I've saved money when compared to analogs, but i also used to chew grizzly tobacco and at 2 bucks a can spend more on vaping. On the other hand, i look at vaping as kind of a hobby too. I buy more than i need just to see my "e-cig" drawer get more stuff. I have twenty different juices just because i like to collect it! In reality, i only vape 3 or 4 different flavors but don't have the heart to throw the others away! For some reason, i feel like i need twenty spare attys and 10 ego batteries, along with different color ego cones. If i wanted to, i could spend a lot less money, but that would be a lot less fun!

I kind of went a different route. I started last year on smoking everywhere stuff and got fed up and quit. I noticed some of the technology improving as of late and said screw it. I initially bought a new 801 atty for an old battery I had and noticed that batter was not going to cut it. I bought an extended Ace battery 380mah with some 901's and thought "i can get used to this" then a work mate bought a mod and I said screw it again and bought a PS V3 3.7v with some LR 801's and am now in love and do not need to worry about what kind of ecig I use now, just have to find the right place for flavors. I bought a 60ml bottle of karma scotch to hold me over until I figure out this dyi stuff.
I would say I am more addicted to vaping than I was to smoking, lol. I love the flavor and the vape more than analogs.

Great thread.

I'm in my third week since I stopped analogs and I've spent a lot on ecigs so far, mainly juice but then there's the 3 510 kits, 2 PCC's, 2x 510 PT and one 5V PV-PT plus spare batteries, atomizers, cartomizers and a load of carts. I can justify part of it as I gave my father a kit, PCC, spare atomizer and battery plus most of the carts so actually I was spending for the 2 of us. Now comes the ejuice... I've easily spent a "few" hundred dollars in that. I have found a couple I like but wouldn't consider any one my "must have" yet. I have gotten a couple of 4oz 0 nic "doublers" for the ones that I really like that allows me to cut the nic levels. I anticipate the spending will go down once I settle on a couple of main tastes and suppliers. Until then I just have to keep reminding myself that at least I'm no longer smoking. And like buying a couple of cartons at a time (I ordered from overseas) I will have enough ejuice to last me a while between orders. And if I know what I like I will be able to also order in larger bottles which really helps bring the costs down.

Ok, now I'm ....... I'm a little over a month in. I've spent around $300 so far, but I think I've got the setup I want, and I've got enough e-juice to last me another month or more. (And I sold some of my extra parts to a friend to get her started, so I've really only spent about $250 on myself.) I was just about to place another order, and I'm looking to buy some different flavors of juice. I'm looking to see what other people like, and I run across this thread.

I'm laughing as I'm reading it, because this sounds just like my story. I found ecf early enough, but I've spent more than I had planned even going into it with lots of knowledge from this site. I can see it becoming a passion with me, for sure....

And then, one stupid word sets me back.

What is "steep"?? How do I "steep"? Do I really need to "steep"?

Sigh.

So I guess I don't know as much as I thought I did. OK. Let's do a search for the word "steep".

to date-->

$20 on original device from smoke shop
$20 on refill cartridges while waiting for orders
$35 for eGo
$25 for cartos that didn't fit
$5 on juices (waiting on them)
$.99 on adaptor for cartos that don't fit still
$12 for cartos that i finally am able to use
$40 total shipping

total almost $120 and i now need blank cartos and/or drip tips because prefilled just is a pita.

money saving right now seems impossible, BUT healthwise worth it so far, money saving in the end, i'm sure, once i start not getting crap that i can't use lol.

It's very true. But for me... actually what I NEED is an eGo set & some spare atties.. maybe a couple packs of cartos. But I've spent much more for other devices, atties, cartos which I WANT to try. And not to mention some e-juices. For my case, Dekangs juices are sufficient enough actually... BUT, I WANT to try some interesting juices along the way. FSUSA, TV, yadda yadda yadda.

