Vaping on or going back to smoking? Still undecided.

Quick update...

I would have done it on my original post if I knew how to edit it but, anyway, a quick update to say that today I received a few Halo mini tanks to plug onto my automatic g6 batteries. I wanted to try these even though they would make my cigarette look a little less than... a cigarette. I figured they could be easier to fill/refill and less guess work about how filled they are as they are clear.

First thing: extremely easy to fill and no more wiping! Very clean. So a great point for convenience. I filled one, screwed it on the battery and smoked away. Not one paper towel involved.

Overall, the assembly still looks somewhat like a cigarette. Something close enough that I can live with.

I also got a new pcc as I broke the first one instantly the first time I tried to connect a battery. So I am about to spend the weekend with two long (78mm) batteries in the pcc, an additional one in my pocket, two of these mini tanks and a small (10ml) bottle of liquid. If I can get through it with what I would consider such minimal equipment and not craving real cigarettes, I think this will tilt the balance towards vaping. Maybe even forever.

The replacements batteries for the Zeus are on their way to me but I have to say, these mini tanks seem to be so easy and NO mess that the Zeus doesn't look so good anymore.

Also, I have been smoking those liquids I found and they are just so amazing... yes so amazing that they really are contributing to making me a vaper or vaporer or whatever it is called.

I wish everybody a great weekend. Party hard, don't think about the next day and have fun.

It's great that you found something that maybe you can live with -- but it's not smoking -- nothing is on fire! It's vaping!

If you don't want to quit, I think it will create a resentment. I NEVER expected to have the same experience as I did with smoking, nor do I ever want to. I wanted to be able to breath, taste, and smell the things around me. I did not want to stink, I did not want to be looked down upon, I did not want to have to go outside. cigarettes are very disrespectful to those that they control.

Life is good in so many ways since I stopped smoking. I think I have grown up a bit..

Hi Frenchfry,

I am really glad to know it worked out for you to quit somking. It's true that I don't want to quit but, as I just posted, it looks like I could have found the right thing for me to vape and yet still think I am smoking. Time will tell and I will give updates on that.

It's true that the cold smoke smell is awful and I really would love to get rid of it. As for being looked down upon, where I live, everybody smokes so I don't have that problem.

Have a great weekend.

Davcav,

I haven't read the entire thread, so forgive me if this has been addressed, but wanted to share my experience with you in hope that it helps.

I've been vaping exclusively for the past 3 years. The equipment is vastly superior to what I had 3 years ago, so you are fortunate in that regard.

However, at about the 2-3 week mark of vaping (no cigarettes), I did experience some severe cravings for a cigarette. I was using 24mg eliquid, and vaped my head off, but the cravings were there. The truth is, cigarettes deliver a different form of nicotine, with different chemicals that make it more addictive, and contain other alkaloids that have addictive properties too. I almost fell off the wagon, too, but kept resolute as I really wanted to quit smoking.

You may experience this, or may be experiencing this now. My advice is to stay with vaping. Those cravings will pass, and pass relatively quickly. For me, it took about 2-3 days for them to completely subside. I never looked back at that point.

I had to find something to vape, at first, that reminded me strongly of smoking, or it never would have worked for me. But that sort of resentment is why I still keep that partial pk in a ziplock in my freezer -- without that, I feel coerced, and I resent the hell out of that! With that pk in there, it's all my own free choice, and I choose to vape. And everytime I have to get into my nic stash in the freezer, I see that pk (it's behind the box with my nic stash!), and I just smile and stick my tongue out at it. :D

I'm 22 years old almost 23. I started smoking at a young age-16. Since then I've smoked a pack a day and occasionally smoked a white owl cigar or a swisher sweet.
I decided I wanted to quit because I could hardly breathe man. I got a job doing concrete construction during the summer and it was wearing me out even though it's not that hard of work. Not to mention it cost $$ mullah to be smoking cigs and cigars like I was. Fed up with coughing up tar, not being able to smell a damn thing, tired of smelling like an ashtray everywhere I go, and tired of feeling like I NEED a cigarette soon or i'll flip out.

I tried to quit. For 3 whole weeks I didn't smoke a single cig and then it happened. I almost smashed someone's face in with a slege hammer. Decided I need to take a break and smoke a cig.

