you have left over after paying your bills and you go on a shopping spree buying bling you don't really need.

If you want dirt cheap do this. Go to Wizard Labs and order some PG VG and Nicotine solution. Make some unflavored liquid to your personal specifications. Fill up whatever it is you vape with. The PG and VG will not clog a coil. I've been using the same cartomizer for over two months and it still works as good as the first day. It has a slight sweetness and excellent throat hit. Its the closest thing I have found to a real cigarette since cigs don't have much flavor. With my supplies I can make a 30ml bottle for .91 cents. For the year 2013 I have only spent $50. Got some new flavors and in the process of getting some glass tanks in a group buy for $8 each.

Vaping is really a cheap habit/addiction/hobby. You just have to settle on your device and start DIYing.

I think a lot of people tend to take the easy way out. It takes time and patience to learn to make your own liquids. It just depends on how proactive you are. I started with half my cig budget and have only gone over it twice in the last 18 mos. That was my first kit which was crap and the provari setup. I have quite a few mods and have learned how to rebuild my vn coils. All done on a budget and it can be done. After 48 yrs on cigs I am happier and I feel healthier. You have to chose to make a new lifestyle. You have to plan your moves in advance and stick with them. Always buy in bulk when you find something that works well and don't be afraid to tackle some new projects like rebuilding. It will save a bunch in the long run.

Every now and then I see statements like this, and I don't get it. If you enjoy vaping (or television, or golf, or whatever) then that is the benefit. Whether or not it's "worth" what you pay is entirely subjective. People pay hundreds for tickets to a concert that you couldn't pay me to go to. Are they being ripped off? Are they idiots? No. Because they think it's worth it to them. I think vaping is worth what I'm paying and more. If you don't, don't do it. If you do, vape on. I understand either choice, but I don't understand handwringing or guilt over it.

Exactly! It seems to be a matter of point of view. I've always subscribed to the theory that "Value = whatever a willing buyer is able to pay."

Definitely try DIY. I am at the point now that I like my DIY better than what I can buy. It takes some playing but be sure you get sour, EM or Cotton candy to spruce up your DIY. Some also use a drop of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to perk up DIY juices. Have fun and the savings are immense! You will save money! bnrk
