i had a couple things i noticed when i started vaping, and wanted to share them. If others chime in with stuff they notice and ways to compensate or fix these mistakes perhaps we can get this a sticky and help some new people out!
Biggest thing i have noticed is when going from normal cigarettes to vaping is how much i vape. what i mean is when you smoke a analog(regular cigarette) you tend to over smoke your PV(personal vaporizer). This happens because your used to taking 10+ puffs off your analog and eventually it burns down and you put it out. This dioes not happen with PV's. it will smoke until you reach the cutoff or the battery dies. As such you can go through a full cartomizer/ tank(the thing that holds the e-juice) in not time. Possibly even before the battery dies depending on what your using for a PV. I know for the RN-4081(smoking everywhere style, super mini...it has many names) the very general rune of thumb is your cartomizer will last about as long as the battery before it needs refilling, or topping off.
BUT..(there is always a but!)
when you switch from analogs to a PV ...in my humble opinion you should not worry about how much you vape, for the first month. This is so your mind and body can transition from analogs to a PV. Smoking analogs is not only a chemical addiction(the nicotine) but a behavioral habit. Your mind and body are used to lighting the cigarette then smoking it until your eyes get the visual cue of the cigarette being burned down. To help with this i cleaned out an ash tray and rested my PV(i use a rn4081) in the ash tray. again another mental cue for smoking. The reason for this was because how many analogs did you set in the ash tray and forget and then they burned to the filter? i will bet it was alot. doing this can help you slow your vaping.
now i want to add this, but i must emphasize a PV is not really designed to get you to quit, that part you must do on your own. here is how i got myself to quit, totally off analogs and a PV a couple years ago. Quitting is a personal choice i am only offering this as a method to help you do that. This is how i quit totally a couple years back. I only returned to analogs when i was severely injured and shortly after my wife left me and my entire life went to crap. I am following this course again so that i may quit nicotine again completely.
first month:
use your PV all you want as much as you want. this is the transition period so you and your brain can get used to a pv and enjoy all its wonders. I started with 16 or 18mg E liquid(it depended on where i got it and what was available)
Second month
pay closer attention to how much you vape and continue vaping as much as you like, were just building awareness of your habits with the PV this month. at this point i was using 12 mg or less. I also bought a bottle of 0 mg juice and mixed with the left overs of my 16mg bottles and came out with ROUGHLY 8mg juice(5ml of 18mg mixed with 5ml of 0 mg will net you roughly an 8mg solution) when i ran out of the 12 mg i swapped out for my 8mg mix
third month
I continued smoking the 8mg all month and did my best to slow my vaping when possible. I know if you vape 8mg but smoke twice as much it wont benefit you. This is the phase where you need to establish some self control and self monitor.
(you can go as long as you need in this phase of quitting, should that be your goal)
Fourth Month
This was my quit month. I smoked my 8mg till i ran out. I has pre-purchased some 8mg and some 0mg juice and again, mixed it together to get something in the neighborhood of 4mg. To do this you need to have enough juice so you have approximately a one month supply of some combination of 8mg 4mg and 0. Let me explain... the first week or so i was using up the leftovers of last months 8mg. the second week or so i was using the Approximately 4mg juice i mixed. the final week i began vaping the 0mg. now the timing may differ if you vape less or more but that is the general idea. You can continue vaping the 4mg/ omg as long as nessecary until you are ready to half the nicotine again or quit completely.
it was around this time i noticed something happening to my behaviors. i was forgetting my PV in the car, at home, at work, in my jacket etc... Shortly after i sat down with my wife and said hey you think im ready? she said yes and i put the PV in the drawer for about a week. I still had cravings for cigarettes for almost a YEAR after quitting. Seriously the random urge is a mental thing and a tough one to beat. You will notice times driving, after eating etc...where you reach for your PV or pack of analogs and your brain hits a speed bump and thinks "oh wait they're not there, i quit doing that" this is pretty normal and your not going crazy. if your married, have a gf, bf etc just make a joke of it and say "hey you mind if i stop and buy a pack of smokes?" their reply should be something along the lines of "not if you want to kiss me" or "no i don't want you to" something but keep it humorous. the reason for the laugh is it causes your mind to shift gears giving you a moment of pause.
so anyways theres my tips for new people. I hope it helps!
please if you have any comments or anything to add feel free! lets create a thread here new members can reference and learn about all the things they're going to encounter(in a general sense).
