I, too, have experienced those symptoms. I am currently seeing a doctor for it, whom has not determined the cause, yet. I would like to point out that I had these at the same time of the year, last year, and that was before I ever purchased an e-cig. I am rather curious to know if everyone else has these problems towards fall and winter, because that is precisely the same timing as me.

It's a valid thread. Sometimes when one starts a thread, if there's a period of time with no activity, one just sort of forgets about it, or moves on. I think the issues the OP brought up are worth talking about though, because he isn't the only one who questions the healthfulness of vaping, or what their particular issue with health, or lack of, could be due to (pg, vg, flavoring, over-vaping, etc).

It's too bad that experiments must be done before anyone can really know whether vaping is okay for ones health or not. And it's too bad that no one can know for sure whether or not VG and PG are harmful when vaped. Some seem to tolerate them better than others. So what's in them or the various flavorings that some can't tolerate? Nobody seems to know.

-----

Its just gotten to long and heavy, better to start another with some info if you have it, instead of people having to go through all that mud slinging..especially OP's....

well,

i read through the whole thread... (yes, i have far too much time on my hands), I think its pretty well agreed by just about 100% of you:

Yes, the OP has a right to say what he wishes
Yes, the OP should have gone to a Doctor ASAP after he first started experiencing any symptoms apart from his regular expectations.
Yes, the dissenters have a right to be frustrated that he makes definitive medical claims without definitive medical evaluation.
Yes, some people are very abrasive, both for and against the topic of the hour.
Yes, the OP almost assuredly suffered from all of the symptoms described (theres a very minute chance it was made up... )
Yes, Vaping IS healthIER than smoking for anyone who does NOT have a severe allergy to PV/VG or any other additive that may or may not be in their particular blend of EJuice(niccotine, flavouring or colouring)... and that is the gross majority of the population who vapes.
YES, Vaping is NOT 100% healthy, it is still inhaling a product/chemical/etc.. and that, no matter how inert the chemical might be, is NEVER 100% healthy.
YES, Kermit the Frog really is green (and a bit blue at times)
Yes, people did get personal and did some attacking.
Yes, the Anti-Vaping community would LOVE to use this account as propoganda to prove their case...
Yes, Propoganda is a two way street... anyone who tries to control how and what information is releaseed to the public is guilty of propoganda (a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position.)
Yes, quitting smoking and starting vaping at the same time muddies the medical waters and makes it difficult to truly know what is a symptom of quitting and what is a symptom of vaping.

does that soundly sum up the arguments? I believe so...

I simplified the points, excised the personal arguments and attacks and i think that just about everyone can agree that my points are correct... i don't actually think that anyone disagreed on any of the major points above... most of the disagreement was actually on presentation of information and personal assumptions... both in the case of the OP as well as in the case of several pro and con position-holders.

can we all get along now?

TKS!

Jay

Vaping is like any other drug, accept there are no clinical trials yet. For me, vaping has been a good thing so far, although there is a chance that I could one day experience the symptoms of the an allergy to vaping. I don't care however, because vaping has given me a new lease on life, and that lease is that I will NEVER go back to analogs. If nothing else, vaping has a psycholigical effect that makes vapers disdain cigarettes. OP, you got defensive too quick. You need to have seen a doctor before you can make those calls. What if the symptoms you where exhibiting where because you where showing early signs of a disease? It's possible, don't say it's not. Oh, and good luck with the nic withdrawal!

I haven't been vaping long (vaping since January 19th) I was a smoker for 8 or so years and stopped as soon as my 510 arrived at my door and for me it has already made me feel so much better than I did when I smoked analogs and I have not experienced any negative symptoms as of yet, only positive ones like easier breathing, more energy, better sense of taste/smell,healthier appetite, and more.I hope you're ok and doing well.I have not read the entire thread but did you see your Dr?