The next day I went into a vape shop and got a starter kit. Got a standard ego battery, a disposable vx clearomizer, and 18 mg blue berry voodoo e liquid and it was just enough to keep me from getting angry. It worked for me, but after a while I wanted more. The vx clearomizer would leak, can only hold so much e liquid, and could only put out so much vapor. Now I'm using a ivp mini and a Lemo drop and dude I'll never smoke a cigarette or a cigar again.

I Kinda miss how easy it was to smoke a cig but I sure don't miss all the coughing and killing myself. Not to mention I've actually save a lot of money.

I think you shouldn't give up. As for a good tobacco flavored e liquid man I do not know. Good luck.

A little update after the weekend experience... bringing me ever closer to think that vaping is going to be my new habit :)

As I stated in my original post, I am a (proud and stubborn :)) smoker and always will be in my mind. When I switched, all I wanted was for the experience to be as close as possible as smoking cigarettes. I was looking for good vapor production, strong throat hit, satisfying tobacco flavor, my nicotine fix, ease of use and (very important) look and feel of smoking.

After spending quite a bit of money and a lot of my time filling/refilling using all techniques (condom, syringe, dropper), frustratingly wiping and cleaning, dealing with defective devices, I finally found what is working for me so that I can keep on vaping while remaining a smoker at heart.

Device: Halo G6 automatic batteries (I have long and short ones) combined with mini tanks (quick, easy fill/refill with NO mess, no paper towel).
Liquids: Guevara (also Puros Dark) from House of liquid and La Rica from Triphammer.

That's it!

I used the pcc from Halo this weekend. It's ok but very delicate, very flimsy, got to be very careful when screwing in a battery. And my experience is that it will charge at best twice (not three time as claimed) a long G6 but no more until you have to charge de pcc itself. So for me, I prefer to start the day with six fully charged long batteries on me and charge them all at once overnight plugging them into a multi-port usb charger I bought in a local electronic store.

In summary, in my opinion, it is possible to have a satisfying vaping experience using cigarette-like devices if you still have a smoker mind.

I don't know what the etiquette is when posting in forums. Should I start a new thread with just the information above so that people like myself wanting to switch yet still wanting to retain the smoker behavior can get this from an original post and maybe save time and money?

A precision of importance: like many on this website, I have mentioned brands (devices and liquids), however, I am not paid by any of these companies. As a matter of fact, it's the other way around. I spent over a thousand dollars of trial and error to get something that seems to work for me.

Another note: In my short experience, I found that claims made by companies about their products performance (battery usage time, cartomizers cigarette-equivalency, pcc charging capacity, etc) are way overstated. It doesn't mean they are bad products but taking for granted what one can read about them on their websites can lead to disappointment.

One more note: English is not my first language. I apologize for any misspellings, conjugation and/or grammatical errors that could be found in my posts.

Well, that's a wrap! Thank you everyone for your contributions. I still can believe how responsive and generous you people are. Thank you so much.

Take care.

It comes down to 2 questions:

- Do you want to switch - or is it for someone else?
- Do you want a decent vape - or is it important to you to be holding something that looks like a cigarette or small cigar?

If you answer the wrong way on both of these, vaping is not for you. It's a better fit for someone who has stared death in the face and doesn't like the idea, rather than someone who wants a cigarette that isn't a cigarette and mainly to suit someone else anyway.

I didn't want to quit either, and it took me a year to do so. But since I got bronchitis without fail as soon as my cigarette consumption crept up to 8 cigs a day, and both my parents died from heart conditions that probably resulted from smoking, and my dad had a heart attack at 55, and I was older than that, and my lungs were showing the miles, it was time to at least give vaping a try, if only for 1 or 2 cig sessions a day.

So I got some 510 minis for out & about, and a couple of 5 volt boxmods for indoors where no one would see me sucking on a half-brick with a button. Plus the strongest, roughest liquid that I could find (and soon started to fabricate it myself). I had started smoking at 15, and while others who smoked at school then like me were smoking utralights such as Peter Stuyvesant, I used Capstan Full plains. By the time I got around to vaping, I smoked fat roll-ups made from a half and half mix made with Winston tobacco from torn up cigarettes and Drum rollup baccy. To describe them as strong isn't really sufficient, people 2 miles downwind were looking for the tyre dump fire.

