Hello ECF!

I have been lurking the forums since June and finally got around to registering. This forum has so much great information and is a wonderful resource to all. Thank you!

I have been an off and on smoker for as long as I can remember. Both of my parents smoked when I was growing up and I always fooled around with cigarettes. It wasn't until high school that I smoked on a regular basis. I did end up quitting multiple times but always craved nicotine and going back. So I can finally say that I smoked my last cigarette on July 21, 2013.

Being a half pack a day smoker at $14/pack in NYC, I have to say that I'm saving so much money...BUT totaling up how much I've spent on vaping has me second guessing.

Just like most noobs I ended up purchasing a cig-a-like kit to stop smoking cigarettes. Prior to ordering my Halo G6 kit with two sample packs of e-juice I picked up a disposable Blu. I didn't care too much for the Blu. After spending so much time lurking the forums, visiting vape store sites and watching youtube reviews I found myself quickly outgrowing the G6 kit. I wanted to try vv, different tanks, dripping attys and of course juices.

Over the last few weeks, I purchased a spinner and charger, a baby ego 350mah, Kanger mini pro tank II, T3 tank, CE8 mesh coil tank, vivi nova mini tank, the cutie by Jessy tank, 501 and 306 attys, rebuildable A6 atty, drip tips, and a boat load of juice. At this point, I have enough gear and juice to last for at a couple of months. At least I hope. My gaol is to learn how to rebuild my A6 as well as clearo heads so I can just buy juice.

So, when comparing $14 cigarettes and all the money I spent on gear and juice, it comes out to about the same. However, I have a ton of juice without having to spend another nickel for the next couple of months.

Are vapers saving money or is it a figment of my imagination?

Vlad

It sounds a lot like you're moving from the "Vaping is a Necessity" side to the "Vaping is a Hobby" side of the vaping spectrum, which tends to be substantially more expensive! Either way, in general the start-up cost is high and the maintenance cost is dirt cheap when compared to analogs, which is the trade-off that you take when you take up vaping. If you find something you like and you stick with it, you'll find eventually the total costs will go down, so don't lose heart!

Besides, they don't have Peach Mango flavored cigarettes, do they? I would bet money that most people think vaping is more pleasurable (and more safe) than analogs, which doesn't have a dollar value per se, but definitely contributes.

Just some food for thought!

I have to agree, while still new to this, the cost my partner and I have spent (or should I admit I have spent) we have not broken even yet and today's spending spree on a new kanger protank2 mini with some new juices I knew once I got home I was going to have my allowance taken away.
I think that once the setup is under control, the spending will go down. You gotta admit though - apple berry juice taste a helluva lot better than smelly analog. ;)

For me, the "I Gotta Buy It" syndrome has lasted about 5 weeks. Now I have extra everything and 6 months worth of juice ( cause I have to try everything), I'm calming down. Maybe a not so expensive mod later on down the road. You will probably want everything you see, I know I do. Give it time to taper off.:vapor:

I've spent around $250 in two months. So about 2/3 of what I would've on cigs. And I vape like a madman at 5 to 10 ml's a day depending on what I'm doing. And if I woulda stuck with the ego kit I started with instead buying new toys every paycheck, I could've spent far less. Haha.

I for one am saving money. It takes a while to get your set-up right and to find the right juice. Once you settle in and don't have to keep buying and trying the latest new thing that comes out, you will save money. Lots of money.

I was a 2 PAD or more smoker spending on average $360 a month on cigs. My average cost per month now is between 40 and 60 bucks and I am pretty much a chain vaper. At $14 a pack for a half-a-pack-a-day smoker, that's around $210 a month. You should be able to get by on 15 or 20 bucks a month with E-cigs.

Good luck with your endeavor and keep on vaping.

If I stick with a 'convenient' setup (buy coil heads and ejuice rather than building/making my own), it'll be equally expensive if not more than smoking. I go through a pack a week, sometimes it lasts a little longer.

If I go the DIY route it's probably a little cheaper.

I don't mind though, my goal wasn't to save money; I'm not going to go nuts and only buy premium juice either, but it's fun and basically like a portable hookah. That's what I'm in for. :)

I have been smoke free for 127 days.

I am probably never going to break even. Right now I am vapeing on a Poldiac with a Kayfun Lite. This morning I received my Provari Mini. I bought the Provari because my Vision Spinners both broke and both my 900mah egos met the same fate on the job. I needed something that was going to last at work. I still have my MVP and it works great but the button is held on with duct tape. I have tried lots of juices from Indigo, TVC and TPR but am still looking for that perfect juice. My ex and I started this thing together so I bought her a kit to get going. Then I bought my sister a kit as well. Then when I met my new girl and she wanted to start vapeing I bought her a kit to. I didn't start vapeing to save money though. I was tired of getting winded climbing a few flights of stairs among so, so many other things. All in all, I'm completly fine with the money I've spent and the money I probably will spend in the future.

I have been smoke free for 127 days.

I've been at it under a month have spent about $400 or a little more. I'm totally okay with that, I'm just getting things figured out and the setup I want and then it will just be a case of some juice and the odd atty. Will be saving money very soon I'm sure. I wouldn't even want to think about adding up what I've spent on smoking the past 20 years.

Im still at least $30 ahead of the game based on the savings vs analogs and ive still got plenty of juice. I buy juice and coils but my goal was to quit smoking and possibly doing it cheaper than nic gums which did not work for me before. I don't go through as much juice as some people ive seen post even though i can vape all day if i wish.

All I know is I had enough saved since January 2013 to buy a registered Arab mare back in May.(But I live in the boonies where you can get screamin' deals from people who are "Horse rich and feed poor"). So I'm happy and so is my Arab stallion....did I mention they're expecting? LOL!
The cost or savings, what really mattered to me was my health, bottom line. So it wouldn't have mattered much if the cost had been the same. If it had been more? IDK.

I think my "break-even" point is in the end of October. However, since I've found my perfect mod my spending has decreased. Somewhere around $15-30 a week. Still playing around with what juices I really like so once I get my top-5 or so, it will go down even more.
It just all depends on hitting your sweet spot with vaping. Once you do that, you can really hit a spending routine.
