I didn`t mention my current build details. 30 gauge, 3 mm ID, 8 wrap spaced coil, 0.16 ohms, rayon wicks, 40-60 PG-VG juice.

I feel from some responses we are talking about different things so for the record this is the behavior I`m talking about. The applies to my Kebo Russian 91s only- I sometimes observe the resting ohms changing between consecutive draws and the dna switching from displaying temperature to displaying volts.
example install coil display reads - ohms .16 temp 400 TP functioning, hit it and occasionally no preheat, TP not functioning, display reads higher ohms and volts 0.00. Next hit TP may return or may not. I think something has caused the actual resistance to change and that change is beyond or outside what the firmware allows for Nickel so it decides the coil is not Nickel and disables TP.

My conclusion is some unknown gremlin in the Russian is causing the resistance to fluctuate. I suspect it is either at the positive block to center pin connection or the coil to screw head connection. It`s all as tight as I can get it with damaging things when I close it up. The screw heads that clamp the coil leads are way small, I`m wrapped 180 degrees around them but still not confidant they remain unchanged through heat cycles.

Air flow may be a contributory factor I do notice the R 91 sinks more heat then the magma the way I`m vaping them.

I appreciate all your replies and suggestions. I noticed a few peeps where having some issues with Kayfuns. The point I want to make is if you are having trouble try a different atty if you can. Then you will have an idea if the issue is the new DNA or the old Kayfun.

Best of luck :)

Sorry, didn't mean to come across defensive. I only use Kayfun's so that's all I can really go by. It does seem once the device and atty cool down it wants to work more properly, for lack of a better term.

No worries man we are all on the same sometimes frustrating adventure. :)

When I mention my search, above, I did a Google of "hard short Russian 91". The entire ECF thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ian-91-v2-irratic-resistance-readings-31.html is informative and useful, but pages 31 and 32 lead to what is, now, the final solution.

I had already done the FatDaddy positive pin fix 'cause I had (earlier) arc'd either the pin/post or ruined the insulator.

Bon voyage...

I'm running a GP heron at 0.15 450f at 20w and the rdna40 is a beast! Works as it should! My SquapeR is a little more finicky as it took me 5 or 6 builds to get it working perfect! Once I got the juice to feed properly, I haven't had an issue.. My Erlkonigin works perfectly and was easy to dial in also.. I think every aspect of the build has to be perfect, coiling, wicking airflow,etc.,etc. The squape R is probably the easiest to build, yet gave me the most problems, for a minute I thought I had a wonky board. Anywho, I'm in Ohio and it's cold and my Rdna40 works perfect, even outside! Will be ordering a second maybe a 3rd device on cyber Monday! Hope everyone is enjoying there day off!:toast:

They shipped 3 days after I ordered. I got mine 9 days after ordering. 1 day late because of USPS.

If anyone has ordered their vaporshark the last few days ago. How long does shipping take?

Based on the fact that many (including me) are ordering on Monday with the 20% off, God only knows how long shipping will take.:)

Have they got all the bad Evolve chips out of rotation yet? Also, how is building with the nickel wire? Is the resistance so low that you have to jack up the watts, which would reduce the battery life? I build around 1.2-1.5 and vape no higher then 11watts, which makes for almost a week on a charge of an 18650 on my rDNA 30.

It hasn't been ironed out yet. Evolv supposedly is shipping v3 DNA 40 boards late last week or this week that resolves the problems. If you have an issue with the board, VS will replace it. If they won't, Evolv will. Either way, you're covered.

Do you know how to tell? I ordered last week and got it monday. No problems yet.

That kayfun setup is so nice looking. Where did you get the parts/driptip?

Both reverse battery protection and temp protection are nice, but if the DNA30 had step down, I wouldn't consider the DNA40 at this juncture. Step down is really the must have feature IMHO.

Wait a min. You're in FL! They have shops all over FL. You could probably go pick one up at one of their shops.

I could, and don't think I hadn't thought about it, but I'm on the West coast and while they do have a lot of shops down here, they're all on the East coast. When I checked recently, the closest one, probably West Palm Beach, is about 3-1/2 hours away.

After reading your post, I checked again and saw a location I hadn't seen before in Oviedo, FL. (It's marked as "Now Open," so maybe it's new since the last time I looked.) It's about 20 minutes past Orlando, putting it a little over 2 hours from me. The Cyber Monday sale indeed seems to be only for Monday, so I'd have to get there Monday, not tomorrow or this weekend, which wouldn't be the best time for me to go. Plus they'd have to have some in stock, and agree to hold one for me.

All that said, if I find someone interested in having lunch or dinner with me in Orlando on Monday, I might do it. :) Especially since the Eleaf Lemo Drop I ordered should be here Friday. (I intend to give titanium a try too but I don't have it yet.)

Yeah, all good stuff said there. I think eventually the same tech will be applied to kanthal if it's possible. That wire is certainly better to work with but obviously they aren't there yet in terms of the tech.

You can only do what the physics of the materials you're working with will allow you to do based, as you observed, on the technology you have to work with. I think the temperature coefficient of resistance of Kanthal just isn't great enough to make it a likely candidate, definitely not now and very likely not in the foreseeable future.

Titanium's is, however, and a couple of people have posted here about Ti builds; if I recall correcty, I think it was Rossum that said he prefers both building with and using titanium to nickel. I'm trying to see if I can't commune with Evolv's presence and divine why they went with nickel instead of titanium, especially since I think it was Brandon himself that said that titanium does work. So far the only reason that's visited my presence is nickel's somewhat higher temperature coefficient of resistance. Maybe I should quit divining and just ask Evolv directly.
