I just read the Rolling Stone article linked by gerrymi. Just out of curiosity, has anybody here who has been vaping for a while started developed "popcorn cough"?

No.

vaping a bit over 3 years now, so not a long term observation.

I've read that the possible exposure from "suspect" flavorings is less than "permissible", but have no source to back that up.

In any event, avoiding flavors that contain those chemicals is a sure way to have no exposure to that risk.

I haven't had the chance to read the whole thread yet. But I wanted to put in my :2c:. I find that nicotine helps my "brain cooties". I used to smoke, was able to get off the cigs thanks to vaping. I think that vaping even helps me more than smoking did. I feel healthier too. But to me, it is definitely nicotine that helps what ails me. I can tell the difference when I don't have nicotine.

I rarely go to movies but went with familly to see the new Star Wars movie. I didn't go near the popcorn.

I had occaisional headaches in my younger days. Headaches now are so rare I can't remember the last one. My asprin bottle is full of mush.

First, I assure you that I am not a troll, so thank those of you who who supposed I am for contributing here, anyway. There's a lot to respond to (I probably shouldn't have waited so long to come back here.. I never realized that this many people would respond to this thread).

I'm about half way through the spring semester, and have been impressed with the effects of vaping on my oral delivery of my lectures. Thus far, I have been observing about a 76% decline in my 'pauses' and 'senior moments':) Vaping immediately before sleep seems to shorten my latency to fall asleep, although I acknowledge that this may just be a placebo effect. However, I am certainly not adding to my already existing insomnia by vaping at night.

I started using Vuse e-cigs, but the cost was quite high. I then ordered some UnFlavored nicotine base (48mg 75% PG/25%VG)) from MyFreedomSmoked.com) along with a Beginners kit and I'm vaping it undiluted (that's about the concentration in the Vuse product). This has been serving my needs well.

Also, I took a three week break from vaping over the break between semesters and I experienced absolutely NO withdrawal effects, which doesn't surprise me since there really isn't any reliable evidence that nicotine produces physiological dependence (I'll elaborate on this later if there are questions, but read [Google 'discover magazine nicotine'] for an article that gives an accurate assessment of what, and why, I believe the way I do... BTW, in the lab I could never get rats to reliably self-administer nicotine, even after infusing them with it for 90-days in anticipation of a 'withdrawal' response)

I have created a 19 kb zip file with 20 abstracts and citations related to nicotine and neurodegenerative diseases (mainly Alzheimer's and Parkinson's) but I can't seem to be able to upload it (Help please ... I 'Managed Uploads' selected the file from my disk, uploaded it, and then nothing happened... it didn't upload).

I find this fascinating - my mother used to smoke analogs and stopped at least 10 years ago at my urging -- I now vape - was a heavy smoker and she is now 81 and has mild cognitive issues - no other health problems - mild high blood pressure - no mediation - has any research that you know of shown that nicotine can help once issues have started?

Finding the studies themselves might take some time, but they certainly exist...
Study finds nicotine safe, helps in Alzheimer's, Parkinson's
A study of Alzheimer's patients showed that those who wore nicotine patches were better able to remember and pay attention than those who didn't. Another study showed that nicotine boosted cognitive function in older people who didn't have Alzheimer's, but were showing signs of age-related mental decline.

Thanks a lot. I have been giving her Vitamin D and I swear it helps - for a long time she thought she was 10 years younger than she was and we just let it go -- started the Vitamin D and one month later she knows her age - she has mild issues but I am thinking of having her vape a little each day - with the rate I vape - I should be much safer....lol

Will have been vaping for 6 years this coming March. No popcorn lung, in fact no cough period unless my sinuses are acting up and draining down the back of my throat, something that's been going on since I was a child. And, since at worst vapor has 85 times less diacetyl than cigarette smoke and they can't even pin bronchiolitis obliterans on smoking, I'm guessing the question is pretty much moot. ;)

I will post what effects of nictotine i observed
Before vaping i was very bad at directions (roads , etc )
Now with it i can navigate more easily the convoluted streets , and i dont feel so disoriented :)
Another thing i observed is nicotine and drinking
I drink 1 bottle of wine (12% alchool) in 20 minutes. When i got up the chair i was walking funny :)
I started vaping and in 10 minutes i was feeling normal again , i started an online game which requires fast thinking and reflexes(Dota 2) i performed the best in my team :)... and the diziness and intoxication effects of alchohool almost cleared.

When mosspa gets interested again it will get interesting again.

For whatever reason, I have not gotten notifications of any activity here since my last post until today. Interestingly, I was able to complete a small acute test on my propensity for nicotine 'addiction' this week. Since the semester began in early January, I consistently have been vaping about 45mg/day (about 1ml/day, 45 mg/ml nicotine in 75% PG... EVOD type clearomizer w/ 1.0W element). On Tuesday, I traveled to Columbus, OH for a R&R trip to be with old friends. Since I didn't know how to handle the potential problem of flying with vaping stuff, I just left everything in the car because I knew it was going to be a bit tight at the airport. So, from Tuesday at about 5:00 pm until Friday night when I returned at about 10:00 pm I was totally without nicotine. Not once in the three days did I feel any compulsion to vape, not even when I was imbibing alcohol (which I did quite frequently). I am now very much convinced that, for myself at least, I will never have an issue with any kind of dependence to nicotine. Also, by Thursday, I was experiencing a bit of mental clouding I haven't experienced in a while, experiencing several 'senior moment' episodes in recall of things when talking to my friends. While this mental clearing effect I seem to be getting from nicotine may well be a placebo effect, I know that it is an 'effect', none the list, and I have no plan to change my nicotine usage. Additionally, most of the administrative hurdles in doing the 'contents of flavorings' FTIR work have been cleared, I expect to get that research started after spring break.

Welcome back. I enjoy the feeling of nic in my system but I don't jones for it like I did with cigs. I haven't tried a cold turkey experience. Still clinging to my vape after 16 months.

You doing ecig related research? First I've heard of that. What more can you say about that? Anything to read online? It would be nice to have another ecig researcher I trust besides Dr. F
