It's simple...

Go to a seven-eleven,

buy some cigarettes and a lighter

and BLAM!!!

There's your starter kit!

I remember being extremely overwhelmed when I first started vaping: "What do you mean Ohm's Law? Are you kidding me!"

But then, I got super into it... A little to much actually, ask my girlfriend!

Now when I hear Pbusardo saying stuf like: "HH 357 2.0Ω long barrel on a Provari set for 3.7 volts." I know exactly what he is talking about... That jargon talk sound pretty basic to me now. But it is still jargon and techno talk.

Do you think some people are so overwhelmed by all this blabber that they will turn away and keep smoking?

I happen to KNOW it is overwhelming for a LARGE percentage of people new to vaping. It was for me...and I'm not one easily overwhelmed. Nearly everyone I've talked to in person has said the same thing.

That is one of the biggest problems for beginners. The two biggest issues most beginners seem to have, is either 1) they are overwhelmed, or 2) they started with a gas station brand, and end up giving up on e-cigs.

The best thing any beginner can do, is come here for information. I try to recommend an ego twist battery, and an evod/cartos/pro tank for beginners.

Absolutely. I cringe every time they tell a noob to get variable voltage.

I have seen this to. Tell a noob to get a VV. Noob says whats a VV? There are alot of people here who guide the noobs well. Good for you.

We mean twist/spinner! , just dont say RBA .

What!?!?!?

I assume they can use a VV device. Just like I assume they can change the volume on a TV or use the heat-control knob on a stove burner. I don't think we should assume all noobs are....unable to fathom VV. That would be insulting to them.

I will add that a twist or spinner can help a new user cut through the question of which ohms to use entirely. Just start low and turn it up.

That is true, but then the people who understand the VV usually will ask a more advanced question? It is common to read what volts? That is some one who has been reading. Other than some one who just came in. Just sayin.

I think that, in short, we have to listen to what the new user is asking, ask questions and make recommendations based on their requirements as well as our own experience. There is no one-size-fits-all, idiot-proof, leak-proof, low-cost, do-it-all starter kit.

I stayed away from VV/VW or Mechanical Mods for a long while before getting a Vamo. The jargon can indeed be a bit daunting for a newbie, and it doesn't help when some people make you feel like a newbie and pat you on the head. I was happy with my eGo/clearo setup and still am, but sometimes I wondered if I was really missing out on something with all the hype about Provaris and RBA's and stuff. As of now, I still haven't gotten into wrapping my own coils until I research and study more, because I have an issue about messing up and blowing my teeth out in a rush to "get on the RBA bandwagon". :D I'm in no rush to get into stuff that some might consider "mandatory requirements" for vaping. We all have to start somewhere, right? :)

I switched to more "advanced" setups also due to having to fiddle around with clearos all the time, and not liking cartos too much.

My reasoning was that if I was to get a product that didn't work, I thought it was far better if I made the mistake than if I paid for it. I spent half the time I wanted to vape trying to un-flood or un-dry or un-leak my gear. Figured if I was to spend time, I might as well learn how to set up something that would remain tinkerfree for at least a month. Now I spend those 10 minutes (now 1-2 times a month instead of daily) making things better, not finishing the work of an underpaid factory worker.

Now I find clearos more confusing to figure out quirks than ordinary genisis style RBAs. I know what's wrong with RBAs, I have no clue what goes on when a clearo shuts down. End result --> I have to recoil either anyways.

Sorry for rant and off-topic. I realize I'm doing exactly what this thread is trying to prevent :)

Wish starter gear had better quality so it would be easy to say "Just get this" with no second thoughts.

No, vaping is just as easy as you want it to be. Go to the store, buy a disposable e-cig. That's your starter kit. Upgrade to an ego, buy a clearomiser, fill it and bam, you are upgraded.

Big tobacco will do more to drive people away from their products with their quest for profits over quality. By doing so, they will also drive more people to the good stuff.

After reading threw this I have to say I disagree with the direction of this thread. We have Youtube, ECF lots of other forums with lots of good folks offering to share their knowledge. VV is not as complicated as driving a car and negotiating threw traffic in most citys! Some of these post make vaping seem like rocket science. Granted if you want to do some of the neat stuff you have to do a little reading. The information is readily available.
Just because you have no interest in picking up some new skills or learning something new dose not mean its complicated it means you are lazy. There are exceptions some people are just not able to do some things for some good reasons but screwing on a Kanger and pressing a button a few times is not difficult or complicated.
When someone asks for advise about whats the best thing to vape no one is going to say a blu is awesome because its not.

Yes and No. I know that I will likely be stuck using either cig-alikes or Ego manual batteries due to the simplicity and the fact that I suck horribly at math let alone anything that has Ohms. I have wanted a Provari or even a K100, or a Vamo, but I would likely end up burning through them quickly since they seem kind of complicated to use. The batteries, the wattage, ohms, voltage ect...It sucks knowing that my husband will get to use all those billy club type systems while I am stuck using these. Then again who knows, maybe I wouldn't like one of the bigger mods. I do like the easier way out, I don't like to tinker to much with things, especially the e-cigs because they have something I cannot function without lol(nicotine), if it were an item I only used once in a while and was not in dire need to use it, I wouldn't mind it being a bit complicated because I could just stick it in the garage if it is to hard to use and not worry about it. To each their own I suppose, but I know I'd like to stick with the simple things.

I like it simple too. I have a gas station cig-a-like for stealth vaping and want to get a better one. I'm also terrible at math, yet use ProVaris, a Vamo and a Bobo (Sigelei ZMax) everyday. There's a big different between using a VV/VW device and rebuilding, wrapping coils and whatever else our electrically inclined brethren enjoy creating. Don't sell yourself short. You wouldn't burn anything up. It's possible for one to use a microwave and have no idea how it works, much less how to build one.

That said, you don't need a ProVari or a Vamo or a llama for that matter. I like toys I can't break very easily. I like things I can switch batteries in. I like going to 11, but I gets lots of vapor and TH from my Twists.

The fun thing about vaping is that you don't need math to understand Ohm's Law. If you pump up the voltage of your device to high... It's going to taste like crap! If its to low its not going to produce any flavor or vapor. Just find your sweet spot and Vape On!

All of these VV devices are protected devices so don't worry... experiment, you will not break anything.

One day maybe. I know if my husband upgraded first I could watch and learn from him and try my hand at a few things. I think for me, that is my best way to learn. My husband is an Mechanic/Engineer and has no issues with these sorts of things, plus he is patient and a good teacher. If I wanted a provari which I do in the future, I will have him teach me all the things I need to learn in order to use one. I'm a HAM radio operator and I still have issues learning Ohms, wattage, voltage etc...I'm new to it but I am learning. I like to get my feet wet a little at a time, I'm not much for just jumping in because I tend to drown that way lol. I have my Ego that I love and can use and have learned about, I'm content with that for now, but I am hoping to upgrade to a Provari at some point. I don't HAVE to have one...but it would be nice for home use, they look a bit more sturdy and the battery life I heard is killer compared to my 1300mAH Ego. Then I have the 650mAH ego which will last me 2 days battery, but I would rather tote that when I am out and about then use it as my daily vape. I'll get it one day, but I'm only 2 weeks in and I still have a TON to learn.

Make sure you set aside a block of time. It might take a whole weekend for him to show you how to to press the button correctly. (You don't need to know math! I'm a little old lady who can't deal with a smart phone, but could teach you how to use a VV/VW in under 15 minutes.)