So.. I've spent a LOT more for what I WANT, not what I NEED. This is an expensive hobby, but I'm glad I'm free from those stinking coffin nails.

wow...someone must have done some serious digging to resurrect this ancient thread. Since its out there I guess I could give an update: Since writing this post I have in fact managed to save money. Probably not much though because it seems every time i get a bit ahead, I buy a new mod. I've become a total mod junkie. A REO Grand, a variable voltage monkeyboxx, an Ali'i (all bottom fed mods in case I lost any of the new folks) a Pro-Vari, more ego batts than you can shake a stick at. But as cheap as the juice is, the ongoing cost of vaping is actually pretty dirt cheap, if only you have more luck controlling your equipment spending than I have had.:vapor:

Well, I saved at least 141.00 last night. The red/red Grand was calling to me, and I almost answered. However I do not need another Grand, Mini, or Woodvill.

I'm still waiting on a GLV-3 to arrive too.....but i'm done buying mods now I swear. I don't need any more either. (until the next "next big thing" comes out anyway)

Old threads are revealing, my first post here I wasn't keeping track of expense, just discovered the ego.

Since then went back to my CC receipts and did a spreadsheet, also started DIY juice and mods.
Both have helped the expense side, particularly the mods, and modders forum.
Now when I want a new mod, I build it... :)

Very funny post, and I'm glad to see it. I was a light smoker (4-6 roll-your-own per day) but had still developed a chronic cough. Now three months into vaping, I've spent more than twice what analogs cost me in a year, what with poor initial choices in equipment and juices that didn't cut it. Don't care, though... no more cough and I vape a LOT more than I ever smoked, 'cause it's so much more enjoyable. Calculated what it would cost me per year, vaping at my current rate, just for cartomizers and juices, and it came out to 1 1/2 times what I spent per year on cigs. Still don't care. Love vaping.

well yesterday was my ECF turning day. I've been here a year now and for kicks went back and looked at some of my old threads, just to get a sense of how i've progressed, how my thoughts on vaping and smoking might have changed over the last year.

It wasn't always easy. I had my slip ups where I took down an analog or two along the way. But after one year I can confidently say that yes, it is possible to save money converting from analogs to vaping. This too won't prove easy for some people. But it is possible. A lot of the dedicated regulars here on ECF aren't just vapers, they're hobbyists. MOD collecting has become a bit of a hobby for me, and if this happens to you too, then realizing some savings will take a while.

Like a lot of new technology, how we vape is constantly evolving. Another "next big thing" is always right around the corner, be it a mod, a new atty, a new juice additive (which personally i could probably live without) that makes the juice seem more effective.

Try to keep it all in perspective though. Your initial investment in gear will probably cost about the same as a carton of smokes did. Once you're decently outfitted though, your ongoing cost is basically just juice. Sure attys need replaced, batteries eventually fail, but those are occasional expenses, juice is really your only ongoing expense, and clearly its dirt cheap compared to smoking.

Hopefully the FDA will eventually realize, as we have, that there are HUGE BENEFITS of vaping over analogs and won't ruin things for us. Until they do, enjoy your new experience, don't panic if you break down and have an analog occasionally along the way, and don't go broke buying new toys....you'll be fine.

Yah, I've spent close to $300 trying to figure it out, now i know all i needed was a $30 ego setup and $50 in juice samples. Thats 8 days worth of smokes at NY prices and that would have been enough juice for MONTHs. Maybe throw in an extra attt down the road. This is why im such an advocate for putting up info on local stores where people can try stuff out and get guidance from real vapers before investing. Damn those no warranty LR tank attys, damn em.

i know how you feel about the "bomb detonator". it took me a long time to get comfortable going out on the town with my box mods. Most people can readily identify say a Joye eGo as being an E-cig, and they don't wig out about them. Box mods on the other hand, people tend to assume its either drugs or an explosive device.

If you would like to try something that is both a mod and small enough to stick in your pocket you might want to look at the V-Mod from vapage.com Its the one mod I found that easily fit in your pocket and still looks pretty cool too.

Good luck with your vaping journey!

it certainly is a fun hobby, but I've found no need to overwhelm myself with mods and such. The infinity has been perfect for me, though i'm actually getting ready to downgrade to somethign cigarette sized, because i really need the convenience of something that doesn't take up an entire hand and looks like a bomb detonator.

Never had much luck with the LR tank attys either. I pretty much gave up on the tanks. I really wanted them to be awesome but between blown attys and (what I perceived to be) less flavor than other gear, it just didn't work out for me.

I wish you the best of luck on your vaping journey.
