Personally, as a never-smoker, I have started vaping with the intention of getting a "quick boost" via nicotine, much like I already do with a double-shot espresso with lots of caffeine, when I need to throughout the day, in a convenient pocketable form factor. Which let's face it, is also kind of cool.
EDIT:
If anyone wants to form for themselves an educated opinion about Nicotine's merits and facts, make yourself a favor and read this: Nicotine - Gwern.net

I have spoken with several people like you who never smoked and vape with nic. The others said they haven't developed any craving for nic and can and do stop for periods of time without difficulty. What about you? Do you now have a nic craving or can you take i or leave it? I haven't read all the posts in this thread.

How about a lifetime of nic addiction. Is that worse? Not saying that will happen but. How about when he slides into a pack of Marlboro Reds, would that be worse? Like you say, nothing you can do. I am not speaking to your specific situation. I am speaking to the context of this thread. I have 3 kids two boys and a girl. The two boys both smoke.

"Slides into a pack?" So in this scenario the vaper would just turn into a smoker because they become that fiendish for nicotine? Hell, why not just say that once their battery dies the vaper (that never smoked) may even begin trolling the freeway to pick up used cigarette butts off the ground just to get his fix? I can totally see that happening...in an after-school special.

I can't remember, but how did we "slide into packs"? If I recall, it was because we just wanted to smoke, not because somehow the gas station ran out of candy cigarettes or Big League Chew!

I'm one who believes that nic addiction isn't something that needs to be taken to seriously at this time. My reasoning is that nic doesn't cause inebriation, or hallucinations and it doesn't cause the type of addiction that becomes a societal problem like other substances do. There are no Betty Ford clinics for nic addiction, it's not being dealt on street corners and it's not destroying people's lives. I truly believe nic, in proper dosages, is very safe for those who have no underlying health issues. I also don't believe vaping leads to smoking. I think vaping and smoking are different enough from each other to prevent that from happening in a never smoker even though nic is present in both.

Despite the extreme response and the already 14+ pages, this thread is only 2 days old.
I ordered some nicotine just yesterday, so it will take some time before getting here.

With that being said, I have already been using nicotine patches every once in a while over the last few months, and I have never experienced any cravings or withdrawal symptoms with them, in contrast to when I stop caffeine, after using it every day for a few days in a row. (with tea, coffee, etc.)

You asked
Are you doubting the evidence that nicotine has neurological benefits?

I replied
That nicotine has potential neurological benefits and it is still unknown whether any benefits persist over long periods of time or provide meaningful improvement ....nicotine has also been shown to have negative neurological effects on developing fetuses.
potential being the key word you conveniently always leave out and that nicotine has also been shown to have negative neurological effects *the other side of the coin you always conveniently leave out* in fetuses (and also long term effects on those children just as an FYI) ~logically nicotine consumed by pregnant mothers

You attacked with illogical nonsense in the face of an answer that did not go along with your fist banging generalization about nicotine
And when did fetuses vaping come into the discussion?

Making an argument while leaving out half the details doesn't make your argument correct by omissions 'just saying

And even if you did experience cravings, so what?!?! I've been vaping for almost 5 years and when I travel, I experience cravings for nic but that's because I don't typically travel with vape gear...no matter how long I am gone. And no, I don't go running to buy cigarettes because I don't have my vape gear. But wait. How is that possible? Oh, because it's not that big of a deal. Now, when I was smoker I didn't go to the mailbox without smokes, let alone out of the state or country.

I still vape 24 mg/mL during the morning and 3-6 mg/mL during the afternoon into the night. I love nic. I really love vaping. I can do without it, but I choose not to.

Haven't read all 14 pages either:rolleyes:..just wanna put my :2c: in....When it comes right down to it...I vape for the nicotine...it relaxes me..and takes the edge off...helps sharpen my focus when more coffee only gives me the jitters..I know I am self-medicating..but I used to do that with alcohol ...so far ..a few months in...I haven't noticed vaping ruining my personal relationships, causing me work performance issues or withdrawal symptoms, other than wanting relief which I would have sought anyway in more hazardous directions.
I don't see me totally giving up vaping, ..anymore than I want to give up my coffee ..or that beer or 2 a coupla nights a week. There was even an Amendment , the 18th..called Prohibition....but all that did was drive the sale and manufacture of alcohol underground. It didn't stop people from making their own, on threat of imprisonment, ..or stop people from drinking...It just made it illegal. I hope the Feds don't push it to that point. I don't wanna hafta become a criminal just because I enjoy nicotine.