I haven't read every post in the thread so forgive me if this has been stated already, but as for the breathing problems after switching to ecigs -- when we smoke it destroys or puts to "Sleep" the cilia in the lining of our respiratory tracts. After not inhaling smoke for a bit, it will begin to regrow. It's job is to filter out our lungs. Usually there will be years of junk that hasn't been filtered, so when they do start to grow back we can tell by our need to cough up phlegm and junk. Sometimes this will feel like we can't breathe and we cough and cough up stuff. Also, an underlying asthma could have been unknown because of the effects of smoking to the cilia all those years you were a smoker.

Secondly, I've read that vaping can cause dehydration - and dehydration definitely causes muscle cramping. I'd go to a DR. and have him check my lungs (COPD or Asthma?) and also I'd drink lots and lots of water to see if that helps the cramping.

These are good points IMHO, and in my non-medical experience. I do think we should also note that as far as it seems that a good percentage of us vapers are taking in more nicotine now than we did smoking and all that extra nicotine can cause various heath concerns as well. I started out with 36mg juice and am slowly working my way down and will be happy when I got to a single digit nic level. Heck, I may just go to 0 and quit e-cigs as well, but right now my health is immensely better since vaping over analogs. I believe Laguna is/was having problems since starting to vape, but I think they are probably a combination result of stopping analogs and starting vaping. Neither of these are good for you. I think continuing to share experiences of vapers with regards to health related issues is important, but we really will have to wait for official and unbiased testing is completed before we can know anything for sure. Anyone who says they know for sure what happens to us when we vape is guessing just as surely as the next person.

If vaping is anywhere near as dangerous/harmful as cigarettes, I'll eat my hat and make love to hillary clinton.

First of all, EWWWWWWW, EWWWWWW, EWWWWWW!!!!!!

????????????????????????????????????????So many questions???????????????? I wonder if health professionals know about vaping at this point? I have talked to a few and they had no idea? Anyone? Do you guys think they could rule out vaping vs analog signs and symptoms?

This is a really good question. I think we all need to make it our personal campaign to educate our physicians if they don't know about e-cigs. Medicine changes daily. Drugs are taken off the market daily and added daily. There is no way they can keep up with EVERYTHING. They are only human.

The last time I went to see my physician, I was about 100 pounds overweight and smoked a pack a day. He could have cared less about the weight. He just wanted me to quit smoking, and even warned me I would probably gain 20-30 more. At that point, all I wanted to do was get the weight off and be able to tie my own shoes again (which I did.... yea!). If I had had the knowledge of e-cigs at the time, I probably would have tackled both issues at once. I don't know if physicians will ever "advocate them" per se, but they may offer them as an option if they know more about them.

As for the reactions Laguna was having, they may have very well been caused by the vaping. Who knows? My husband had a horrible reaction to 100% VG where as I can use it without any problem at all. I guess it needs to be taken on a person-by-person basis. Maybe there needs to be a thread category about possible reactions and/or side effects. That way, new vapers can share their experiences and get advice from others who know a little more than they do. Plus, if Laguna did truly completely quit vaping and smoking altogether, I'm pretty sure he's better off.

I know from my personal experience, vaping will probably be what saves my life and my husband's life. We just buried a dear friend (only 39 years old) a few weeks back who passed from lung cancer. He suffered horribly, and his children and wife had to watch it happen. I decided then and there I didn't want that for my family. Hopefully, eventually I'll be able to wean off of the nicotine completely (I've gone from 18 mg to 9 in just a couple of weeks), and possibly even vaping altogether. But for now, vaping is instrumental in helping me get the chemicals out of my body. I feel 100% better.

So, while I do feel the OP was possibly jumping the gun on the issues being caused by vaping since he hadn't seen a physician, I guess we need to keep open minds. I sure would hate for it to deter anyone from trying it though. I think it's going to be a livesaver for many more.

I agree. I had started this thread awhile back to get others feedback on their doctor's views. My doc just moved out of state so I need to see a new one now. Will be a good opportunity to get another viewpoint. My old doc enthusiastically approved.

Hello folks!

On my last post, when i said "Im done" (posting) I meant it. The only reason i am doing an "update" is because of all the emails ive received, from all the good people who were genuinely concerned about my progress.

Its been about four months since quitting vaping. The breathing problems, anxiety, and my face felling "hot", went away almost immediately...and have not returned.

