Update!

Friend called me this morning to ask for more information about e-cigarettes, and where she can get one, NOW! :) Poor thing, she's really doing it hard.

I gave her a ton of information, the location of a couple of local (and not very good) vape stores, and offered to let her borrow a spare one of mine if she wants.

The word "cheating" never came up this time. :)
It really helps to have a support group (ECF filled that role for many of us) or a mentor...

I really don't see a difference between the two in relation to lowering cig usage. I don't want to get all medical or financial about it, but dropping all of the chemicals except nic is good for me. I started at 24mg and I am at 1.5mg. I often forget to even vape, if I am busy.

I only forget to vape if I'm reading a REALLY!!!!!! good book. :D

Really glad your friend is starting to be reasonable, Rose. Quitting smoking is such a worthwhile and difficult thing to do, we need all the help we can get, and it really doesn't matter how we get there -- just that we get there!

But don't tell her about WTA unless she starts struggling with vaping. :D Lots of folks do just fine with plain nic, since so much of it is really just the psychological thing... the WTA is the secret weapon when everything else is just not going quite far enough. ;)

Of course we are all cheaters. We have been accused by a elected representative on
the house floor of cheating the government out of taxes. Not of trying to live a healthier
life. We switched to dodge the taxes. The whole tobacco industry from BT,BP,government
agencies,Big medicine from cessation programs to cancer treatment centers and everyone
doing tobacco research thinks we are cheating them out of their birthright to run the show.
Do I fell like a cheater? Yes, and it feels good.
cheating tootle puffer regards,
Mike

That wasn't my motivation for switching, but it has certainly become one for stockpiling nic. They will never get another penny out of me in "tobacco sin" taxes.

Cheating eh... Well I worked pretty hard at cheating, and it was a lot more effort to learn rebuilding and DIY than it ever was to just pull out a pack of smokes and light one up. I'm about to rebuild two of my gennies this morning, and that's more effort than lighting up too. So to my mind the real cheating is smoking, and vaping is more like putting real effort into your own health.

No kidding! The very nerve of that :censored:, as if they're somehow ENTITLED to stick their hands in our pockets anytime they feel like it! As if just EXISTING means we owe them money!

I don't THINK so! I started "cheating" them out of money when I quit drinking; now that I'm not smoking either, I'm "cheating" them even more -- or better yet... THEY aren't cheating ME out of anything!

Every one of those lawmakers need to get REAL jobs! Where they actually have to WORK, instead of just sticking out their hands for taxpayers' hard-earned money!

She will be back to smoking in no time!

You can't say that.

Before vaping there were still millions of people who did quit smoking. And they quit successfully.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to do a more "cold turkey" quit.....its hard, but many people do successfully quit that way.

I myself quit for 5 years (about a year before vaping came on the scene) using Chantix. I had no side effects and yes, it worked for ME. I had a death in my family and picked up a cig and that propelled me back to smoking for a year. If vaping had not come along, I would have just done my quit again, but vaping certainly made it more COMFORTABLE. The point is, that my mind was set on quitting, and I was psychologically READY and willing to quit.

This "my dad is better than your dad" thing is sort of childish, IMHO.

In order to support vaping, does one actually have to phoooh-phoooh every other harm reduction / quit method out there? I think not.

I have always been of the idea that we are all here to help each other, and I see no reason why somebody who is vaping can't help and support somebody who is using the patch, etc. IF that is the choice the other person has made. It's all about getting off the stinkies, isn't it?

Or, maybe it isn't anymore. At any rate, I have no use for vape snobs.

I think vaping is great! I think it is the easiest way to quit smoking. Some people don't want to continue to inhale stuff into their lungs. Everyone has different goals and different paths and reasons for doing things and HOW they are doing things. A friend of miine just quit cold turkey, 3 years ago, he had heart bypass and simply DID NOT want to use any nicotine anymore, (vasoconstrictor).

Again, I'm 62 and the number of people I saw smoking out there in the world had declined markedly in the last 20-30 years.....I was the ONLY "baby boomer" I knew (personally) who still smoked back in 2004.....

I'm a happy cheating ...... One who no longer smokes.

I used to be a miserable cheating, still chain smoking ..... when I was strapping level 1 patches all down my arm and chewing nicorette like it was going out of style.

I'd let her know I'm using a cleaner version of her patch that can be inhaled.

Then every time I saw that lady, I'd take a vape, smile big like a clown, exhale and mutter "ah, now that's satisfaction!".

Follow that with... "so how you coming along with quitting?".

Sincerely;
Happy cheating man-......

I was able to quit for good, in 2006, because in addition to the gum and my pepper grinder--i made a 'lifestyle change'.
My divorce from a physically and psychologically abusive husband was finalised, and with the ink still drying on my Decree of Divorce--i was finally able to QUIT.
I can replace my nicotine in so many creative ways now, so different than back in 2006.
Cigarette addiction is so very complex, and roots itself so very deeply.
One of my worst triggers was hearing my (ex) husband's pickup truck pull into our drive.
That--and him shoving three packs of Reds at me when i was trying time and again to quit.

Lol. So no one has ever quit smoking without vaping? I'm glad there's lots of good technical info here because the "opinions" seem to be getting out of hand.

Deriding people because they won't vape while they're trying to quit? Really?

It almost seems cult-ish in here sometimes.

Here, have a cup of our wonderful and delicious Kool-Aid. Don't mind that it's blue. I think this batch was spiked with something from the distillery out back. Drink up, yum yum. :)

In seriousness though, I try to avoid disrespecting other means of giving up tobacco. What works for one doesn't always work for all. Plenty of us here are aware of that. We're simply happy to have found vaping, found it works for us.

I apologize for anyone who seems to be disrespectful of other means. Give the cosmos a beat or two, things will work themselves out.