For months, at home, I'd go outside on the balcony to vape, where I'd smoked, in order to keep the routine the same; in the car I'd vape to Nirvana at 60 watts just like normal; and smoke 2 cigs a day. And/or the occasional cigar.

Then it was 1 cig a day after about 6 months, the rest was vaping. I had no intention of quitting smoking.

Then for a couple of months it was 1 cigarette a week or so, whenever I remembered to smoke.

The I couldn't remember when I last had a smoke. I kept all the baccy and papers and stuff around though, just to be on the safe side (irony alert).

The I gave all that stuff away but it took me a few years to do it. I never had the slightest intention of quitting. Anyway that was a while ago. I'm still a smoker, as the occasional cigar with a glass of Calvados is hard to beat.

But you don't really want to quit, it's for someone else. On the other hand neither did I.

Have you tried the Blu ecigs? I don't really remember how long the cartridges were lasting me (I feel like it was as long as a pack of cigarettes, but I wasn't really counting the puffs, etc.), but their kit comes with a battery pack that charges your battery when you're not using it.

Heres the problem i found with vaping...
The ciga-likes, such as Blu were good, the fulfilled my psychological needs as far as replacing cigarettes. But the actual vapor, mouth feel, lung feel & overall sensation were just not satisfying. i had to break through to using the more powerful devices, i needed more vapor to feel that satisfaction that i received from a cigarette.

Thanks for your updates, davcav.

I posted early in this thread and just now revisited to see how it was going. The change from smoking to vaping is an individual journey we each take in our own way and on our own time schedule. You've done a fine job documenting your journey so far, so feel free to continue with future updates regardless of your successes, failures, and/or results. You got a pretty good story going so far. Here's hoping it also has a good ending! That's one of the great things about this forum, everything can go a long ways to helping others on their journey.

Good luck on your continued journey and vape on! :vapor:

Hi rolygate,

To answer both your questions, if I were single, I'd keep on smoking. I'm switching to vaping to please my wife. What can I tell you? I'm crazy about that woman :)

And yes, holding something that looks like a cigarette or a cigar is more important than the actual quality of vape. However, the stuff I use now is satisfying enough in terms of vapor production, throat hit, flavor to keep me vaping. Plus, now with the mini tank, I no longer spend what seems like hours wiping things. No longer feel like a cleaning lady.

The I gave all that stuff away but it took me a few years to do it. I never had the slightest intention of quitting. Anyway that was a while ago. I'm still a smoker, as the occasional cigar with a glass of Calvados is hard to beat.

Aaaah a Calvados! Love it too. "Un petit Calva" and a cigar. Those little pleasures we have in life!

I am really happy that vaping is working for you and gets you in a better health.

Hi OlderNDirt,

Well, I must admit that I already feel differently about vaping than I did at the beginning. At first, if felt overwhelming. Half my desk was crowded with syringes, bottles, chargers, cords, rubbing alcohol, rolls and rolls of paper towel. It felt like a lot of work just to have a smoke. But with experience, lots of things got cleared away and now I have a better understanding of what seems to be working for me. Clearer desk, clearer mind.

Finally, I'm starting to enjoy this new way of smoking... arrrgh vaping.

I must say this is an amazing forum. So many knowledgable people here and so quick at trying to help guys like me make the switch for good. Once again, I want to thank you all for this.

DavCav, one of my early issues was the lack of flavor in most juices. The cause was my tobacco deadened taste buds. If you find the right juices that are rich in flavor, that problem will go away and the tobacco flavored juices will kill the need for a smoke.

ITCVapes | Gourmet e-Juice Priced Affordably is a vendor that produces juices with rich flavor. Those vendors exist, but it's hard to find one that suits your tastes. ITCVapes juices are flavorful without any underlying bitterness or off taste. The good part is that you can get 50ml bottles for $11.99.

Find the juice that keeps you from going back to the smokes and you will be one more step away from total cessation. Once you find that juice, quitting cigarettes will be easy.