The pain i was having in my "kidney" area, didnt go away, so i went to my doctor (as i said i would if these problems didnt subside) to have him check it out. It turnes out, I had a severley broken rib.

The way I see it, three of the four side effects I had, had everything to do with vaping...one of the side effects, had nothing to do with vaping.

During my doctor visit, I let him know how I had been vaping for about a year, and how it was a concern of mine with these problems I was having. He knew nothing about vaping side effects, nor if it was a safe alternative. In my heart of hearts, i believe it is a "safer" alternative, but far from a "safe" alternative.

Like ive said from the start, I am thankfull for the ecig for the fact I no longer smoke analogs, and without them, I would still be smoking. It will be many years before we know exactly what effect vaping has on our bodies. Until the "truth" of vaping is established, please listen to your bodies, as they dont lie!

I continue to wish everybody the best of luck, on your journeys to stay off analogs. It can be done!

Glad to hear you're ok and off cigs. However, how can you be sure the 3 symptoms you attribute to vaping were not a result of the combination of vaping with a broken rib? I'm no doc, but I have to believe a severely broken rib would affect breathing in some way.

I hear what you're saying about "listening to your body" and I do. So far mine keeps telling me it feels way better vaping than smoking and is not telling me anything negative.

How do I attribute the three symptoms being related to vaping? Easy. It's pretty black and white...I stop vaping and those symptoms go away, never to come back. Now if your looking for scientific proof, that vaping was the reason for these symptoms, it's not going to happen!

Well that's one simple way to look at it, but again, you're assuming it's only vaping when there is also a known variable of a severely broken rib as part of the equation. Seems to me the only way to know that it's all vaping is to try vaping with no other maladies.

I do agree though that this is not scientific proof.

I congratulate you on being able to conquer your dependence on BOTH smoking and vaping
You are a better person in many ways for both successes,
I am glad you found out about the broken rib, That has to ease your mind a lot. At least there is no kidney problems,

Everyone is different,
Smoking...vaping...smelling roses,,,,walking,,,,we are all different and will be affected differently by chemicals, actions, and philosophies than those around us,

I appreciate the warnings your original post should give us all. We should all realize that at best, vaping is the lessor of evils but still an evil even if only in that it shows our weakness and dependency,

Congratulations again on quiting and allowing yourself to be all that you can be.
And thanks for the warning<s>.

I am happy for the op as well, glad you are ok. I do also think it was a reaction to vaping. Was it the nic? the juice? the color? the flavor? Who knows. It is certain that not everything is good for everyone. Some have no side effects, some have a few and some just plain have them all.

Personally, I would rather be ingesting just a few chemicals that may be harmful then over 2000 that are KNOWN to be harmful. Will we all know eventually, yep. May take 20 years but eventually we will all know whether vaping is 100 percent safe, a little harmful, or downright going to kill you.

I as well have some side effects, minor wheezing (but had this on analogs as well) dry throat (yep known) leg cramps (i know they are dehydration bec my md did the blood work for it).

What really gets me though, is that I may soon be told, well because we dont know how harmful (if at all) e cigs are you are not going to be allowed to use them. Now let me get this straight. I am an adult of sound mind (though my wife may disagree), fully understand that e cigs may be worse then analogs ( though i refuse to believe that bec of the + changes I have seen in my self in 3 weeks) and I am not going to be allowed to make the choice. Last time I checked I do live in a free country. I know inhaling asbestos will kill me but if I do it its my choice. I know playing golf in a thunderstorm will most likely kill me but again my choice. Thank you to all those so worried about my health but it is MY health and I can worry about it myself.

Sorry for the little ranting, but I am soooooo mad that after all these years I have FINALLY found something that has me OFF of coffin nails and seems to be working better then anything else in the past and it possibly may be taken away from me because of ...... worried about what I am doing to MYSELF. They need to be focusing their efforts in other places IMO.

It's the thread that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friends. Some people started typing it not knowing what it was and now they can't stop typing it forever just because....

I thought there would be an end to it when the OP replied. (And you're all welcome for that song running through your brain)