My:2c:..thank you.

Absolutely! I was just adding onto how little addictive it seems to be for me.

But cravings themselves are really a non-issue most of the time.

Just like when taking days off caffeine to reset my tolerance and keep it useful for when I actually need it, I often experience strong cravings to have another cup of coffee or tea. But so what, I ignore it and in a couple of days, they're gone.

And maybe pigs will fly, get ingested into commercial jet engines, killing thousands.

It is safe to assume they will get ingested into commercial jet engines. This is what the federal government and all its agencies believe. So should you.

True, but they are doing studies.
Nicotine patches 'may ease Alzheimer's symptoms' - Health News - NHS Choices
expert reaction to study of Alzheimer’s and nicotine patches as published in Neurology | Science Media Centre
Nicotine treatment for ulcerative colitis
Medscape: Medscape Access

I have this study, cited a few posts above:

"There was no reportof subsequent nicotine dependence in never smokers who were treated with nicotine for ulcerative colitis, aphtous ulcers and sleep-disordered breathing [18,19,20,21]. The short-term effect of the nasal spray was also tested in never smokers, with no report of never smokers getting addicted to this fast delivery product [22,23,24]. In a previous survey, 0.3% of adolescent never smokers reported past daily use of NRT, but none was reported as being addicted to NRT [25]. In two surveys in the USA, 2.7% and 4.6% of school drug counsellors indicated that nicotine patches and gums were abused by adolescents, but these “NRT abusers” were mainly smokers who used NRT while smoking, and only 7% to 16% of these “NRT abusers” were never smokers [27]. The latter study did not report any case of NRT dependenceinadolescent never smokers [27]."

But that is not enough for you, is it? YOU are not buying, you do not want to hear the facts, but don't speak for everyone.
That's called willful ignorance.
"Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored." —Aldous Huxley

So it just so happens the large amount of teens who vape or have tried vaping are not the ones who start smoking later? That seems a little odd...
It would seem pretty odd to me if they did.

Exactly, no facts.
The debunking of all your posted links to all your bunk facts is a waste of anybodys time.
That's true because it you can't do it.

Sorry to interrupt the argument guys, but does anyone know anything about the effects of nicotine on blood pressure ?

Never had issues with high blood pressure when i was smoking, but the last checkup i had borderline high blood pressure. Bought a blood pressure monitor and have been checking at home. When i don't vape my blood pressure seems to drop to normal levels, but when i vape again my blood pressure seems to go up. I'm a little confused since i am sure i inhaled more nicotine when i smoked. It might be that i am getting older, but i see a direct relation to vaping as well. Is there anything else besides nicotine that might have an effect on blood pressure ?

It's one of the benefits of nicotine... I had mine up to 162 last night while riding a leg of the Tour De France on my exercise bike...

Thanks for responding but now I'm a bit confused. I thought you have been vaping with nic for a while already. The FDA approved patches and gum for over the counter sale BECAUSE they found it is not habit forming in never smokers. So, is the same true for never smokers who vape nic? It would be worth having an informed answer to that question. The answer would start with people who never smoked but are vaping nic. Are you one of those people?

The research is mixed as far as I know and I think it's one of those things that depends greatly on the individual (age, sex, lifestyle, etc.). Since I stopped smoking mine is, by the words of the doctor, "absolutely perfect." But, when I stopped smoking I also stopped doing a whole bunch of other stuff and also changed up my diet, dropped a lot of body fat and just left a stressful life alone.

Cute Steve, but i really would like a serious response or link.

Nicotine raises blood pressure. I thought everyone knew that...

The nicotine in cigarette smoke is a big part of the problem. It raises your blood pressure and heart rate, narrows your arteries and hardens their walls, and makes your blood more likely to clot. It stresses your heart and sets you up for a heart attack or stroke.

High Blood Pressure and Smoking: How to Quit

The activists will say the nic in e-cigs is special, or that it is the tobacco, but it really is one side effect of nicotine...

The nicotine in cigarettes and other tobacco products makes your blood vessels get narrow and your heart beat faster, which makes your blood pressure get higher. If you quit smoking and using tobacco products, you can lower your blood pressure and your risk for heart disease and heart attack.

See i didn't have an issue with my blood pressure when i was smoking, but i was also a lot more active when i was smoking too ( torn miniscus acting up ). The thing with vaping and my current issue with blood pressure is that i have been alternating days when i vape in the mornings and days that i don't. I then check my blood pressure at noon and on average my diastolic blood pressure number is 15 points lower on days that i don't vape.
