vaping has been out for a while, but studies have not been...
If teens are vaping in droves now, yet smoking rates for 20-25 year olds have not declined dramatically, it would be safe to assume these smokers started with an e-cig...

No it wouldn't. You are drawing a conclusion without evidence to back it up. Another conclusssion could easily be that the teens who are vaping had already smoked.

But it is progress. People were lied to about nicotine and its involvement with their smoking habits. The good tat can come from nicotine usage far outweighs any negative effects. Except for nicotine poisoning there are almost no negative effects for most people. People like to blame something for their shortcomings, and nicotine is an easy target for smokers. Unfortunately, nicotine has little to do with their smoking dependence.
Wrong. Case and point, a fifty billion dollar per annum nic replacement industry. This is just insufferable.

Yes it is a lucrative industry. If vaping nicotine helps people reduce their smoking then that is a good thing. It really doesn't mean all that much that it is just the power of suggestion, and the incredibly strong belief system supporting the notion that nicotine has something to do with dependence on smoking, even though nicotine does not lead to dependence (except in one's head).

Yes I can see that. They were smoking, tried vaping, then went back to smoking...

I vape zero and always will. Never smoked. Just like the flavor and the clouds. Though I feel I need to hide that here because i don't quite feel accepted in that I never smoked yet I still vape zero.
I am a never-smoker as well. I've never felt unaccepted here, though. Probably people think it's a little weird (like my wife!) but I like the effects of nicotine and enjoy the flavor. I vape 3 or 6 mgs and I get a nice enough hit. I've even considered upping the dose a bit.

There's no need to hide anything. I can't imagine a valid reason anyone would have a concern with an activity we all share no matter how we got here.

Vape on. Now, if you start putting sub-ohm tanks on hybrid-style mods, then I'd tell you you are playing with a real risk--though it would still be your choice, and I support you exercising that, just maybe not what you chose. But just vaping with nicotine? Hell, go for it! I wish when I began smoking I would've had the chance to start vaping. I firmly believe that had I began vaping first, I would've never touched cigarette. Vaping allows us to have our cake and vape it too! LOL

Yea, one of the benefits of nicotine is smoking through your trachetomy hole after your larynx and voice box has been removed because of cancer. Many many benefits from nicotine.

I hope that you are not trying to imply here that nicotine is carcinogenic? That was debunked many years ago!

I don't appear to be an outlier, for my generation at least. I went to my 40th high school reunion a couple years ago. As I mentioned above, most of my classmates were smokers in high school, and some remain smokers today. I asked those who quit if they had any difficulty in doing so. Those that quit within five, or so, years of high school (7) had no problems quitting, those that had recently quit (3) had great difficulty. Those that were in between (i.e., smoked from 10-30 years, were a mixed bag with those who smoked for a lesser time having less trouble quitting. This, and reading the smoking withdrawal literature has led me to hypothesize that, habit strength is insufficient to cause withdrawal symptoms after about 10 years or less of smoking.

I was a smoker for 37 years mosspa, am a member of the same generation you are and I completely disagree with your conclusion. A sample size of 10 and the undisclosed in between group has no statistical significance in this discussion, which I would have thought you would understand.

In my experience smoking is very addictive for a lot of people and it doesn't take long for that addiction to pass the point where we can stop smoking at will. The nicotine I vape now is mildly habit forming, but I do not consider it addictive. Habit is surely a factor in all this, but there is a huge difference between habit and addiction. Habit for me is a desire for a chocolate chip cookie or a vape in the evening. Addiction is feeling I have to smoke when I know that will kill me soon and not being able to overcome it with great effort.

If it were possible to recreate the throat hit some other way, then you believe his cravings would go away, without nicotine?

People here have looked for ways to simulate the throat hit but have not been successful so this is necessarily hypothetical.

My experience too :thumb:

Ok here it goes:

I started with a 12mg/ml solution made with my premade 0-nicotine ejuice and continued to vape throughout my entire experiment.
Keep in mind that my experience was probably also affected by all my expectations and thoughts on the matter, and so some placebo effect/self suggestion is probably at play too.

First draw, I now experience throat hit for my first time. Really unpleasant burning/irritation sensation, cannot understand how anyone would actually enjoy this. I coughed a few times in the beginning.
t+0:03
Not sure if this is working, I can't feel anything at all.
t+0:05
My senses seem enhanced somehow. I decide to walk to the post office to pick up a package. Very slight energy level increase.
I notice everything seems brighter. My vision is sharper (I am strongly nearsighted). Colors appear much more saturated, as if on an AMOLED display. Sounds are more vivid. Smells too.
t+0:10
For some reason I feel content, can't keep myself from smiling constantly, would probably laugh if it wasn't inappropriate to laugh for no apparent reason in public. Not sure if this was the nicotine or just me being excited about the novel experience.
t+0:15
I arrive to the post office. My thoughts seem clearer than normal. I feel more energized than before, more sociable than usual.
t+0:20
I walk outside, and decide to go to a nearby jazz exhibition. A Ferrari and a Jaguar drive by, startling me as sounds seem louder than normal.
Music felt much more immersive, sounding sharper than normal. Colors continue to seem more saturated than usual.
t+0:35
I begin getting a sense of overall relaxation and calmness flowing throughout my body and mind, replacing the earlier stimulation. I decide to eat some salad with fresh tomatoes, avocado and olive oil. Even though this is something I eat regularly, this time it tasted way better and was much more pleasant overall.

By now, I had vaped approximately 2ml or 24mg of nicotine in a little over half an hour.
I stopped as my tank was empty, went home and the effects gradually subsided.

---

Though I personally have a non-addictive personality, I really struggle to see how one would get dependent on this. Throat sensation aside, it had pleasant effects for sure, but nothing that lead me to crave more when the effects subsided.

After having tried both, I find caffeine to be a way harsher and much more powerful stimulant, though perhaps without the sense-enhancing part.

TL;DR:
Greatly enhanced senses, first mild stimulation then relaxation. Nothing major really. Much, much milder and subtler stimulation effect than a strong coffee.

Yea, one of the benefits of water is drowning in it. Many benefits from water.

Read as: don't ever drink water again because some people have died because of it.

Habit for me is a desire for a chocolate chip cookie or a vape in the evening. Addiction is feeling I have to smoke when I know that will kill me soon and not being able to overcome it with great effort.

If you have a habit of eating chocolate chip cookie(s) every evening, and not just a desire to do it (but choose not to), then that could conceivably harm you.

The idea that smoking will kill anyone soon is countered by all the ex-smokers who smoked for many decades, and are on this thread (or forum) posting about it.

Need to stipulate that last statement for the straw men, that this doesn't mean smoking is harmless. But does mean that it is not as highly dangerous as some want to paint it with a very broad brush.

Um, I'll take some of what this guy is vaping.

LOL
I think this was in no small part due to being a completely novel experience as my first time, and the fairly large nicotine dose. (From what I've read most people get about 1-2mg of nicotine out of an average cigarette)
